22 August 2003 - In league with the enemy

Michelle

Isaac, Miette and the Eye

Miette was rather delighted with herself. She had a great house, servants to do her bidding and, of course, Isaac lock in a cage in her room. Life couldn't get much better.

She sauntered back into her room with one of the servants with Isaac's next meal.

"Who's there?" Isaac asked, hearing people enter and smelling the food.

Miette flopped on her bed and rolled over so that she was facing him. The servant said nothing, only opened the cage, pushed his food in and then quickly closed the door.

"I know you're there!"

Miette dismissed the servant with a flick of her wrist.

"No one's going to talk to you but me," she said when the servant left. "They wouldn't dare. I've forbidden them, and they're too afraid of me to do otherwise."

"Afraid of you? Miette... what - you are not the girl I used to know."

"And good riddence to her too. Such a boring little goody-two-shoes."

"There was nothing -"

"Shush! There's someone I want you to meet."

Isaac heard the door open and someone entered the room.

"Well, well," said a dauntingly familiar voice, "look who we have here."

"Eye?"

"And he does remember me too," the Eye smirked.

"How can anyone forget?" Miette asked.

"True."

"What have you done to her?" Isaac yelled. "What did you do?"

"Me? I have done nothing," the Eye replied. "Miette joined me all on her own."

"Liar!"

Miette giggled.

"Isn't he sweet? I wish I didn't have to blind him, he would have made the best protector. Not that I need one, but y'know what I mean."

"Ahh yes... blind..." there was no mistaking the satisfaction in his voice. "I can't hurt you because of that accursed shield, and now, you can't hurt me. What could be more pitiful than a blind telekinetic?"

"How about a collared telepath?" Isaac spat.

"Now, now, boys, boys," Miette giggled. "No need to fight."

"You're in no position to mock me, boy," the Eye growled. "You're trapped in a cage, blind and powerless. I, however, am free, powerful and... well let's just say I have an agenda."

It took a moment for this to sink in and Isaac practically flung himself at the bars.

"Bastard!" he yelled.

The Eye laughed.

"Careful, Ikey," Miette commented. "I wouldn't want you to hurt yourself. I haven't got any healers on hand and I am so looking forward to -"

"Almost trod on your food there, Isaac," the Eye taunted.

"Don't you dare hurt them! I swear, I will hunt you down and kill you if you try."

"Words, Isaac. That's all you have. Only words. I am not afraid of your threats."

"Words can do more damage than -"

"And you should know, right? You're a musician? Sing a little ditty, boy, that's all you have now."

"I should never have agreed to let you see him," Miette commented. "Now he's going to be all wound up for the rest of the day. And where's the fun in that for me?"

The Eye gave her a long, dark look. Then a crooked smile crossed his lips.

"I will depart now, Miette. I have places to go, things to do, people to see," those last words had a deliberate edge to them. "It's going to be a busy day."

"Have fun!"

The Eye said nothing as he left.

"You do anything to hurt them and I swear -" Isaac slumped on the floor as he heard the door click.

Miette turned herself into light, floated into the cage and changed back again.

"Aww, don't get upset, sweetie," she replied, curling up next to him. "Now we can be together all the time. No more stupid long distance relationship."

Isaac moved away from her.

"You are not the Miette I fell in love with."

"No. I'm someone better."

"No, you're not. You're a stranger to me now, Miette. I don't know you any more."

Miette sighed, and then picked up Isaac's food.

"Eat," she said. "You need food."

"If... if he does anything to them..." Isaac went on, "I could never..."

"I told you to eat," Miette said in annoyance.

"Why? You planning on drugging me?"

"Well, now that's just unfair."

"Is it? You've blinded me. You're in league with the Eye. And that's just the stuff I know about."

"Ike..." Miette complained, moving closer to him and putting her hand on his chest, "Ike, I -"

"Just leave me alone!"

On 'alone', Miette was flung backwards. She didn't manage to change to light in time and hit the bars.

"Ow! That hurt!"

She stared at Isaac while he struggled not to ask her if she was okay.

"How'd you do that?"

Isaac just glowered in the direction her voice was coming from. There was silence.

"Just go away, Miette."

"Fine."

Miette left and Isaac put his hands up to his face, puzzling. He knew telepathic energy when he used it. And he had used it! But that was... that was impossible! How can a telekinetic do anything telekinetically if they can't see? A blind telekinetic was unheard of. Completely unheard of.

So, how did he do it?
