Christian
They were at another motel, and Christian found himself in much the same position as he had just nights before. He waite duntil everyone was asleep, before he took Taylor's phone and headed outside again.
Once again, he dialed Tanya's number and waited impatiently as it rang through.
Tanya
Tanya rubbed at her temples when she heard her phone rang. Those darn amphlifiers were a pain in the butt.
"Hello?" she said, answering.
Christian
"Ah, hey," he began nervously, remembering how the last call had ended.
"It's me. Uh... we got a lead yesterday. From the animals. We're heading for Virginia."
Tanya
Christian!
"Oh, hey, Christian. Virginia huh? Well, you've been doing better than me, that's for sure. My contacts hadn't found anything yet. When do you think you'll get there?" Tanya asked.
Christian
"Well you obviously don't have anyone with tongue," he couldn't help but smile a little, "apparently every animal knows so far. Umm... a few days. Two at least, I think. No one's really talked about it, we're just trying to get there. A guy reckons there's some FBI compound in ah... Quentico? Quantico? I think that's it. Something like that. That's what we're heading for. Well actually, we're heading for some guy's dog..."
Tanya
"Tongue is too rare," Tanya replied with a smile. "My only hope is that one day Taylor or Sheldon decide to become an agent. But I digress. Sounds like you guys are making good progress so far."
Christian
"I don't think either of them will," Christian frowned a little, "Taylor's too... paranoid. Sheldon's a sleaze, from what I hear. And it doesn't feel like progress, it's just... one step at a time. Slow and painful."
Tanya
"That's life," Tanya replied. "One step at a time. Eventually you look back and go, wow I came that far. If you didn't take that first step, you would still be where you started."
Christian
Christian had the sudden feeling she wasn't talking so much about the rescue operation anymore.
"Ah, ok. Yeah. I'm gonna go before this gets too awkward. I'll let you know if I hear anything."
Tanya
Tanya laughed.
"Okay then. Talk to you later Christian, and good luck."
"Bye."
Christian hung up.
As he was sitting on the ground, he leant back and let his head rest against the wall to consider his options.
Did he actually want to go to Houston to get his power back? It wasn't as if he was putting himself out, and of course he'd wait until they had Mouse back.
Rubbing his face and tired eyes, he shook his head. It would have to wait.
