28 June 2003 - New Arrival

Kate, Bobby and Gwen

Kathryn Stewart stared up at the building in front of her. She grinned evilly. So... this was Xavier's School For "Gifted Youngster's". Fun...

Why she had let her foster parent enrol her in this stupid school she still didn't know. Call it insanity on her half. But the fact was, she was here now, so she may as well get in learn all she had to and leave again.

Squaring her shoulders, Kate made the first step into the school. Wow, it was... just another building. She headed for the office that she had been told to find and just walked in, not bothering to knock. An old bald guy in a wheelchair looked up from whatever he was looking at on his desk.

"You must be Kathryn."

"Yeah, so I guess you're Xavier?"

"Please, seat down." The Professor gestured to the seat next to where she stood.

"I'd rather stand."

"Suit yourself."

"Good. Look, let's just... can you show me to my room or whatever, coz I've had a long trip, and I'd like to get rested and that." Kate wrapped her arms around her chest and frowned.

"Of course. Bobby will show you to your room." Xavier smiled as Bobby entered the office.

"Great," Katie muttered and followed Bobby from the room.

"Hi, I'm Bobby Drake. You'll be sharing with Gwen."

"Kate Stewart. Who the hell is Gwen?"

"She's another mutant."

"I figured that, dumbass." Kate rolled her eyes. Was everyone here going to be that stupid?

Bobby led her down a few corridors until they came to one door and stopped. He knocked on the door. A girl, who was obviously Gwen, opened it.

"Hey, Gwen, this is your roommate, Kate." Bobby smiled at Gwen.

Gwen smiled uncertainly back. "I thought..."

"Yeah, well Professor Xavier thought it would be best if you had a roommate." Bobby looked pointedly at Gwen and she nodded and sighed, opening the door completely. Kate walked in.

"Where do I park?"

"Just on that bed." Gwen pointed to the bed by the window. Kate threw her bags onto it and rifled through one and found her cigarettes. She shook her finger and a flame appeared on the end and she lit her smoke.

Bobby pulled Gwen outside and closed the door. "She's a little... anti social."

"You think?"

"Look, the Professor said she killed her family when she was young, by accident... she's been living with a foster family on and off, on the streets. She's not too happy to be here, but at least here she'll be looked after."

Gwen nodded. "So I play baby sit."

"You're not exactly known for being alright by yourself. You feel like lunch?"

"Sure." Gwen went back into the room and grabbed a jacket. "Kate, you want to get some lunch?"

Kate held up her smoke. "Got lunch."

"O...k." Gwen turned and left with Bobby.

Kate looked to see if she was alone. She was, so she pulled her laptop up and connected it up to the Net. She spied Gwen's laptop and grinned, going in and hacking around at the files. Interesting. Gwen Raiden was a thief, was she? That could come in handy soon.

Kate finished her cigarette and threw it out the window. She rifled through her bag until she found her bag of pot, and rolled herself a joint. She lay back smoking, calming down with each puff.

As long as she stayed high, maybe this place wouldn't be so bad.

Kate finished her joint and tossed it out the window. She made a ball of fire in her hand and threw it up and caught it again. She then made another one and started to juggle, then tired of the activity at closed her hands around them, extinguishing them. She stood up and decided to go explore and maybe actually get some food.

Heading out the door, she caught sight of a necklace of Gwen's. She took it and tucked it into her pocket.

***

Gwen sat in the cafeteria with Bobby and Mordred, eating and fiddling with the straw in her drink.

Bobby nudged her as Kate walked in, and he motioned for her to come over. Kate rolled her eyes but came over, flipped a chair around so the back was facing them and straddled it.

"So, this is where all the cool kids hang, right?" she asked sarcastically.

Gwen paused, seeing her necklace sticking out from Kate's pocket. She got up and put her hand on Kate's shoulder. "You want a drink?"

Kate looked up. "Yeah, sure, why not, roomie."

Gwen nodded and walked away to get Kate a drink, and flipping her newly acclaimed necklace in her hand. She put the drink in front of Kate and held the necklace out in front of her. "Don't even try to steal anything of mine, love, I'll always get it back."

Kate was impressed. "Well done. I've got a feeling that you and I could be good friends."

"Anything's possible, ain't it?" Gwen drawled, sitting back in her seat. "So, where you from?"

"All over," Kate replied, looking around. "There anyone worth doing around here?"

"My boy, but he's off limits to you."

Kate's eyes brightened. "I love a challenge. Who's your boy?"

Mordred and Vortigern

"That would be me, girl," Mordred drawled in his accent and smiled at Gwen. "And I don't think you have any idea of what ya dealing with in my love." He looked Kate up and down with one upraised eyebrow very clearly demonstrating his opinion of her. "You aren't anywhere near Gwen's level, and neither are ya very polite. Tsk, tsk, kid." His eyes turned cold. "Steal from her again, and I don't think you'd like to see what would happen. I'm a little on the protective side lately." He dismissed her with a shrug and waved at Vortigern from across the room. Vortigern waved back, then kept on talking with Spike.

Gwen and Kate

Gwen leaned in to Mordred's side. "Be nice, she's my roommate now."

Kate shrugged back, uncaring. Ah, wasn't apathy just bliss these days? "Gettin' the feeling you're always protective. Besides, your love doesn't seem to be that dangerous."

Gwen grinned. "You believe that, if it helps you sleep."

Kate rolled her eyes. "Pssh, whatever."

Mordred and Octavian

Mordred chuckled deep in his throat, sounding more like a growl. "I think I'd like to see what Spike would do to her if she went after Vortigern. What do ya think, love?" Mordred kissed the side of Gwen's face. Octavian sauntered over, holding a cup of tea and sipping it slowly.

"Good morning, Wolf, Gwen, Bobby." He tilted his head and looked at Kate. "Good morning. My name is Octavian and you would be...?"

Kate, Gwen and Bobby

"I'd be Kate, nice to meet ya." Kate sat back in her seat and smiled at Octavian.

Gwen giggled. "Hey Tav." She kissed Mordred's cheek.

"Hey Octavian." Bobby grinned and took a swig of his drink.

"Who's Vortigern and Spike? Are they hot?" Kate asked, raising an eyebrow.

The Mavericks

Octavian looked at Mordred carefully. "Are you completely insane?" Mordred grinned lazily, and shrugged. "Ah. You really are." Octavian shook his head and pulled up a chair to sit down on. Vortigern bounded over with Spike following more sedately behind, watching his lover's ass in tight blue denim.

"Morning all!" Vortigern nearly sang, smiling bouncy happy sunshine boy.

"Right, what are you on, and where can I get some?" Mordred asked his twin.

Spike made a derisive noise. "Don't ask me. He just...woke up this way. Not that I'm underappreciative, mind you..." He raised an eyebrow. Vortigern shook his head, then yelped as Spike sat down on a chair and dragged him into his lap. "So, who's the new bint?"

"Be polite, Spike," Vortigern sighed. Spike grinned.

"I'm a bad, rude man, luv. Even Darla, psychopathic torturing bitch that she was, couldn't change that. I am the Big Bad."

"Yes, we know. And none of us better forget it or even with the nancy boy soul you'll do something to show us how you earned the name of Spike," Octavian deadpanned. Spike flipped him the Bowman's salute, and Octavian did it right back.

"Your friends have the stones alright, pet. But I ask again, who's the new bint?"

Dawn

Dawn walked into the room and sat next to Spike, resting her head on his shoulder.

"Hi, I'm Dawn," she smiled, weakly. She wasn't feeling very good the last few days.

The Mavericks

"Hey, niblet." Spike stroked her hair. "What's the matter, pet?"

"That's Kate," Mordred said, jerking his head at the new girl.

Vortigern raised an eyebrow. Why do I get the feeling that you already dislike her?

Cos I do. She stole something of Gwen's. Vortigern's eyes narrowed at Mordred's answer and he looked at Kate appraisingly.

Why do I suddenly get the feeling it's time for the Mavericks to come out of retirement?

Let's make her life hell. They shared an evil grin. Spike looked a little worried, but Octavian snickered. He knew it wouldn't take long. Once Mordred got that look in his eyes. I won't say she's Listed but...

She's pushing it. Mordred closed his eyes and leant into Gwen.

Dawn

"Hi Kate," Dawn said sleepily. Then she snuggled into Spike.

"I've been having bad dreams lately. 'Bout Glory, and Mom, and Buffy. And sometimes Cassie and Tara," Dawn said enjoying the feeling of the vampire stroaking her hair.

Kate and Gwen

Gwen grinned as she leaned forward in her seat.

"I got myself a new roomie."

Kate nodded. "The bint is Kate. Who the hell are you?"

Kate, Gwen and Bobby

"Hi Dawn." Kate gave a fake polite smile and went back to looking around the room. This place was getting worse by the minute, maybe an escape later wouldn't be so bad.

Gwen giggled. "Not one for talking, are you?"

Kate shot her a look. "Well, you people aren't exactly whipping me into a verbal frenzy. I'm going." She stood and left, tossing Bobby an evil glare over her shoulder.

Bobby frowned. "What did I do?"

Gwen shrugged. "You're her opposite. She's pyrokinetic... so, I'm guessing she doesn't like you becase of that. Just a guess, considering I met her this morning. Her attitude sucks though."

Bobby took a bite of his sandwich and chewed thoughtfully. "The Professor said she had it rough... killed her family accidently, been on and off the streets. She's not the happiest of all kids, but she seems to hide it pretty well."

"Hmm, she's intriguing, I'll give her that."

Nyx and the Mavericks

Spike raised an eyebrow indolently. Nasty little piece of work. "Spike." Which of course, since you have no idea about the darker side of life, will mean absolutely nothing to you. He looked her up and down. "So. What's your hidden talent?"

Nyx squealed and jumped at Octavian. "Tavvie!"

"Hi, Nyx." He grinned and she purred. "Coffee?"

"Oh, yes, sweetie. Much, muuuuuuuch coffee." She bounced slightly. The people who knew how bad a thing this was, shared a glance of amused forebearance. "Danger Room sessions all day, sweetie. Gonna need some energy. See you sweeties later. Oh, and Vort? I want that painting." Nyx jumped off Octavian's lap and ruffled all of the boys hair a ruffle on the way past. Spike grabbed her hand. "William, sweetie, I need that hand."

"Don't touch the hair, pet."

"Don't call me pet."

"You started it." They both mock-glared at each other. "Calling me William..."

"Don't know why you dislike it so much." Nyx pouted, and then Spike released her hand. "Danger Room, you and all the Mavericks."

"Can do, Nyx oh adored one," Vortigern said with a smile. Nyx placed a kiss on his forehead.

"See, that's why I like your boyfriend, Spike baby. He's sweet. If you ever manage to lose him, he's mine."

"And what would Logan say about that?" Nyx made another ubercute pout face and walked away, strutting in her black leathers and high heeled boots.

"And that was Nyx. She's a force of nature in her own right," Octavian said fondly.

Scott, Jean and Dawn

Dawn yawned. "I don't call you William, just Daddy," she said, and she felt herself drift off to sleep in Spike's arms. Scott walked up and looked at his sleeping cousin. and couldn't help but smile. THen he spied the new girl.

"Oh, hello, you must be Kate. I'm Scott Summers, one of the teachers here," he he ld out his hand to her. Jean walked up next to them.

"And this is my wife, Dr. Jean Grey-Summers. She's also a teacher here," The pregnant doctor smiled and then sat down, absentmindedly rubbing her belly which was just beginning to show.

Mordred and Vortigern

"She's a bitch," Spike said bluntly. "Mouse had almost exactly the same type of childhood, and you couldn't meet a nicer person. Except for the whole wanting to tear the Spider into small bloody pieces with her bare hands, but ya can't blame her."

"She's a bit...off though," Mordred said. Spike rolled his eyes.

"She's an empath that spends most of her time with a wolf. She doesn't understand how people work. Of course she's a bit bloody off! But she's nice for all that." Spike smiled.

"She's angry at everyone." Vortigern shrugged. "She just screams it. All her surface thought is so noisy...she was staring to gove me a headache."

"Oh, bloody hell yeah. She better learn how to tone down if she's gonna stay at the mansion. There's too many telepaths not to, unless she wants to announce herself to all of them." Mordred kissed the side of Gwen's face.

Gwen, Bobby and Kate

Gwen leaned towards Mordred.

"Well, I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt, seeing as though she is staying in my room. Not liking that much, but oh well."

Bobby crossed his arms. "Excuse me for dwelling, but she doesn't like me because she's pyrokinetic? I'm friends with John, and he doesn't see our powers as a problem."

Gwen shrugged. "She's an interesting girl... can we kill her?"

Bobby shook his head. "I think that might be frowned upon."

They watched as Kate ran into someone and pushed them aside, slamming the door behind her. Gwen turned back to Bobby. "Can we kill her?"

The Mavericks

"Ask Nyx. She'll find a way to make it untraceable. She's *really* good at making people disappear. Trust me, you don't want to get on her bad side." Spike shuddered elaborately. "She even impressed the Master, no matter how much he disliked her personally."

"You know, you look at Nyx and you forget that she really isn't all that human," Vortigern said suddenly. "Like, Spike was human once, but Nyx is just playing dress ups."

"And that's too creepy for words, so let's leave it there, shall we?" Octavian cut in. "But I do agree, something must be done about her. Shall we?" The Mavericks shared a grin. Spike chuckled.

"I *like* it when you get that look, luv. Makes you look positively wicked."

Gwen and Bobby

Gwen shrugged. "I wanna talk to her first. I have a feeling there's a deeper side of her that no one knows about. Give me a week. If things haven't improved, you can have her."

Bobby snorted. "You're giving yourself a week with her? She's insane. Clearly."

"You're just cut because she doesn't like you straight off."

"Yeah, the point?"

"Petty."

"Annoying."

"Mama's boy."

"Orphan."

Bobby and Gwen stuck their tongues out at each other playfully.

Mordred and Vortigern

"Ok, love, she gets a week," Mordred agreed. "But if she doesn't anything else to ya or any of ya stuff..." His expression did not bode well for Kate.

Vortigern pointed at Mordred and laughed. "Look of impending painful death! She got the look! Oh, she is so screwed. She is massively in the way for pain and mental torment. I do get to help right?" he looked at Mordred hopefully, and the dark haired twin grinned lazily.

"Ya heard Gwen. We give her a week. But she looks like a pothead."

Spike snorted inelegantly. "At least you lot can't smell her. Gah. When did she *bathe* last?"

Gwen

Gwen smiled. "Thanks guys."

She stood up. "Right, I'm off to go practice. I'll talk to you all later and you," she looked at Mordred and kissed his head. "I'll definitely see you later."

Mordred and Vortigern

"As you will, my love." Mordred smiled up at her. Spike and Vortigern stood as well.

"I need to paint some more."

"And I need to get ready to train more brats in how not to get killed, or at least stay alive until someone sronger and meaner shows up to kick evil arse. See ya round." They walked off. Octavian got up and left.

"I need to find a London Times somewhere. I have investments to look after."

"Well. I think I'll finish my breakfast. Have a good day love, Bobby."

Bobby

Bobby stood. "I better go do that history assignment. Catch ya later, Mordred."

Bobby gave a salute and left with Gwen, before parting ways outside the cafe.

SCott

Scott smiled at Spike who was patiently holding a sleeping Dawn in his lap.

"Here," I'll take her if you like," he offered.

Mordred

"Ta, mate," Spike said as he gave the limp Dawn to Scott. Mordred washed down his last bite of toast with a swallow of coffee and stood himself.

"See ya, Spike. Mr Summers."

"Danger Room at two, orright?"

"Do I have a choice?" Mordred made a face. Spike chuckled.

"No. See ya, wolf." Mordred walked off.
