15 September 2003 - Blood of family

Joy and Tegan

Yuriko

Yuriko Oyama was walking down a street in tokyo, just purusing the vendors of the open-air market. "How much for this, Takeshi-san?" she asked.

"24," he replied. She paid the man, and continued walking down the street. WIth her enhanced senses, she thought she smelled somebody familiar, but when she didn't recognize anybody, she shook it off and continued walking.

Who is that? she wondered. I know I've smalled that scent before.

Logan and Kanika

Logan hefted Kanika onto his back as he bowed politely to the older woman who had just congratulated him on having such a well behaved and respectful child. "(Thank you, madam.)" Kanika giggled in his ear as he finally disentangled himself from the woman and walked on.

"Da...someone's here," Kanika piped up.

"There's lots of people here," Logan said easily as he put her back down on the ground.

"No! Someone who's blood." Kanika looked frustrated with him. "Family."

"Victory again?"

"A lady I haven't met before..."

Logan's head came up as well and he sniffed the air warily. His eyes narrowed. "Lady DeathStryke. I thought I'd killed you." He moved in front of Kanika protectively and the little girl peeped out from behind his legs, eyes wide.

"Da..."

"Quiet, darlin."

Yuriko

Yuriko bowed with respect.

"Grandfather," she said, and then she leant up to kiss him on each cheek.

"I barely remember our last meeting, it is like a dream. But I remember that my mother told me of you. Though you left before she was born. Her mother told many stories of my grandfather, Logan. It is good to see you, Grandfather," Yuriko said smiling. "But why you call me Deathstryke?"

Logan and Kanika

Logan eyed her, moving backwards slightly. "When I say, we run, kid," he murmured out of the side of his mouth to Kanika. She stomped a foot crossly.

"Why don't you listen to me?"

"I called you Death Stryke, cos that's the name you were going by the last time I saw you. When I thought I killed you. How do you know who I am? I'm no one's grandfather."

Kanika stomped her foot again. "You don't *listen* to me! DA!"

Yuriko

Yuriko cocked her head to the side. "But I have photograph," she said. She opened her purse and took out an old, faded picture from the 1940s, of Logan, with a young, beautiful Japanese woman.

"Stryker. He did something to me. I couldn't control my thoughts or actions. Mind control, with some potion on the back of my neck. He used it on me for years, making me do as he pleased. So if we fought, I am sorry. The last thing I remember was waking up somewhere. A teleporter removed a mass of adamantium from my abdomen, and I was apparently unconscious for a few days." she sighed, and then sniffed the air.

"You are family," she said to the little girl. "You smell like my mother."

Logan and Kanika

Logan stared at the photograph, and that silvery laughter rippled through his mind again. "I don't...remember. And I should."

"I told you! But would you listen to me?! No! Why would you do dat?!" Kanika was quite cross with her father.

Yuriko

Yuriko looked at the little girl. "Who are you?" she asked, confused.

Logan and Kanika

"My name is Kanika. It means Black in Egyptian," Kanika said. Logan was still staring at the photograph, willing himself to remember. "And you're family." The traffic of humanity eddied around them, like water around rocks in a stream.

Yuriko

"I am Yuriko Oyama. If Grandfather is your father, than you are my aunt, the sister of my mother," Yuriko said, smiling.

"You are so very beautiful," she said.

Logan and Kanika

"Dammit, I don't remember," Logan whispered. "And I know that I should. GODDAMMIT!" He snarled. Kanika patted his hand comfortingly.

"Thank you," she said to Yuriko. "You're very pretty too. I like your dress, it's pretty."

"Tell me everything you know, please," Logan said as he looked up.

Yuriko

They started walkiong again, and eventually settled down in a little outdoor cafe.

"Well, I know that my Grandmother fell in love with you, and American man. A GI during WWII. You moved to Japan, and married her, but then something happened. You had a son, and then a daughter, but I think you left before your daughter was born? The daughter was my mother. She married a scientist. He teamed up with Stryker, and developedthe adamantium grafting techniques. My own father, your son-in-law, sold us out." Yuriko sighed, tears still coming to her eyes at the memory.

Logan and Kanika

"A bad man, bad bad man," Kankika said, kicking her legs. "Can we kill them?"

"I think Stryker's dead...but men like that have ways of surviving," Logan said thoughtfully. "Is...this man who married my daughter still living?"

"We'll pay him a visit, and we'll have fun, rawr!"

Yuriko

"My father is in Japanese prison," Yuriko replied. "He got caught trying to clone me, by the government. Not good."

Kanika and Logan

Kanika giggled as she caught her father's mood. "Not a prob, darlin'."

"What she said." Logan ruffled his daughter's hair, and she purred. "What's the bastard's name?"

Yuriko

"Eito Oyama," she replied. "I would invite you back to my place, but I'm trying to avoid it. This man, Magneto, has convinced me to work for him, and I don't like him much. And he's working for some crazy-lady named Glory. Don't like her either. And some man named Creed keeps showing up, and he gives me the chills. I have my own home, though. The family home, it's out in the country. It's where I was born, where my mother was born, where you got married," Yuriko said, her eyes smiling, at the memory of her family's rice-farm.

Logan and Kanika

"Magneto...was wondering where he go to," Logan breathed, eyes hardening. Kanika let out a fightened squeak at Glory's name and hid her face in Logan's jacket.

"Bad lady!"

"Yeah...maybe we better leave Japan. Promised Nyx I'd keep you safe, and I can't do that if the very one I'm supposed to protect you from is here. I'm no match for a hellgod."

"But Viccy!"

"Sabretooth'll take care of Viccy, I'm sure, darlin'." Logan hugged her. "But I would like to see the farm, before I go."

Yuriko

"WE can stay there for a few days. Maybe you can remember," Yuriko suggested, hopefully. "I want to get away from the people who convinced me to work for them. The crazy Glory-lady is gone, though. Apparently she went to some dimension where a day is a thousand years, I just don't get it all." she said, as she tipped her tea, and ate some sticky rice with chopsticks.

Logan and Kanika

"Sounds good, sounds good..." Logan nodded slightly. "Well, we kinda set off on the wrong foot. I'm Logan, and this is Kanika, my daughter. I'm glad that I could finally meet someone from the past I don't remember...Nyx was looking to work on that, but then Glory arrived, and that kinda put paid to that idea..."

"Bad lady! HIISSSSS!" Kanika bared her fangs.

"Yeah, darling. A bad, bad lady. No hissing in public now."
