11 June 2003 - Breaking down

Mouse and Christina T

Morning found Mouse shaking uncontrollably as the noises continued to haunt her. Once she'd woken from the faint the violent electric shocks had put her into, she'd automatically reached out to soothe the pain and fear the person was sufferng. But there was nothing there. She was beginning to be convinced that she was going mad. She was hearing things, and she couldn't *feel* anyone. She was all alone. She'd never been all alone for this long before. There were no friendly minds to commune with, not even a hostile one to hide from. There was just this all consuming nothing...echoing with sounds from a nightmare. She wished she could block out the sounds, but she couldn't.

Chiristina checked in on her prisoner, and Mouse thought she'd never been so glad to see someone in her life. Just, that someone else was there. The relief was overwhelming. And the noises had stopped too as the lights came on.

"No tricks, alien."

"Ouiai, no tricks." Mouse watched Christina come to the side of the bed and her eager nostrils picked up the scent of soup.

"Good girl. Now, I'm going to feed you. Behave, or I go." Mouse nodded. "Glad to see you're in a more reasonable state of mind today." Christina put the spoon to Mouse's lips and the girl opened her mouth obediently. Mouse felt the warm soup trickle down her lips, and it only whetter her thirst and hunger to new levels. "I want you to tell me something."

"What?"

"Why did you move so much?" Christina held the spoon just out of reach. Mouse tried to raise her head and Christina moved it back. God, she was so hungry.

"Wanted to. Didn't want to stay still, I was looking for someone." Christina fed her another spoonful of soup.

"Who?"

"The Spider."

"Why?"

"He killed my parents." Each time Mouse answered a question, she got fed. This continued for a while, tossing question and answer back and forth. This continued until the soup was gone and Christina turned to leave. She put her hand on the lightswitch. "Please don't turn it off!"

"That's not up to you, alien." Christina turned the light off and the wailing recommenced as the door clanged shut behind the hunter. Mouse started to shake again.
