28 September 2003 - Calling The Father

AiMsTeR and Michelle

Desiree

Desiree stared at the phone and bit her bottom lip.

She hadn't spoken to him for months... not that he seemed interested in contacting her. He was the one that was going to keep the kid after all, you'd think he'd be checking up.

Or maybe he was just too busy. She knew Hanson were touring.

With a sigh, she picked up the phone and dialled.

Zac

Zac was busy packing for his trip to New York when he heard a noise. It took him a moment to realise it was his phone. He picked it up and answered.

"Hello?"

Desiree

"Ah... hi," Desiree smiled slightly, glad to be hearing the sound of his voice.

"Guess who?"

Zac

"Umm..." Zac then cheated and looked at the name on the screen. "Dez?"

Desiree

"Yep," Desiree replied softly.

"Umm... how's the tour?"

Zac

"Tour's been great. We're having a little break at the moment, but we're going back early, mid October," Zac replied. "What about you? How are... things?"

Desiree

"Umm, yeah," Desiree nodded.

"My aunt just about threw me out when she found out, but... you get that. She's helping. Morning sickness is killing me."

Zac

"Oh dang... I'm so sorry Dez. I didn't mean to cause you any problems. Is there anything I can do to help?" Zac asked.

Desiree

"Nah, she's being a bitch anyway," Desiree chuckled softly.

She curled her fingers through her fringe.

"But... maybe you could call me sometime? If you still have my number, that is."

She bit her lip.

Zac

"Oh, umm, yeah sure," Zac replied. "Sorry I haven't called you much. Been busy, but that's not really much of an excuse when you're carrying my child, huh?"

He paused.

"Hey... what happened with your boyfriend?"

Desiree

"What boyfriend?" Desiree chuckled.

"As soon as he found out, he was out the door like lightening. Actually, it was kinda over before that, but... yeah. Kinda gave him a reason to piss off."

Zac

"Aww man, I seem to be really screwing up your life, huh?" Zac replied. "I am so, so sorry."

Desiree

"Zac, you're not screwing up my life," Desiree shook her head insistently.

"If anything it was worse before you came along. At least I have some direction for now... and I have my Aunt looking after me. I should get pregnant more often," she joked.

Zac

Zac laughed.

"Well, it would seem you don't need a sperm bank when you have me," Zac grinned. "So, I mean, if you ever do..."

He chuckled.

Desiree

"I thought you had a girlfriend," Desiree raised an eyebrow.

"And I'm not exactly the type of person to get between relationships of people I like..."

Zac

"Actually... I'm dating someone else now, but that is a point," Zac replied. "Meh. I was just being faecious anyway."

Desiree

"Well, I hope you two make it," Desiree smiled.

"And... she's fine with the kid thing? She's not gonna kill me or anything?"

Zac

"Yeah I hope we make it too," Zac replied.

He paused, briefly wondering why that felt like a lie.

"She's fine with the kids thing. I got her pregnant too," he went on. "I seem to be making a habit of that..."

Desiree

Desiree hesitated.

"Oh," was all she could say.

Then she scratched her head.

"Well, it was cool talking to you. I'd better go. Talk to you sometime?"

Zac

"Okay, sure," Zac replied. "Good luck to you, Dez, and I'll call you again soon. Bye!"

He hung up.
