29 June 2003 - Seeing dead people

Vulpe, Jono and Lance

Vulpe walked down with Jonothon for breakfast, chattering away at him in a mix of Italian and English. Jonothon had decided it was cute. And she didn't look at him like he was a feak. He liked that even more. Vulpe entered the room and waved at all the people who turned to stare at her. Dio, but she loved to stir up trouble. "Buona mattina," she said chirpily.

You're far too much of a morning person. ya do know that, right?

"Mordalo, gufo."

Oh, but you're still a bitch.

"I'm *always* a bitch. I just hide it better sometimes." She yipped with laughter as they made their way into the room. She got herself a mug of milky coffee and was walking over to a group of people Jonothon had indicated when she saw him. The mug hit the floor with a shattering crash. "Non potete essere qui. Siete guasti." She backed away from Lance shaking, eyes wide. "You're dead. I closed your eyes. I saw the blood. Mio Dio, you're dead."

"Vulpa..." Lance rose from his seat and then Vulpe attacked him.

"You're dead, voi bastardi! Topa *cried*! Vostre cane is still howling for voi!" She slapped him hard across the face, shrieking curses in Italian. And then she lowered her head against his chest and wept great heartbreaking sobs.

"Shh, fox, I know. I *was* dead."

"And voi couldn't call? Mouse is still crying." Her voice was muffled against his shirt. He closed his eyes briefly in pain.

"And what am I meant to say? Oh, sorry, Jane, a goddess decided to bring me back to life?"

Well, isn't this a bleeding soap or wot? Jonothon said with a touch of bitterness.

"He was dead, gufo. I smelt the blood and the death on his cooling body." Vulpe raised her head to stare at Jonothon, her beauty in no way diminished by her red eyes. "He saved me from a fate worse then death."

Wot?

"Being tied down to a table and experimented on like an animal," she said simply.

God, I really put my foot in it, didn't I?

"Slightly," Lance said dryly. He patted Vulpe's back. "Ya can let go now, Vulpe." She did and wiped her eyes. Lance fished in his pocket and handed her a hankerchief. She smiled at him through the tears.

"Oh, I'm so happy. Mouse is going to jump for joy. Now. Explain." Vulpe planted herself very firmly next to him. "Gufo, sit with me." She patted the seat and Jonothon rolled his eyes but sat down. Lance started to explain.

Becky and Martha

Becky and Martha walked into the caf, their bonnet strings hanging loosely, trays of foor in their han ds, as they chattered amiably in Dutch. Becky was the first to spot people she hadn't met yet, so she went up and curtseyed.

"Hello, I am Becky, and this is myy cousin Martha," the girls smiled shyly.

Vulpe, Lance and Jono

"Vulpe." She switched her attention back to Lance. "Did she say *why* she brought you back? And what happened to your...first body?"

"She said I wasn't finished on this earth yet. As to what happened to that body, no idea, mate." Lance shrugged.

"Il dio è gentile, ma Bastet è crudele. I'd say she was a femmina, but she's obviously a cat." Vulpe's tail lashed.

"I'm Lance Greene, pleased to meet you two ladies." Lance smiled.

"Si, pleased to meet you." Vulpe was still frowning. "You're still a bastardo for not telling us. Topa and Bets will be very upset that you didn't call."

"And how well is that supposed to go down, tell me that, Vulpe? Well, I'm sorry, but somehow was brought back to life after I put a bullet through my head because a goddess I didn't believe in decided it wasn't my time to die brought me back?" Lance growled at her. Vulpe's back stiffened and her eyes flashed fire.

"We wouldn't have cared! Voi figlio egoista di una femmina!" Vulpe snarled, ears flat against her skull. "We wouldn't have cared. Arrivederci, signore." Vulpe stalked off, and Jonothon's low mental whistle sounded in Lance's head.

Way to bleeding go, cobber. I haven't seen a chit so pissed off at a bloke since me mate Alan cheated on his girlfriend with her brother. Jonothon snickered at the memory, then walked after Vulpe.

Becky

The girls looked at Lance wide-eyed. "You were resurrected?" Becky asked, shocked.

Lance

Lance shrugged, looking uncomfortable. "A certain cat decided my time wasn't done here on this earth yet. She dumped me on Nyx. Your proffesor has been kind enough to let me stay here for a while. Legally, I'm dead. And I don't want to let the authorities know I'm alive again, either."
