13 September 2003 - Morning After

Nessa

Faith and Xander

Faith opened one eye then immediately regretted it. The sun that was shining in through the window was piercing through her brain. How much had she drank last night?

She looked over next to her and saw Xander.

Damn.

She shook him slightly.

"Xander?"

"Myeahh?" Xander rolled over and opened his eyes and Faith watched as the realisation dawned on his face too.

"Morning," she said sheepishly.

"Hi."

"So..." Faith trailed off while sitting up, grabbing the sheet and pulling it around her. She reached for her shirt and put it on, then retrieved her pants from the side of the bed, and put them on under the covers. She stood up and got out of the bed, arms wrapped around her body.

"Yeah."

"We... uh..."

"I figured," Xander replied. "From the whole lack of clothing thing, I figured."

"Sorry," Faith said softly.

"Oh no, I mean... it was good. At least the bits I can remember were good," Xander rushed.

"I... I should go." She bent down and found her shoes and shoved them quickly onto her feet. She was about to run out the door when Xander patted her shoulder. She turned around to see him standing next to her with the blanket round his waist, and he gently caressed her face.

"Look, that was... probably a mistake," he began. "But... maybe not. I know that you are really confused right now, about what you want, and..."

"Xander... I just... I just don't know how much I can give you right now." She looked away from him, then realised that sounded really stupid. "I mean, apart from what I gave you last night," she said, a smile spreading across her face.

Xander chuckled. "Yeah, look, I don't want to rush you."

"And it's not that I don't like you... it's... there's this thing with Zac, and I know we're broken up and all, it's... you know what, I... I just, if we... I'd need to take it slow. You know, slower than we've already taken it. Damn. Um, look, I think we both need time to chill out and all, so I'm gonna go home and think this through and you... you can, I don't know. I've gotta go."

Faith turned and left before Xander could reply.
