Lance and Nyx
Bastet hissed with annoyance as she watched the happenings of yesterday. That doctor had not meant to have done that. He was meant to go with Mouse, and then from there got to Priss. From Priss to Nyx and that doctor, Henry McCoy. Nobility! Her claws worked angrily on the cushion she was lying on. Mortals! Mortals and their damned morals! He had had nothing to do with what had happened to her Claimed, indeed, had helped her survive it. Her tail lashed from side to side as she tried to think about what she could do to fix this unfortunate circumstance.
Unfortunately, he didn't belong to her. She sneezed in disgust. He was Aescuplysius's...mostly by virtue of the fact that he was a healer. A true healer, who cared. Very rare these days. And that for gods damned prophecy...she really hated the things. Would she have left Mouse to suffer so if she could have prevented it? No. But the midnight market must be closed down, and she had to work through mortals to accomplish that. The kittens inside her kicked and she purred lovingly to them.
She watched the scene over again. Mouse's screams of protest and grief as they had driven away. Bets's mournful howling. Vulpe's face running with tears. And that one single gunshot. The doctor slumped over his desk, pistol slipping from his hand to fall on the ground. Well, she better get moving. She flashed to Olympus and sauntered to Aescuplyius's temple.
"Bastet! Long has it been since you visited us," the Greek god said, smiling in welcome.
"I need one of your followers. A man named Lance Greene." Bastet sat at Aescuplysius's feet. The god sighed, then nodded.
"As you will. I still owe you for that war a few centuries back..."
"Thank you." Bastet waited and Aescuplius made a hand gesture. A sparkling ball of light filled his hand and he gave it Bastet.
"He is precious to me..."
"Souls like this one are rare now." Bastet took it from the Greek god carefully and it floated above her head. "But the prophecy must be fulfilled. He has his part in it."
"Healer of earth, by light called forth, in time to bring the healing to all. A burnt earth requires healing by the pure at heart. Those who know what pain is, heal best." Aescuplysius nodded. "Go."
"You don't need to tell me twice." Bastet disappeared and reappeared in the mortal realm. Lance Greene dropped to his knees gasping.
"What? I, I was dead..." He put a shaking hand to his head, and was surprised to find it come away unsticky with blood. "I, I..."
I had to go to a lot of trouble to get you alive again. Bastet commented peevishly. He looked down at the cat, and his eyes widened.
"I don't understand..."
You don't have to. You're alive again, I brought you back, Lance Greene. I am the Goddess Bastet. Bastet looked at him regally. There is still work for you to do in this world, healer.
"I'm not a healer..."
You are now, blessed one. Bastet smiled gently at the confused and shaking mortal. This is your duty and your calling. You got a bit distracted...but you remain true to yourself. But then you had to go and kill yourself, and that really wouldn't do at all. Bastet sighed.
"What?" Lance was having a lot of trouble coping with this. He'd been dead! He had felt the bullet enter his head and kick him into darkness. He looked around at the bedroom he was in. Small, but clean and well furbished. The door swung open and a small black haired woman with green eyes stood in the doorway.
Good morning, Nyx my child. Bastet said calmly. Nyx snarled deep in her throat. The situation with Mouse is now resolved. Your magick is now returned to you. Nyx staggered for a moment then straightened up again. This is Dr. Lance Greene. He died yesterday, so be nice to him. With that, Bastet disappeared. Lance smiled weakly and waved.
"Um, hi?" Nyx entered the room and closed the door softly behind her, face curiously blank. "Well, this is as much a shock for you as it is for me. I was dead. Bullets to the head you normally dont come back from, but suddenly I'm here and there's a cat talking to me."
"Mom does that a lot. So." Nyx looked him over carefully. "Why exactly were you dead, and what do you have to do with Mouse?"
Lance explained, punctuated by growls and hisses at points. He winced when she started to swear, particularily when he got up to what had happened to Mouse in the research compound. When she got up and started to stalk across the room, he tried to shrink back into the wall. "So...Bets is with Mouse and Vulpe. I don't know what happened to them after that."
"Oh, I'm going to let this war destroy humans. All of them."
"Ok..." Lance decided to just sit tight and let her get this rage out of her system. Maybe if he stayed quiet, it wouldn't be let out on him.
Logan, Nyx and Lance
"I need to break things," Nyx said decisively and clicked her fingers at Lance as she strode out of the room. "C'mon, sweetie." Lance followed her, still more then a little dazed by the whole being brought back to life thing. Nyx sauntered through the halls of the school and headed down to the lower levels, ignoring any gazes that came her way.
"So...where exactly am I? Your mum was less on the explaining and more on the dumping." Lance looked arond with wide eyes, and then took his glasses off and polished him. Nyx looked back, and stifled a giggle. He was like this younger Aussie version of Giles...very amusing in its own way. Even down to the glasses polishing.
"This is Xavier's school for Gifted Youngsters...and the base of operations for the X-men." Nyx opened the life to the bottom levels and tugged Lance in after her. Soon, they were descending smoothly.
"The X-men? That group of mutants?"
"Yeah, sweetie. Logan!" The door opened and Nyx jumped into Logan's arms. He caught her and looked at Lance who was just staring open mouthed. "This is Dr. Greene, first name Lance. Apparently he was kinda dead, but then Mom brought him back and left him here with me! Isn't he sweet? And I got my magick back!" Nyx was feeling more then a little giddy. She nuzzled Logan's neck, then bit down hard. "Gonna let Beast look him over, then we have things to do." Logan's eyes crossed slightly.
"Whatever you say, babe," he agreed hoarsely. Nyx giggled in delight.
"Oh, you have no idea how good I feel. And apparently Mouse is safe now too, or at least going to be. He helped her, so I like him." She waved at Lance. "And he's a sweetie through and through. Mom said he had some stuff that the gods in general needed him to do, so she brought him back. He was with Aescuplysius, you know how rare that is nowadays? Very. As in, never happens. Ever. But it did, and she brought him back-" Logan cut her off with his mouth. She melted. Lance looked away carefully.
"So, let's get him delivered to the Beast." Lance looked at the stocky man carefully. He wasn't sure if he liked the sound of that. Logan let go of Nyx and she put her feet back on the floor as the couple moved down the white hallway. "C'mon, bub."
"Alrught then, mate." Lance shook his head and followed them.
"Hank! Got a patient for ya!" Nyx called out as they entered the Medlab.
"I'm coming, Nyx." Hank came out of his office and smiled at Lance. "Hello, Dr. Hank McCoy."
"Lance Greene." They shook hands.
"Don't be so modest. Mom said he's a doctor too."
"I thought I recognised the name...your article last month in the Scietific Observer on the uses of nanotechnology was absolutely brilliant."
"Thanks." Lance grinned at the blue furred mutant.
"He was kinda dead, and then Mom brought him back, so I just want you to check him over, thanks Hank, bye!" Nyx waved and disappeared with Logan.
"Oh my stars and garters. Is what Nyx said true?" Hank looked at Lance carefully.
"Yes. I was dead, and now...now I'm not." Hank nodded at the tone of confusion in Lance's voice.
"Well, why don't you sit down and I can check you out..."
