Nyx and Logan
Nyx stared up at the night sky, tears coursing down her face. She couldn't believe it. Mouse had been taken by person unknown, she couldn't find her and not only had her mother forbidden her and her sibs to aid Mouse in any fashion, Bastet had stripped her of her magick. The wind rustled through the branches of the trees around her and the lonely whispering sound seemed to strike right through her. Who knew where Mouse was? Who had taken her and why? Why?
At least Fafnir had made it back to Tulsa. She liked the tough street and wilds smart wolf. Nevyn was another matter. No one knew where Nevyn was, and she hadn't found a whiff of him when she'd gone back to the city. Hadn't found any of Mouse's belongings either. Nothing. A big fat nothing. Well, one dart with a dropplet of Mouse's blood on the end and stinking of sedatives and drugs best left unnamed. A howl burst from the cat's lips, rising upwards towards the moon in a keening lament.
Logan watched his lover from the shadows, feeling helpless. He'd been driven from her side with slaps and curses. He didn't know what he could do to help, or even if he would be allowed to be. Nyx's wailings made his heart ache. She needed to deal with this alone, he knew that. Knowing that and still watching her didn't make it any easier. Kurt came up beside him. "Hey, elf."
"Mein freund, she hurts."
"I know. She...wants to be alone." Logan looked at Kurt, sharp and intelligent face looking back at him with sympathy. "I was watching her...but I have to patrol. Will you watch her for me?"
"Ja, I will watch her," Kurt promised solemnly. Logan nodded, and with one last glance at Nyx sitting in the moonlight, silent now but tears still shining wetly as they flowed down her face, left to do his duty. Kurt jumped into the tree branches above him, climbing. After a beat, he looked down as Nyx joined him, her own claws coming into play. "Hallo, Damekatze." He returned his gaze to the starlight sky framed by dark branches. She settled herself into a crook of the tree near him.
"Grüße, blau," Nyx said softly, dewdrops clinging to her lashes.
"Wenn Sie alles sagen möchten, höre ich," Kurt offered quietly. (If you want to say anything, I will listen.) A broken sob echoed up from Nyx's chest, and then she was clinging to him like a child. Kurt patted her head and crooned to her in German. "Erklären Sie mir, Katze. Ich urteile nicht und was auch immer Sie zu mir sagen, nie durch andere gehört werden. Was Sie zu mir sagen, Aufenthalte mit mir," he said finally as her weeping settled down. (Tell me, cat. I will not judge, and whatever you say to me will never be heard by another. What you say to me, stays with me.)
"Mouse...I can't help her. My mother took my magick, damn her, she took my magick!" Nyx wept into Kurt's chest. "I can't help her, we're not allowed to. And she wouldn't say why."
"Sometimes, one must merely hope for the best."
"What can come out of this except pain?" Nyx asked him.
"Gott works in mysterious ways."
"I *know* your God, Nightcrawler."
"Mitt faith sustains me." Kurt shushed her with a finger held to her lips. "Don't tell me. Faith is belief in things unseen and unknown. Mouse is strong. She has survived a lot."
"She shouldn't have to survive this alone. Fafnir is in Tulsa, and wherever she is, she's all alone." Nyx's shoulders shook. "That is the worst thing that can happen to one with her power. To be alone, or only with those that hate her."
Kurt cradled her as she burst into tears once more and chokingly told him of what had happened, in detail. "Ach, kleines..." Kurt rocked her back and forth, tail gripping the branch behind him tightly. While they would both survive a fall to the groun, it wouldn't be pleasant.
"Danke schon," Nyx sighed raggedly after a while. "I needed that..."
"That ist fine, Katze." Kurt hugged her. "I am always willing to be a listening ear, ja?"
"Thank you." Nyx kissed him impulsively, and then clambered down out of the tree gracefully. "I'm going to find Logan...I said and did somethings I need to apologise for." She disappeared into the darkness. Kurt stayed out for a bit longer before also seeking his bed.
