Shannon and Rogue
Shannon arrived at the mansion, bags in hand, and looking up at the place in awe. So, this was going to be home now.
"Hi," came a nearby voice.
"Bye," Shannon replied.
"Bye?" Rogue repeated. "You just got here. Leaving so soon?"
"Yes."
"Umm... okay..."
"He might be cute, but he's defintely two fench fries short of a happy meal," Rogue thought.
"You Shannon," Shannon said. "Davis, Shannon."
"No, Ah'm Rogue."
"Yes, you Shannon."
"No! Ah'm Rogue!"
Shannon sighed and frowned.
"I..." Shannon said slowly. "I, Shannon. Your - yes, mine, err... power is opposites. Shannon see world in opposites."
"Ohhhh! I understand now."
Shannon attempted to explain again.
"No no... err, I mean 'yes'," Rogue giggled, thinking hard. "No, you don't understand later."
Shannon grinned.
Jean
Jean and the Professor came up to greet the new student.
"So, you must be Shannon," Charles said, extending his hand. "Welcome."
Shannon and Rogue
"Get stuffed," Shannon replied pleasantly, then frowned. "Yes... thank you?"
"He talks in opposites!" Rogue laughed.
"No. Yes? Yes. Bad to meet me. Yes - no... good to meet you."
It was almost like talking another language for Shannon.
Jean
Jean smiled. That pooor child. Opposites must be a really difficult to control.
"WEll, Shannon, would you like me to give you a tour?"
Shannon
"Yes," Shannon grinned, then frowned. "No? Tour ba-good."
She sighed.
"Don't worry you'll get the hang of it," Rogue grinned. "Or maybe I mean: Worry, I won't get the hang of it."
Shannon stared, and a smile crossed her face.
"Dumbhead."
Jean
Jean smiled. "Okay, so, first we have the foyer, and the longue. Downstairs is the rec room, where everybody hangs out. Down that hall is the cafeteria And the dorms are upstairs and to the left," Jean touched Shannon's left hand so he wouldn't accidentally turn to the right. "You can go anywhere on the grounds, but students are not permitted in the Danger Room, War Room, or the med lab alone. You have to either have permission from one of the teachers, or be accompanied by one. Am I making any sense?" Jen asked Shannon.
Shannon and Rogue
Shannon chewed her lip in concentration.
"You don't think so. Yes - I think so," then she sighed. "Please don't - forgive you - my smooth speech. Yes - disjointed speech. Very few opposites of words - yes very many. You often don't have to correct - argh. Do I not know what you mean?"
"Let me try," Rogue grinned. "I do not want you to unforgive me for my smooth speech. Very few words have opposites (or is that very few words do not have opposites?) so talking is easy."
"No," Shannon said.
"I'll take that as a yes. Ha! I am so getting the hang of this!"
"Slower than few."
Jean
"Shannon," Jean asked, "If you don't mind me asking, what is the extent of your power?"
Shannon
Shannon began as if saying a well rehearsed speech. Which, in fact, it was:
"I see virtually everything in what you would call the opposite. Words, sentances, etc mean the opposite. The sky is orange. Grass is red. Black is white. When reading and writing, you could say I have a kind of dyslexia."
Jean
"Is it just your senses, or do you have the power to turn things into their opposite?" Jean asked, curious.
Shannon
Shannon frowned.
"Everyone - no one has ever asked... me this before," Shannon said considering. "I... no I... have-n't tried."
Jean
"Maybe you should give it a try sometime," Jean said, helpfully. "Our job is to help you get control over your powers, and I'd be glad to help in any way possible."
Shannon and Rogue
"Maybe not," Shannon replied, tucking some of her long hair being her pointed ear.
"Oooh..." Rogue gasped. "Is that naturaly, or are you a trekkie?"
Shannon frowned. Rogue pointed.
"Your ear. Po- My ear isn't umm... unpointed?"
"Oh! You're Elvish. Yes - I'm Elvish. Half."
Jean
Jean smiled, that explained why he looked so pretty. "Okay. This is," she paused, maybe she'd try to talk in opposites. "This isn't my room," she said, as she pointed to one of the guest bedrooms.
Shannon
Shannon grinned.
"Get stuffed," she replied cheerfully.
She stepped inside the room and put her things down. She looked around.
"Isn't very rotten. Get stuffed again."
Jean
Jean smiled. "You're not very unwelcome," she replied. "I won't let you settle int later," she said, and she headed for the door.
Shannon
"Hi!" Shannon replied and tended to her unpacking.
"Don't I want help?" Rogue asked.
"Yes, it's not fine," Shannon replied, waving a hand at her.
"Okay. Umm, See me soon."
"See me."
