7 September 2003 - Starting a band

Tegan

Sergei, Jono and Octavian

Sergei sat on Jonothon's bed and fingered the strings of his guitar. "So I...this is A, da?"

Yeah. Now you just have to move your fingers a little...and that's G.

"Da, good." Sergei rippled off a few more chords. "Next?"

Next we try you playing 'Smoke on the water'. Every guitar player know how to play 'Smoke on the water'. Think it's a requirement or something. Jonothon moved onto the bed and showed Sergei the succession of chords. Sergei watched him seriously. Angelo turned up and watched them both for a few moments.

"I can play drums," the grey skinned mutant offered. Jonothon gave his friend an interested look.

Oh, can you now?

"Si." Angelo grinned as Sergei also gave him a considering look. "Haven't for a while...but I can play."

"That sounds...good." Sergei turned to Jonothon. "I can sing," he said in a voice totally devoid of any trace of his usual thick accent. Both of the other mutants gave him a startled look.

Why don't ya ever...

"Because everyone know Russians are stupid, da, tovarisch? And it's easier to fufill the stereotype." Sergei offered them a twisted grin.

So, that means...

"We got a singer, we got a drummer, got two guitars...we're set." Angelo smiled.

Might even be able to swing Tav into playing keyboard. He plays violin too, so I wonder...

"Maybe we can get him for singing too? I've heard him, he's not bad," Sergei offered.

"And Jono can write our songs." Angelo bounced slightly on the bed. "We need a name."

Displaced. Jonothon offered. They looked at him in bemusement. Well, think about it...none of us are here because we want to be. We're here because we have no other place to go. We're displaced.

"Very good point. Ok, I think we ask Tav, and we get this show on the road!" Angelo beamed. The three friends looked at each other, and laughed. This, even if it never went anywhere, as it probably wouldn't, was going to be fun.

"We'll havta look up some songs to cover."

Yeah. Jonothon got up. Let's go find my countryman and approach him about this.

"Very good idea, tovarisch."

"Si!" The three went to find Octavian, another guitar, a drumkit and various things. They cornered Spike and begged extravgently after getting Octavian to join them. He agreed to talk to Scott and Jean. Somehow or other, all the equipment they needed was somewhere on campus and soon, 'Displaced' was set up for its first rehearsal.
