Spook and Mouse

Christina logged onto her e-mail account and hummed happily as she perused her messages. After talking to that alien male, she had taken his advice. After all, why should she settle for 2.5 when she could possibly get more? After only three days on the midnight market, the place where things darker then usual were traded, such as weapons, research, bioagents and people, the asking price had skyrocketed. Governments all over the world bombarded her with offers, and private individuals sometimes offered more. An empath could be very handy. After replying to all the e-mails that the price for one empath alien was now 78 million US dollars, offer posted by the Chinese goverment, Christina bounced down to the basement to tend to Mouse.

Mouse's eyes tracked over to her captor and she felt again that overwhelmingly sense of relief that she hadn't been forgotten. The woman's ebullience spilled over into her mind and she shrank back into the sweat stained sheets on the bed.

"Good morning, Mouse."

"Good morning, ma'am." Mouse had no wish to experience any more pain. Wounded brown eyes watched Christina's every movement. Christina settled on the edge of the bed and fed Mouse soup, and then gave her some water to drink.

"You're going to make me very rich, you know that?"

"I, what?"

"Oh, everyone wants a little alien labrat." Mouse shuddered with fear. "That's what I wanted the blood samples for. People like that want proof."

"You are sick." Mouse's back arched as electricty sang through her, and she bit her tongue in an effort to keep back a scream. She failed. Mouse moaned, dazed as blood trickled down her chin.

"I'm not sick. You're the disease." Christina's face twisted up with a sick hatred. "You aliens, you come in here and pollute the earth."

"And humans don't?" A stronger, longer shock sent Mouse sprialling down into darkness. Christina eyed her with disgust as she got up from the bed and slipped a new IV needle into Mouse's arm. She was getting all mouthy again. Thought she'd been broken of that. Halluceogenics coursed into Mouse, and Christina left, plunging the room into darkness.

When Mouse woke up, she screamed as monsters came out of the darkness towards her. "NONONONONO!"

Christina turned down the volume of the mike planted in Mouse's cell, wincing slightly. She really could scream very loudly. Lucky no one could hear the alien in there, or even here she would get some very unwelcome notice. She opened up her e-mail account and nodded approvingly, 78.4 million from Japan. She updated the offer.
