7 June 2003 - Isis gets her date

Isis and Isaac

Isis gazed at her reflection in the mirror. This was her chance to win Isaac over and she was not to screw it up. Everything had to be perfect!

She gave her hair, clothes and makeup one last, close inspection, and then headed to her car. She drove over to the Hanson's and turned off the engine. She looked at herself in the rearview mirror.

"This is it," she said.

Isis got out of the car and rang the bell. A minute later Isaac appeared at the door. Dang he looked gorgeous.

"Hi," he said.

"Hey..." she couldn't stop staring.

"Umm... we gonna go?" he asked.

"Oh, umm, yeah, sorry."

Isaac sighed. This was going to be a long night.

Upon their arrival at the restaurant, they were seated at a table and given menus. It was silent and awkward for a couple of minutes.

"So, umm," Isaac began. "What... what exactly do you do?"

Isis blinked. She had the sneaking suspicion that 'professional stalker' would not win her any points.

"I'm... you'll laugh at me."

"Try me."

"I'm a spy."

"Oh really?"

"Seriously. I'm the woman people hire to find out if their husbands are cheating on them."

"Wow... that... I... pay much?"

Isis laughed.

"Not as much as I'd like."

"Catch many cheating husbands?"

"Mmm... all these ones who do cheat I catch," Isis grinned. "Telepathy has it's benefits."

"Ahh. Yes..." Isaac remembered his own encounter with Isis's telepathy.

Isis winced. She shouldn't have brought that up. Bad move number 1.

The dinner went rather smoothly, although Isaac felt rather weird letting Isis pay for it all. He tried to contribute. but she insisted.

After dinner they headed to the movie theatre. Isis shamelessly held his hand throughout the movie.

The odd thing, Isaac felt, was that he actually enjoyed hanging out with Isis. Sure, she was a little weird, and her previous behaviour questionable, but she seemed nice enough.

When the night was over, Isis drove Isaac back.

"Here," she said, hanging him a card. "This is my number. Please, call me."

Isaac smiled, thanked her, and then got out of the car and went up to the house. Isis waited until he had gone inside and headed home. She was bursting to know what would come of this. She wasn't sure she could wait.

"Breathe, girl, breathe," she told herself. "Don't you dare do anything to screw this up. This evening went well - I think. Dang it, if only he didn't have that darn shield!"

Isaac made his way to his room and got ready for bed.

Isaac and Zac

There was a tentative knock on Isaac's door.

"Come in," Isaac said.

Zac opened the door nervously.

"How'd it go?" he asked.

"Better than I expected," Isaac replied.

Zac nodded.

"Oh good," he said. "I've been really worried."

Isaac's eyes caught Zac's and he smiled.

"Even if it had been the worst date ever, it would have been worth it to get you out of there."

"Thank you."

There was silence for a moment.

"You think you'll ever see her again?" Zac asked.

Isaac shrugged.

"I don't know."
