18 July 2003 - Photography in P3

Ewen

Ewan ran his hand through his red hair as he showed his ID to the guy on the door to the club and stepped inside. He wended his way to the bar, snapping a few shots on the way. He leaned on the bar and smiled charmingly at the girl on the bar. "'Allo, me name's Ewan MacCloud. I'm a freelance photographer, and I'm doing a photographic series on nightclubs in America. Do ye think yer boss would mind if I used their club in it?"

Faith

Faith smiled back at him, politely, in her mind processing what he said with his heavy accent.

"I'm Faith. I don't think Piper would mind, she'll be back soon. Can I get you a drink or anything?"

Ewen

"Sure, and I'd be thanking ye kindly." Ewan looked around. "I'll have a Scotch on the rocks. Is it always this busy?"

Faith

Faith twisted the bottle in her hands. She flipped up a glass with ice in it in a fluid motion and then poured the scotch.

"$4. Um... nah, sometimes it gets busier, depending on who the headlining act is."

Ewen

"Och, really naw?" Ewan handed over $4. "What type of acts do ye get in here? Hanson? I know they live in Tulsa. As does most of tha world, I would b' thinkin'," he said thoughtfully before sipping at his drink.

Faith

Faith nodded and took the money.

"We've had Hanson in here once, and Christina Aguilera, Shakira, local bands, anything. We try and get a lot of local talent in here."

Ewen

"It's a dying trade, the local band. Ye wouldn't believe how few ones there are with even a skerrick of talent these days. Oh my aching ears!" Ewan grinned to show he didn't really mean it. "Famous people always sell better thoug'. Pictures of them, I mean."

Faith

Faith nodded.

"We have a few regular bands that come in, but we try and get the headliners in as often as we can."

Ewen

"Weel naw, ye'd want to, wouldn't you? Having the headliners in means the punters come in because everyone loves having the famous to stare at. It would have to be annoying, after aweel. Makes me glad to be a photographer. I can joost look at it from tha outside, as it were." Ewan sipped from his drink.

Faith

Faith served a few more customers.

"Oh I don't know... I mean, it might get bad for these people," she indicated to the people on the dance floor. "Because if we're at our limit, then it does get a bit squashy, but for me, it's alright, coz I'm behind the bar, away from that."

Ewen

"Aye, I can see where tha could be a bonus." Ewan fiddled with the camera around his neck. "Do ye mind if I take a few photos? Ye know what they say, sex sells, and yer a very pretty lass. I know I could sell any photos with you in them." He smiled at her.

Faith

Faith smiled.

"Yeah sure, if you want."

Ewen

"Thanks!" Ewan grinned disarmingly, raised his camera and started snapping photos of Faith working. He got a few good shots of her serving drinks and then he started working around the edges of the club. Managing to stay unattached from any girls, he kept taking photos and wound back up at the bar. He rummaged in his pocket for a business card and slid it across at Faith. "Here. When tha photos are devolped, I'll bring 'em by so ye can take a gander at 'em before I sell 'em."

Faith

Faith took his card and tucked it into the top of her pants.

"Thanks, I guess I'll hear from you then?"

Ewen

"Fer sure! Be seeing you around, angel." Ewan mock-saluted her then made his way out of the club, his work for the night done.

Faith

Faith gave a wave then started to work again, wondering why she'd agreed to have photos taken of her.
