Faith
Faith was walking through the graveyard patrolling, holding a stake and a knife. She staked a vampire then strangely enough, starting singing.
"Every single night
The same arrangement
I go out and fight the fight
Still I always feel
This strange estrangement
Nothing here is real
Nothing here is right
I've been making shows of trading blows
Just hoping no one knows
That I've been
Going through the motions
Walking through the part
Nothing seems to penetrate my heart
I was always brave
But never as righteous
As Buffy, now I'm wavering
Should be in my grave
I find this fight just
Doesn't mean a thing..."
She punched a vampire, and he sang back at her. "Sure you got that swing."
Faith staked him. "Thanks for noticing."
She walked over to a group of demons and vampires and started to
kill them, one by one. And they sang at her.
"She does pretty well with fiends from hell
But lately we can tell
That she's just
Going through the motions
Faking it somehow
She's not even half the girl, she, OW."
Faith walked off and cut the ropes of a young guy tied to a tree.
"Will I stay this way forever
Sleepwalk through my life's endeavor..."
The guy turned to her. "How can I repay - "
Faith walked away.
"Whatever
I don't want to be
Going through the motions
Losing all me drive
I can't even see if this is really me
And I just want to be
Alive..."
Faith and Xander
Faith shook her head. "Ok, that was weird." She was still confused when she went home and went to bed.
Waking in the morning, Faith was still slightly unnerved. She got up and had a shower, got dressed and headed over to Xander's for some training.
"And you say you burst into song?"
"Yeah... it was... just bizarre. There was like backing vocals, and everything."
"That's..."
"Bizarre, I know. So, I'm just waiting for this training session to turn into some crappy training montage from the 80's."
Xander chuckled. "Well..."
Faith jumped up on the balance beam and started her training while Xander observed. Music started and he opened his mouth to sing, Faith not hearing at all.
"You're not ready
For the world outside
You keep pretending,
but you just can't hide
I know I said that I'd
Be standing by your side
But I
Your path's unbeaten,
And it's all uphill
And you can meet it,
But you never will
And I'm the reason that you're standing still
But I
I wish I could say
The right words
To lead you through this land
Wish I could play the father
And take you by the hand
Wish I could stay here
But now I understand
I'm standing in the way
The cries around you,
You don't hear at all
'Cause you know I'm here
To take that call
So you just lie there when
You should be standing tall
But I
I wish I could
Lay your arms down
And let you rest at last
Wish I could
Slay your demons
But now that time has passed
Wish I could stay here
You're stalwart, standing fast
But I'm
Standing in the way
I'm just standing
In the way..."
Faith looked up from doing sit ups. "Did you just say something?"
Vortigern
Spike and Vortigern were going back to their room after classes were done for the day, when suddenly Spike started to sing and the two began to dance around the room, while remaining mostly unaware of what the other one was singing.
"This is the boy that I plan to entangle
Isn't he fine?
My claim to fame was to drain and to torture
Bloodlust was mine
But I'm out of the bloody biz
The name I made haunts me still
The only trouble is...
I'll never tell," Spike sang.
"He is the one he's such wonderful fun
Such passion and grace
Cool in the night when I'm right
In his tight--
embrace,
Tight embrace
I'll never let him go
The love we've known can only grow
There's just one thing that--
No.
I'll never tell," Vortigern sang in his high tenor.
Both: "'cause there's
Nothing to tell."
"He snores," Spike sang.
"He snarls."
"Say "Angel," and he freezes."
"He drinks blood and gets this breath
That I can't describe."
"I talk,
He breezes."
"He doesn't know
What please is
His soul is secondhand
From some demon guy."
"The vibe gets kind of scary
Like he thinks I'm extradonairy
But it's all just temporary-" here Spike looked away and bit his lip.
"Like his toes are kind of hairy
But it's all very well
'Cause, god knows,
I'll never tell."
"When things get rough
He just hides behind his Buffy
Now look, he's getting huffy
'Cause he knows that I know." Vortigen rolled his eyes.
"He growls,
He's demonic
He's also really broody
He never--"
"His eyes are beady."
"This is my verse,
Hello? He--"
"Look at me!
I'm dancin' crazy!" Spike did a dance in the middle of the room and
Vortigern giggled. "You know
You're quite the charmer
My sunshine in armour."
"You're the cutest of the demons
With your lips as red as rubies
And your firm yet supple--
Tight embrace."
"He's swell-" Spike looked faintly disgusted at the slang that crossed his lips.
"He's sweller-"
"He'll always be my feller-"
"That's why I'll never
Tell her that I'm petrified
I've read this tale
There's wedding
Then betrayal
I know there'll come the day
I'll want to run and hide
I lied
I said it's easy
I've tried
But there's these fears I can't quell
Is he looking for a pot of gold?"
Will I look good when I've gotten old?
Will our lives become too stressful
If I'm never that successful?
When I get so worn and wrinkly
That I look like David Brinkley
"Am I crazy?
Am I dreamin'?
Am I sleeping with
A human?
We could
Really raise the beam
In makin' love a flicker
So, thank god,
I'll never tell
"I swear
That I'll never tell
My lips
Are sealed."
"I take the fifth
Nothing to see,
Move it along-"
"I'll never
Tell." They finished together, then looked at each other.
"What in the bloody hell was that?" Vortigern asked. Spike shrugged.
"Beats me, luv."
Faith, Xander and Gwen
Faith was sitting at the table downstairs, reading through the Slayer handbook that she had finally been given. Xander watched from above, on the stairs.
Meanwhile, Gwen was watching Mordred, unseen.
Without realising, it, they started to sing. And what's more, they could hear each other.
"Believe me,
I don't wanna go
And it'll grieve me
'Cause I love you so
We both know
Wish I could..."
"Say the right words to lead you through this land." Xander sang.
"Wish I could trust that it will be just this once but I must do what I must." Gwen sang sadly.
"Wish I could play the father and take you by the hand." Xander started to climb down the stairs.
"I can't adjust to the disgust I've done and I just wish I could stay..." Gwen's eyes filled with tears.
"Wish I could stay
Wish I could stay here
Wish I could stay here
Wish I could stay..."
Gwen
Gwen approached Mordred and took his hand. She led him out into the school grounds and started to sing to him.
"I lived my life in shadows
Never the sun on my face
It didn't seem so sad, though
I figured that was my place
Now I'm bathed in light
Something just isn't right
I'm under your spell
How else could it be
Anyone would notice me?
It's magic, I can tell
How you set me free
Brought me out so easily
I saw a world enchanted
Spirits and charms in the air
I always took for granted
I was the only one there
But your power shone
Brighter than any I've known
I'm under your spell
Nothing I can do
You just took my soul with you
You worked your charm so well
Finally, I knew
Everything I dreamed was true
You made me believe
The moon to the tide
I can feel you inside
I'm under your spell
Surging like the sea
Wanting you so helplessly
I break with every swell
Lost in ecstasy
Spread beneath my willow tree
You make me com-plete
You make me com-plete
You make me com-plete
You make me..."
Gwen finished singing and looked away shyly.
Mordred
A smile blossomed across Mordred's face and he raised Gwen's hand his
lips, kissing it gently. He started to sing.
"Life's a show and we all play a part
And when the music starts,
We open up our hearts
It's all right if some things come out wrong.
We'll sing a happy song
And you can sing along.
Where's there's life,
There's hope.
Everyday's
A gift.
Wishes can
Come true.
Whistle while
You work.
So hard
All day.
To be with you always
To find our place in this glittering world.
Don't give me songs.
Don't give me songs.
Give me something to sing about.
I need something to sing about.
Life's a song
You don't get to rehearse.
And every single verse
Can make it that much worse.
Still my friends
Don't know why I stay
The million things or more
I could be dancing for.
All the joy
Life sends.
Family
And friends.
All the twists
And bends
Knowing that
I love you.
Well that
Depends…
On if you love me back,
On if I can trust myself to watch your back
That when I bow
I leave the crowd.
There was no pain,
No fear, no doubt
With you, I know more
Of heaven.
So that's my refrain.
I live in heaven
'Cause I love an angel
From heaven.
I think that you're my heaven.
So give me something to sing about.
Please give me something.
Life's not a song.
Life is bliss.
Life is just this.
It's living.
You'll get along.
The pain that I feel
Only you can heal
By livving.
You have to go on living.
So that one of us is living."
Gwen
Gwen kissed Mordred gently and wrapped her arms around his neck.
"I love you, you know that?"
Mordred
"I love you, my heart. I know it." He kissed her as he held her close to him. "You're an angel, too good for this earth. Just don't leave me yet?"
Gwen
Gwen's lip twitched slightly. But she had to soon. Her control over her powers was getting better. She didn't want to spoil the moment so she simply nodded and kissed him.
"I'll never leave..."
Mordred
"Mo cariad..." Mordred buried his face in her hair and just held her.
Gwen
Gwen took his hand and started to lead him back to the mansion.
"I'm under your spell God how can this be Playing with my heart you see You know I've been through hell But Mordred, don't you see You're everything that's good in me You made me believe..."
Mordred
"I love you. Nothing will change that." Mordred smiled at Gwen, slightly confused by all the singing. "You have a really nice voice, ya know, love..."
Gwen
Gwen smiled back at Mordred, then frowned.
"Why are we singing? And thank you, you're voice is like an angels..."
Mordred
"I have no idea why we're singing, but I like to listen to you sing. Do you think Lorne might have an idea why we're randomly singing? Not that I mind, but if Tav has a sudden inescable urge to sing, we need to buy ear plugs." Mordred winced.
Gwen
"I don't think it's just us... before, I was singing, and I could hear Xander. And he's in Tulsa... so... is that just coincidence?"
Gwen caressed Mordred's hand.
Mordred
"Maybe. But usually coincidence is just another name for connection. And they usually ain't that coincidental. Never heard of a mutant that could make people sing..." Mordred mused thoughtfully.
Gwen
Gwen paused. "I'll give Faith a call and see what's going on that way."
"In the meantime... shall we see who else this is happening to?"
MOrdred and Vortigern
Mordred's grin turned evil. "Oh, bloody hell yeah." They walked into the mansion.
"I've got a theory
That it's a demon
A dancing demon
No, something isn't right there..." Spike frowned. Vortigern laughed,
and then opened his own mouth.
"I've got a theory
Some kid is dreaming
And we're all stuck inside
His wacky Broadway nightmare," Vortigern sang.
"I've got a theory we should work this out," Mordred sang back.
"It's getting eerie
What's this cheery
Singing all about?" The three sang together, and then Octavian spoke
up from where he was standing. Contrary to what Mordred had said, he
did not sound all that bad.
"It could be witches
Some evil witches-" he saw Demetria and Dawn glare at him, and
hastily amended,
"Which is ridiculous
'Cause witches,
They were persecuted
Wicca good
And love the earth
And women power,
And I'll be over here." He carefully inched away from his twin.
Bobby and Gwen
Bobby appeared, swinging his keys looking like he was about to go out when he suddenly joined in the singing.
"I've got a theory,
We should work this fast
Because it clearly
Could get serious
Before it's passed..."
Gwen stepped forward and began to sing.
"I've got a theory
It doesn`t matter
What can`t we face if we`re together?
What`s in this place that we can`t weather
Apocalypse, we`ve all been there
The same old trips
Why should we care?
What can`t we do when we get in it?
We`ll work it through within a minute
We have to try
We`ll pay the price
It`s do or die
What can`t we face if we`re together
What can`t we face?
Whats in this place that we can`t weather?
There`s nothing we can`t face..."
Gwen finished and looked around. "See that was weird."
Mordred and Vortigern
"Weird? Freakish," Mordred sighed.
"Reminds me of something that happened once..." Spike frowned. "Back in ol' Sunnyhell. Can't quite remember... think I blocked the whole episode from my mind in self saving memory scrambling." He shrugged.
"Why are we all singing?" Vortigern looked at everyone, frowning slightly. "Not that I don't like to sing, but singing when I don't even know why is another matter."
Gwen and Faith
Gwen flipped out her phone and called Faith quickly.
"Yo?"
"Faith, hi, it's Gwen."
"Gwen, if you've run away again, I swear, I'm dragging you back to that school and nailing your ass to a seat."
Gwen giggled. "No, I'm just calling coz... well... has anyone over there... burst into song?"
Faith was silent. "Um... well, yeah. Xander and I are sorta confused."
Gwen sighed. "Yeah, it's happening here too. So you have no idea what's happened?"
"None at all. If I find out, you'll be the first I call."
"Same applies. I'll talk to you later then."
"Yep. Stay at school. See ya."
Gwen hung up. "Ok, Faith and Xander were singing, but that's about it. And they have no idea what's happening."
The Mavericks
"Confusion, confusion, madness and spite," Octavian said, smiling slightly. He waggled the fingers of one hand at Gwen and Mordred. "Well, I'm off. Got people to see, things to do..."
"Finish that essay, Ms Monroe set?" Demetria said snidely. Octavian rolled his eyes.
"Quite, Demetria." He walked away. Spike and Vortigern left the room together and went outside. Vortigern sat down on the ground under a tree and flipped the cover back on his sketchbook as he got the pencil out from behind his ear.
"I died
So many years ago
But you can make me feel
Like it isn't so
And why you come to be with me
I think I finally know
mmm-mmm
You're in love
You're not afraid to feel
And I can't tell you to go away
Though you should go and stay away
Whisper in a dead man's ear
It doesn't make it real
That's great
But I don't wanna leave
'Cause being with you touches me
More than I can say
And since I'm only bad for you
I'm saying stay away and
Let me rest in peace
Let me rest in peace
Let me get some sleep
Let me take my love and bury it
In a hole 6-foot deep
I can lay my body down
But I can't find my, sweet release
So let me rest in peace
You know,
You got a willing slave
And You just love to play the thought
That you might misbehave
But Till you do,
I'm telling you
Stop visiting my grave
Let me rest in peace
I know I should go
But I follow you like a man possessed
There's a traitor here beneath my breast
And it hurts me more than you've ever guessed
If my heart could beat, it would break my chest
but I can see your incomprehension
So leave me be and
Let me rest in peace
Let me get some sleep
Let me take my love and bury it
Im a hole 6-foot deep
I can lay my body down
But I can't find my sweet release
Let me rest in peace
Your love won't
Let me rest in peace." Spike sat down next to Vortigern anc cradled
his head in his hands. He should make Vortigern leave him. What did
he have to offer a spark of sunlight like this? And mortals were so
damn frail...
Faith and Xander
Faith hung up and turned to Xander. "Gwen doesn't know what's going on. But hopefully we've sung all that we - "
She rolled her eyes as she started to sing again.
"I touch the fire, and it freezes me
I look into it, and it's black
Why can't I feel?
My skin should crack and peel
I want the fire back
Now, through the smoke, you call to me
To make my way across the flame
To save the day
Or maybe melt away
I guess it's all the same
So I will
Walk through the fire
'Cause where else can I turn?
I will
Walk through the fire
And let it..."
Xander looked puzzled then began to join in.
"Will this do a thing to change her?
Am I leaving everyone in danger?
Is my slayer too far gone to care?
What if Faith can't defeat it?
Maybe Giles was right, I'm needed
Or I could just sit around and glare
I'll see it through
It's what I'm
Always here to do
so I will
Walk through the fire..."
Faith frowned.
"So one by one, they turn from me
I guess my friends can't face the cold
But why I froze,
Not one among them knows
And never can be told..."
"She came from the coma much graver
One by one, the demons come
First, they'll try to kill her, and I'll save her
Everything is turning out so dark..." Xander sang.
Faith looked off into the distance. "Walking through them all... walking through them all."
"No, I'll save her, then they'll kill her
I think this line is mostly filler
What's it going to take to strike a spark?
It's what they have inside..." Xander looked at Faith in
concern.
"These endless days
Are finally ending in a blaze
And we are
Caught in the fire
The point of no return
So we will
Walk through the fire
And let it burn
Let it burn
Let it burn
And let it burn..." Faith and Xander finished singing to find
they were holding hands. They pulled away and looked confused.
"I really am confused."
Dawn
Dawn went up to her room and took a necklace out of her jewely box.
"Does anybody even notice?
Does anybody even care?
My life's been so weird,
And nobody's there.
Gods are after me
I'm always being taken
But no one seems to notice,
Why do I feel forsaken?
My boyfriend, he's Superman,
But he will never understand.
My body is so sore
I don't think I can take anymore," Dawn stopped singing and curled
up around herself on her bed and wept.
