10 August 2003 - Leaving Beloved

Joy and Tegan

Clark, Jean and Dawn

Clark had gone nuclear when he found out about Kansas. He's gone straight up into the air, punching a hole into the wall of the mountain to get out. He's flown around Kansas looking for survivors, and found almost none. Those he found, he'd taken to the hospital immediately. Except for two. They were young, maybe four and six. A brother and a sister. His senses told him they were aliens, but they were also mutants. He picked the pair up and flew them back to the Mansion. He stopped out front, and brought them inside. He searched out for the teachers.

"Um, this is Mary Anne and Tommy. They're aliens, Dathrians I think. They somehow survived being in Grandville, but think they've mutated. The best I can get from either of them, is that their parents were killed, and they were left alone. Can you take care of them?" Clark asked. Jean nodded.

"Of course, Clark. Now, we'll take good care of them, but you need to go see Dawn. She's very worried about you." Clark nodded grimly. He went into her room, to see see her curled up in a ball on her bed. He knew her well enough to know that she must feel awful. She only curled up in the fetal position when things were too much for her to handle.

"Hey baby," Clark said, softly. Dawn sprung up from her bed.

"Clark!" she cried, running to him, and hugging him tightly. The two held each other for what felt like forever.

"Dawn, this kills me to say, but I need to go away for a while. I need to figure out who I am." Dawn nodded.

"I. . . I figured that. You've gone through a horrible loss, and trust me, I know about loss. No matter what anybody says, nobody really knows how you feel, although I think I may. Remember, my whole world disappeared not too long ago," she said gently.

"I know baby, and I know you can probably identify with my pain better than anybody. It's just," he sighed, asn sat down on her bed. "Well, I have all this power growing inside of me. I'm indestructible. I could have stopped that bombn, why didn't I?"

"Clark, you don't know for sure that you could have stopped it. It might have killed you. At least you surived. I know it feels horrible, knowing that all your loved ones are gone, and you survived. But remember, I love you, and I'm here."

"I know. And I will be back, I promise. But I don't know how long I'll be gone. I found this," he showed her the green crystal. "It's from my parents, and it's pulling my up north, I can feel it. I think it can give me answers, but I don't know how long it will take. I want you to be free to open your heart to others, and not feel tied down while I'm gone, can you promise me that?" Dawm looked shocked.

"There will never be any other man for me, Clarkk, I'm certain of that. I doubt I will feel any atraction to anybody else, as long as I know you're alive. I love you more than life itself."

"I love you too. BUt if someboidy comes along, know that I don't want you to fell guilty, but I hope that nothing comes to last, because I WILL be back for you."

"Promise?"

"Promise," he said firmly, kissing her before taking off. Dawn sat alone for a while, just thinking, and crying.

Hank

Hank stared at the small children who were clutching at each other and crying. He crouched down beside them, trying to minimise his size. "Hello, my name is Dr. McCoy. What are your names?"

Jean

Mary Anne looked up, frightened by the large furry blue man. She held her little brother in her arms as he flew the table into him, trying to knock him over. Hank stood firm, and the children shrank back, huddling together in the corner, silently.

"Um, Hank," Jean said, gently, "Maybe somebody who doesn't look quite so. . furry, should try and talk to them." Hank nodded. Jean approached them slowly.

"Hi children," Jean said, softly. "Clark said you were Mary Anee, and you were Tommy?" she asked. She saw Mary Anne nod almost imperceptively.

"My name is Dr. Summers, but you can call me Jeanie. If you'll let me, I'd like to take you downstairs. It's very safe. I can clean you up and fix up your boo-boos, and then you can play, or you can take a nap. Whatever you want." They didn't say a word, but they slowly got up, and allowed Jean to lead them into the imfirmary. SHe gestured for Hank and Scott to follow, and they did, standing in the corner, while Jean checked them over.

Hank

"I never have done well with children," Hank said with slight embarrassment. "Even before I activated my X-gene."
