6 July 2003 - Faltering

Faith

Faith found her phone and dialled in Mouse's number and waited impatiently for her to pick up. It was time to pay a visit to her little mouse friend... and maybe even taunt her to the point of Mouse wanting to kill her.

After all, no one else had been able to.

"Hello, Mousey?"

Mouse

Mouse scrambled to pick up her mobile and clicked it on as she held it to her ear. She heard Fath's voice. "Hey, Faith. How are you going? You alright? Cos, Zac kinda said some stuff, so I was kinda worried..."

Faith

Faith grinned.

"Yeah, five by five. Hey, you mind if I drop in? I haven't seen you for a while, and so, yeah."

She played with her knife.

Mouse

"Yeah, sure. Everyone's out right now at the album thingie, so I'd be really glad of some company. It's too quiet." Mouse shivered and looked around at the house, feeling the emptiness press in around her. She wasn't up to going out yet. "You haven't seen me cos I kinda got kidnapped, sold and turned into a labrat for the American goverment. Painful experience, to say the very least."

Faith

"Aww, poor Mousey. So you're at the Hansons... well, I'm pretty much here, so..." Faith rolled her eyes as she spotted the Hanson house. She hung up and walked to the front door and knocked.

Mouse

Mouse twitched, then hurried towards the door. Fafnir stalked along beside her, and Bets looked up lazily from where she was snoozing in a patch of sun. After checking it was Faith, Mouse opened the door. "Come in, Faith." She stepped back to let Faith in, eyes darting nervously around the neighbourhood.

Faith

Faith walked in, her eyes glinting with evil delight.

"So... we alone here, Mousey?"

Mouse

"Yeah...well, Fafnir and Bets are here. You haven't met Bets. I kinda...adopted her. Her master helped me out of the lab, then he suicided. We took Bets with us." Mouse's eyes were sad. "He was too honourable to cope with what had happened when he was there. The experiments on me, and this other girl."

Faith

"Hmmm, ok then."

Faith pulled a gun from her back pocket and tossed it to Mouse.

"Right, I'm giving you one shot to shoot me, this will be your only chance."

Mouse

Mouse caught it and looked at Faith with confusion. "Faith?"

She smells off. Fafnir announced and his hackles rose. I don't like to threaten a hunting partner, but I really think it would be best if she left now.

Bets stirred and looked over. She stood up and watched the situation carefully. Can we kill her?

"There will be no killing," Mouse said firmly, looking from Bets to Faith. "Are you alright, Faith?" Her empathy was starting to inform her that there was something very wrong here.

Faith

"Yep, never been better." Faith smiled evilly.

"So go on... take a shot... no one else is willing to kill me, maybe you'll have enough guts."

Mouse

"I don't want to kill you. Why should I kill you? I don't want to.." Mouse swayed on her feet, going white as Faith's emotions pounded her.

Bets and Fafnir watched the confrontation warily. Bets's muscles bunched together and Fafnir growled at her to stand down and wait for Mouse's signal. Or for Faith to make a wrong move.

Faith

Faith raised an eyebrow.

"Hmm, how can I change that?"

She pulled her knife out and brandished it towards Mouse. "Well, I'm gonna kill you and all my little 'friends' slowly and inventively, so I'm giving you one chance to shoot me. How do you think I should kill Zac? I was thinking... cut into pieces."

Mouse

Mouse's eyes widened. "Faith...I'm not going to kill you. There's only one person who's death I want...well, actually there's a lot more people now. The scientests at Quantico, and the Spider. I don;t want to kill you."

Fafnir and Bets prowled slowly to Mouse's side and stood either side of her, lips upraised to show gleaming white fangs. Back off, Slayer. Fafnir snarled. We don't want to have to hurt you.

Faith

Faith grinned down at the wolves.

"Hmm, too bad they don't have opposable thumbs, they'd shoot me, I know it."

She tsked at Mouse. "Come on, Mousey. Just one shot... tell you what, how about I go join the Spider's side? Or I lock you up and do experiments on you too? Could be a hoot and a half. Make you cry, make you bleed?"

Mouse

Mouse went into sheer unthinking screaming panic. The gun swung up and she squeezed the trigger, feeling the sincerity in Faith's mind and willing to do anything to stop it from happening again.

Fafnir and Bets howled.

Faith

Faith giggled as Mouse shot for her arm. She tsked again and grabbed the gun from Mouse's hands.

"You didn't shoot to kill, we're gonna have to up the stakes a little."

Mouse

"They're blanks, aren't they?" Mouse said slowly, gazing at Faith. "You know you aren't really going to die..."

The hell she isn't! Bets snarled, and taking a threatening step in Faith's direction. Both canines were growling ferally, ruffs raised and fur standing one end, making their already impreesive bulk bigger and scarier.

"And I don't need a gun to kill you. I have two weapons here. And then there's me, Faithy sweetie." She tilted her head slightly. "I *will* hurt you if you try to make me an experiment again. Previous friendship not withstanding. But this isn't you...I can feel it."

Faith

Faith let out a laugh.

"Honey, this is me. Why does everyone keep telling me that? See, I have a little problem, I need to get Zac into the game. Nothing against you personally, Mouse, see if I kill you, would that help to annoy Zac? Or would it just be really funny? Zac won't kill me without provocation... I', sure of that... so i just need to give him a little nudge."

Mouse

"Who's the empath here, Faithy? Me, I would wager to guess. And I know you,. Someone's been fiddling with you, making the dark side come out to play." Mouse stepped backwards carefully, brown eyes fixed on Faith's smiling face. "You wouldn't have a chance to get Zac into the game if you killed me. You'd never leave the room."

Damn straight she wouldn't leave the room. Fafnir growled.

Faith

Faith giggled.

"Hmmm, then how could I get Zac into the game? You have any ideas? Coz I am itching to kill that boy. Make him suffer."

She flipped the knife into her back pocket.

"Well, I'll be sure to thank the person who's let me out to play. Having a conscious is pesky."

Mouse

"I don't know. Faith, I think you should go." Mouse kept her gaze steady. "When you come out of this, you're going to regret what you do now. You know it. And sooner or later, this will fade and you'll care again."

Faith

Faith kissed the top of Mouse's head. "Stick around."

She started to leave and then turned around again. "I won't regret this... coz the person who would cause me too... she doesn't live her now. See ya round, Mouse. Oh... and regards to Zac."

She left.

Mouse

Mouse shivered and wrapped her arms around herself, then ran to the door and locked it. She went around and made sure everything was locked up tight, knowing if Faith really wanted to get it, it wouldn't stop her. Sobs of terror hitched her breath into jagged gasps and Fafnir and Bets nuzzled her hands soothingly. She got into bed and drew the covers up over her head. They crawled in beside her, on gaurd for the slightest noise.

Faith

Faith giggled as she headed out to find Zada's address. She grinned evilly as she thought of Zac.

Yep, his time was coming.
