Gwen
Gwen stepped into Professor Xavier's office. She was wondering what he wanted to see her about, but figured it was just about Kate.
"Professor?"
"Ah, Gwen, please, have a seat."
"To keep?" Gwen joked. She sat down in front of his desk.
Xavier smiled at her. "As you know, you've gained a handle on your powers quite well."
Gwen blinked. Surely this didn't mean...
"I feel that it's time we relinquished our hold on you and sent you back into your life."
"Oh. Do I... now?"
"You may stay on a few more days, if you wish, but I think it would be best for you to leave as soon as possible."
Gwen nodded. "Well, that's what I signed up for, control over powers. And I have that now so... I'll be going as soon as I've got everything together. Thank you." She reached out one glove encased arm to shake his hand, and he gestured to take the glove off. She did, and shook his hand, smiling at the new feeling. She wasn't wearing LISA either.
"You've done well."
"Thank you for everything." Gwen smiled again, looking at her hand as though she'd never seen it before. "I have a question... how long have I been able to touch other people without hurting them?"
Xavier smiled back. "A few days now. But I thought it was best to be cautious."
"So I've been wearing LISA and my gloves needlessly?"
"You could say that, yes. But it would be best to keep them on hand."
Gwen nodded. "I guess I'll be going soon. Thank you again."
She turned and left, still marvelling at her control. Then a thought hit her.
Mordred.
How could she leave him? And she had to tell him now.
Gwen went searching for Mordred and eventually found him. She watched him silently before heading over and resting a bare hand on his face.
"Hi," she whispered.
MOrdred
"'Ello, love." Mordred smiled at her, took her hand and kissed it. "How's ya day been?" He caught a flicker of the thoughts running through her head and he frowned. "What's wrong?"
Gwen
"I just went and saw the Professor... he's relinquished hold on me. I'm... I'm free to go. See, no gloves, no LISA. Although, I'm gonna put it on again soon just in case."
Gwen sat down next to him.
"So I'm going to have to leave... he's allowed me to stay on a few more days to say goodbye and stuff..."
Mordred
Mordred blinked. All he could feel was pain. "So...are we over?" He asked hoarsely. "Does this end wneh you walk away, or do we keep this?" He hoped to god she said she wanted to keep this.
Gwen
Gwen messed his hair.
"You're an idiot, you know that?"
She kissed him. "I love you, I'm not going to end this. Unless you want to. But when I leave... nothing changes."
Mordred
"I may be an idiot, but I'm your idiot," Mordred laughed as he pulled her into his lap. "Bloody hell, but you scared me for a minute. I don't want to end this, at all. Love you, beautiful."
Gwen
"You are my idiot. Don't forget that, even when I'm gone. I'll stay for the rest of the month. So, like a day. But it won't be too bad... coz you can port to see me and stuff."
Gwen kissed Mordred again and wrapped her arms around his neck.
"I love you."
Mordred
"Teleportation would have to be the neatest power ever," Mordred said, then he looked distinctedly worried. "I'm being corrupted. I used teen American slang. I called something 'neat'. Dear god."
Gwen
"Oh, Mordred's getting shirty," Gwen sang.
She kissed him again gently.
"Well... I'm gonna do a round and say bye soon, coz I wanna leave by tomorrow night. If you wanna take me home you could stay the night?"
Mordred
"'M not shirty, just...very, very worried," Mordred corrected. "And I adore falling asleep holding you, so going home and staying the night is a yes. A bloody hell yeah, in fact."
Gwen
"Shirttttty." Gwen smiled and kissed Mordred's noise.
"Good, well, you know you're always welcome to come stay, Vort and Spike too, if they feel like a night away."
Mordred
"I probably will as often as I can. Spike'll probably jump at the chance, but whether Vort can be dragged from his painting is another matter." Mordred smiled back. "And I am not shirty."
Gwen
"Oh you're shirty, and I think I kinda like it."
Gwen bit her lip and wrapped her finger around some strands of her hair.
"Good, I expect to see you a lot. Although, I don't know how often I'll be home, you know, with all the hot dates I'll be having. Not. Although, hopefully the work is going to come flooding in once word gets out that I'm back."
Mordred
"Will you need a partner? God knows I don't have any other job prospects." The edge of something bitter showed in his eyes for a moment, then disappeared. "Or else I can be a mechanic. Or there's always grifting off Nyx."
Gwen
Gwen kissed Mordred's head. "Most of the time I work solo, but there are times when I'll need a partner."
Mordred
"Fantastic, oh my love." Mordred smiled at her. "As long as you stay safe, or god help me, there'll be hell to pay. Love you, beautiful."
Gwen
Gwen smiled at him.
"Hey, you know me. Always safe... lifetime of practice."
She kissed him again. "I love you too... but hey, this won't be so bad... I can visit you and you can visit me... it'll work out."
Mordred
"We'll make it work," Mordred said firmly. "You're too important to me to let you go. You're stuck with me." He gave her a roguish grin. "And I like the way you think. All...sneaky."
Gwen
"Good, coz if you let me go, I will come back and electric shock you," Gwen joked. "Hmm, sneakiness is fun. So... on technically our last day together, what would you like to do?"
Mordred
"Don't know. No school work, that's for bloody sure. As long as I'm with you, I couldn't care less." Mordred kissed her neck. "I love being with you. You make my world shine."
Gwen
Gwen smiled and kissed the top of his head. She gave him a little hug then stood up off his lap.
"Yeps, come on. We're going for a walk. It's occurred to me that I've never seen the full expanse of this place."
Mordred
"Me neither, really," Mordred said thoughtfully as he stood. "It's just bloody huge. And there's so many people in it..."
Gwen
"Well, it's about time we both did..."
Gwen took his hand and led him outside.
Nyx and Vulpe
They wandered the halls. Nyx popped out from behind a door and smiled at them.
"Gwen, sweetie, heard from wheels. Y'all allowed out now? That's cool, but make sure your boi helps you come visit occasionally." She turned her head back round. "Be right there."
"Mordalo, gattia. Sui secondi pensieri, baci il mio asino," Vulpe said snippily.
"Oh, you are so begging for a smack."
"Try it, gattia." Vulpe grinned. "You still won't let me call Mouse about Lance. I'm annoyed. So, mordalo."
Gwen
Gwen smiled. "Thanks Nyx, and I'll definitely be in to visit as often as I can. You should come visit me too."
Gwen leant against Mordred. "It's gonna be weird, not ebing surrounded by people all day everyday... but I guess I'll get used to it again."
Mordred, Nyx and Vulpe
"You will," Nyx said serenely, then an evil giggle from Vulpe and her head jerked forward. "You just adore to play with fire, don't you?" The cat hissed at the fox. Vulpe peeked around her shoulder and waved at Gwen.
"Ragazza, your boy is tres buono. Congratulazioni."
"Now that your views have been made know, would you please go away?" Nyx said in exasperation.
Vulpe smiled malicously. "Not 'till you say I can tell Topa."
"I intend to visit her a lot myself," Modred said with a grin. "And if you ask nice, I might even take you up for a bit."
"Coolio, sweetie." Nyx nodded. "You told Vort yet?"
"When we see him, we'll tell him."
Gwen
"We should get to him... this is... scary. Before I couldn't wait to leave now... now it's just... weird."
Gwen's grip tightened on Mordred's hand.
Nyx, Mordred and Vulpe
"I'm gonna miss you like mad," Mordred said then hugged her hard.
"Oh, you two are so sweet," Nyx cooed, then yelped as Vulpe did something. She swung around, eyes gleaming with anger. Vulpe made a rude gesture, then backflipped out the open window.
"Vedali, gattia!"
"Oh, that fox is so dead." Nyx gritted her teeth. "Be good, Gwen sweetie. Stay safe."
Gwen
"You too Nyx. I'll see ya round. Thanks for everything."
Gwen smiled at the cat and then turned back to Mordred.
"Aw, I'm gonna miss you too, love. But, look, let's not go completey carrot top and you know what? I think I've spent way too much time with you and I've started to pick up your little English sayings. What the hell does carrot top mean anyway?"
Mordred
"Well, when you say someone is a carrot top, it means they have red hair." Mordred kept his face straight. "I think the words you're looking for run more along the lines, of barmy, looney, and staring sodding nutters. Just a thought, love." He smiled innocently.
Gwen
Gwen shrugged. "So, sodding, blimey, shagging, knickers, bollocks... I think definitely... too much time." She kissed Mordred. "Shall we find your brother then?"
Vortigern and Mordred
"Yeah." They walked on and then found Vortigern safely ensconced in his usual place in front of an easil in the garage. A huge canvas was set up in front of him and glowing lines of an amber yellow ran along it in curving shapes. Mordred went up and tapped Vortigern on the shoulder, and recieved a splash of paint along one cheekbone for his trouble. "Oi!"
"You shouldn't sneak," Vortigern said calmly. "It'll come off with some turps."
"Great, now I get to smell like paint all day." Vortigern just shrugged.
Gwen
Gwen giggled.
"Hey, Vort... I'm just come to bid you farewell... professor's given me leave..."
Mordred and Vortigern
Vortigern nodded distractedly, then turned back to study his canvas. "Have fun. I'd hug ya, except I'm kinda paintcovered. Be a good little girl but slightly evil and don't die. That's probably as much advice as I can give you."
"Well, you're just a bundle of joy, aren't you?" Mordred said.
Vortigern heaved a long suffering sigh. "She's your girlfriend. You do the comforting thing. I'll miss you, Gwen." He looked back around. "But if the prof says it's time to go, he probably knows best."
Gwen
Gwen shrugged. "I expected no less." She lay a hand on Vort's arm then ruffled his hair. "I'll miss you."
She turned back to Mordred. "Who now?"
Mordred
"You said goodbye to Bobby?" Mordred suggested. "Wolverine, maybe. I don't know how much he notices, but he'd probably like to know just for security reasons."
Gwen
"I think I'll see Bobby tonight. I think that should be a one on one... sorry. But yeah, Logan, I guess. Didn't know him that well, but why not. Although, Nyx probably will drop word in."
Gwen smiled and led Mordred away into the mansion again.
Mordred and Logan
"Hey, Wolverine," Mordred said as they got close to the stocky man. Logan looked up and cocked his head.
"Yeah, bub?"
"Gwen's leaving. Thought you might need to know..."
"You're going?" Logan looked at Gwen seriously. "If ya go evil, I will kill ya. Duty and all that. Otherwise, have a blast, kiddo."
"Ok, almost psychopathic and strangely terrifying..." MOrdred blinked. Logan halfgrinned.
"You'd be surprised how often it happens to people with the best of intentions. You know what they say about the descent to hell..."
Gwen
Gwen grinned.
"Ah, I know. Nevermind, I'll be as uncorrupted as I can be. But thanks for the warning."
Logan and Mordred
"Good to hear," Logan said laconically then bent back down to studying the schematics for placing a new system of alarms and sensors on the mansion grounds. He still couldn't quite shake that nagging feeling that there was someone watching them.
"Ok, let's get away from the man with paranoid tendecies," Mordred said as he carefully edged away from Logan, holding Gwen's arm.
"It ain't paranoia if they really *are* after you."
"Yeah, well, going now." The two left.
Gwen
Gwen nodded and gave a little salute and followed Mordred.
"Right, what now?"
She kissed Mordred again before looking around. "Hmm... the only one left is really Bobby, but that's a later type deal. Kate, I will deal with when I go to bed and... yeah."
Mordred
"The professor will tell Mr and Mrs Summers." Mordred thought carefully. "Tav and Dem...well, I can tell them. Is there anyone else? Really?"
Gwen
"Not really... so how's about you and I escape for some alone time?" Gwen asked coyly, wrapping her hair around her hands.
Mordred
"I knew I like the way you think." Mordred smiled and leant in to kiss her, putting his hands on her hips. "Your room?"
Gwen
Gwen shook her head.
"Kate, remember? Yours?"
Mordred
"Swear to god, I am going to kill that girl." Mordred frowned, thinking. "Can't. Tav. No...he's with Jack somewhere. Should be sade...I can put a lock on the door anyway."
Gwen
Gwen smiled.
"It's only for a day, remember? After this, I'll be in LA and we'll be all to ourselves when you come. Plus, no killing, the Professor will get mad."
Mordred
"Ah well." Mordred shrugged. "Nyx would help me hide the body, and my shields are quite strong. But anyway, let's get moving." He 'ported them both to his and Octavian's room, since Vortigern had more or less moved in with Spike on a permanent basis. He walked over to the door, locked it, and then jammed a chair under the doorknob. He caught Gwen's amused look. "Tav can be determinded and tactless," he explained.
Gwen
Gwen giggled and wrapped her arms around Mordred.
"Well, now that we're alone..." she kissed him softly.
Mordred
"Yeah, well then..." They kissed for a bit longer as Mordred maneuvered her onto the bed. The clothes didn't stay long and they made love. Afterwards, Gwen went back to her room and Mordred brooded for a bit, cigarette held carelessly in one hand. How would he cope without her? God, he loved her. He thought about that and sundry other things for a long time.
