Rogue and Gambit

Gambit arrived home that night only to see Rogue sitting in the lounge room.

"Where have you been? Or don't Ah want to know?" she teased.

"Rogue? How'd yo' get in here?"

"Atom manipulation. Fun way of getting through walls."

"Ahh."

Silence.

"It's good ta see yo'."

"You too."

More silence.

"What... what's the occasion?"

Rogue shrugged.

"Well, when we first met you used to visit me at night. You can't come to the mansion any more on pain of death," and Rogue winced, "so Ah thought Ah'd return the favour."

Gambit smiled and sat down next to her.

"Well, thanks."

Again with the silence.

"How... how is it at the mansion? Your boy - err, ex? Dem?"

"Well, Jono's mad at me. Not as mad as he was to begin with though. Dem... she's been in tears ever since."

Gambit looked down at the floor.

"Everyone seems tah be more willing tah blame you than me. Ah had an excuse, y'know, havin' recently absorbed Julie. But you weren't under any influence," Rogue sighed.

Gambit nodded slowly and Rogue reached over and took his hand.

"Remy... Ah wish the circumstances had been different. But Ah don't regret sleeping with you."

Gambit met her eyes.

"I agree," he said softly. "I never wanted to hurt Dem. But I... you..."

He sighed and Rogue chewed her lip.

"It's so awkward."

"It is."
