7 June 2003 - Prophecy fulfilled

Mouse and Christina T

Mouse said goodbye to Nyx and everyone else at the Mansion and set off for the airport. She caught a taxi in and then decided to look around New York before she went back to Tulsa.

~*~*~*~

Christina watched Mouse through a pair of binoculars. The men aound her waited silently. Her plans had changed. She was't out for blood, this time. "Capture her, trank the wolf. That's your orders, let's go. And let's try to keep this from the public eye." They nodded and then set off. Christina wanted more then one alien after all this trouble she'd gone through for the lttle streetrat's hide. She was betting that after the wolf woke up and started wailing, aliens would come running. But she wouldn't make the brat easier to find. Oh no. Christina had some issues to take up first.

~*~*~*~

Mouse walked down the streets of New York, sliding easily through the crowds. Absentmindedly, she picked a few pockets and walked on before their owners discovered their loss. She decided to get a coffee, bought one at a stall and then kept walking, blowing on the hot liquid to cool it a bit. She passed by the mouth of an alley and the unreasonable eddies of the crowd left her by herself for a crucial five minutes.

~*~*~*~

One of the men squeezed his trigger and a red flower blossomed from the side of Fafnir's ribs. He staggered for a moment, then dropped as the strong tranquiliser coursed through his system. Christina waited a beat, then squeezed her own trigger.

~*~*~*~

Mouse stared at Fafnir in shock, then clapped a hand to her throat. She pulled out a dart and looked at it, then crumpled to the ground.

~*~*~*~

"Let's clean up, people," Christina snapped as she walked over to Mouse's still body. She kicked the wolf in the side and then watched with a stony face as the men she'd hired put Mouse in the white non- descript van. They sprayed around the area with pepper, hoping to confuse the wolf's sensitive nose when he did wake up. Christina got in the back and took pleasure in cuffing Mouse's hands and tying her feet before inserting an IV line to feed the girl a stream of mild sedatives. Just enough to keep her woozy and off balance. They stopped at a warehouse, after executing several maneuvers to throw the wolf's nose off the scent and Christina paid them off. They left.

Christina started in on the next phase of her plan. She collared Mouse with a shock collar and then got into another car and drove to the airport, playing the part of a nurse with a patient. Soon, she was in the air and she relaxed, smiling. When she arrived at her destination, she'd start trying to figure out why this target had been so hard to acquire.

~*~*~*~

Fafnir tried to wake up, tried to shake off the drug induced sleep but soon surrendered, unable to make himself aware.

Mouse twitched in restless sleep, and Christina eyed her, then increased the sedation dosage.

Fafnir

Fafnir woke, aching, mouth dry and feeling sick and shivery. He lifted his head woozily, and tried to find Mouse through his blurred vision. Mouse? He didn't recieve an answer. MOUSE?! He inhaled and started to sneeze repeatedly as the pepper went up his nose and burnt his delicate nasal passages. Nom d'une nom! He got to his feet and shakily made his way deeper into the alley, feverish and ill. Pack, Pack, Pack, where are you? He collapsed again and fell back into sleep as his energy deserted him and the drugs took hold again.

Taylor

Taylor awoke from where he'd collapsed onto a couch in the livingroom.

That was weird.

Scratching his head, he yawned a little, then suddenly felt sick. His animal instincts were trying to tell him something.

But he couldn't tell what.

Christina T

Fafnir snarled weakly at some rats that came too close. They moved back, black eyes gleaming with predatory interest. Where was...Nevyn? He moved his head slightly, feeling confused and heavy as he struggled to think through the fog. He couldn't see Mouse's bag...probably been stolen by now. He couldn't smell hardly a thing. His nose hurt and he felt so heavy. Fafnir lapsed back into unconsciousness, teeth showing in a threatening grimace.

~*~*~*~

Christina moved Mouse quickly inside the house and downstairs to the basement. She put Mouse on the cot that was in the basement, which was more like a bunker with a steel re-enforced door that bolted from the outside and made entirely out of concrete. "I love Mexico. They're so much more corrupt then America. A few bribes in the right places, and I can do more or less whatever I want," she said amiably to her unconsious prisoner as she reinserted an IV line. "Well, I think I'm going to go out and get some dinner. Sweet dreams, Mousey." She left the room and turned off the flourscent lighting, plunging the room into the true darkness that came under the earth and closing the door behind her.

Bastet's children

Nyx felt uneasy about Mouse, so she tried to find her through their link. She couldn't. Quickly, she 'ported to Sabre. "Sabby, I can't find Mouse. Can you check for me?"

"Sure thing, Niss," Sabre said agreeably, and then frowned. "I can't feel her either. Do you think somethings wrong, or maybe she's just moved into a strong magickal field?"

"Maybe..." Nyx looked dubious. "If anyone can find her, Priss can."

"Say hello for me." Nyx nodded and 'ported out. She appeared in Priss's bedroom, white and swaying.

"Nyx, dearest!" Priss came and caught her sister. "What hast happened that thou seekest me here?"

"I can't feel Mouse...and neither can Sabre."

"I shall seek her then..." Priss closed her eyes and concentrated, and then a small frown appeared between her eyes. "I cannot find her...how odd."

"I think something's happened."

"Perhaps something has...Mother, can we have a word."

I cannot come, and I cannot interfere. Bastet said sadly. Nyx listened with shock and outrage. Mouse has her own battles to fight, and none of us can aid her.

"Mom, please tell me you're kidding."

I'm sorry, Nyx.

"Sorry don't count for shit!" Nyx yelled. "You *Claimed* her! We owe her our protection!"

Not this time, kitten. And do not tempt me on this, Nyx, otherwise I shall give your ears such a boxing! Nyx screamed in outrage and Priss hastily erected a ward to contain the effects of her sister's anger. Chaos bloomed around Nyx, twisting and shifting reality as she threw a minor tantrum. Soon, it was over and she stood there panting. Are you done?

"I will find her."

I'm sorry for doing this child, but you leave me no choice. Bastet said regretfully. Nyx disappeared from Priss's room and the white cat started to clean up, removing the scorchmarks from the floorboards. Nyx screamed again as Bastet depoisted her none too gently in her room at the Mansion and then wailed as her magic was taken from her. Not all of it, just most of it so she wouldn't have enough to find Mouse. Nyx collapsed on the floor sobbing.

Logan and Nyx

Logan came in to find Nyx crying on the floor. "What's wrong, darlin'?" He asked as he came and lifted her off the floor and into his arms. She clung to him and cried harder. "Shh now, tell me what's happened."

"I can't find Mouse, and my mother has forbidden me and my sibs to aid her!" Nyx wailed. "She took my magick from me, Logan! She took my magick so I couldn't help Mouse!" Logan rocked her back and forth gently. "I need to call the Hansons. They'll have to find her. We can't. I can't." Nyx wept.

"We'll call them in a minute. Once you've calmed down."

~*~*~*~

Fafnir managed to stagger to his feet and slipped through the dark night streets of New York. He had to find Pack. He picked up some traces but they all ended in dead ends. He couldn't find Nevynb either. God knows what had happened to the old rat. He howled to the starstudded sky above though he could barely see it through the smog. PACK!

Logan, Nyx, Christina T

Fafnir couldn't find anything, so fighting the alluring pull of the drugs that still remained in his system, he set his course for Tulsa. He loped throughout the night, despite his growing exhaustion. He needed to reach the leader of the Pack. He'd know what to do. Fafnir clung to that hope as he ran through, like a ghost in the night. Dogs howled as they caught the scent of his wildness on the wind but Fafnir didn't pause.

~*~*~*~

Logan couldn't get Nyx to calm down, she just kept crying. So eventually when he got her to bed with the aid of a sedative he went to the phone himself, only to realise he didn't know the number. He cursed briefly, and then shrugged. The girl could take care of herself and it was about midnight anyway. Like they'd appreciate being woken at this hour. He crawled back into bed with Nyx, making a very firm mental note to contact them in the morning...at a more reasonable hour.

~*~*~*~

Christina hummed to herself as she watched the progress of the tracker she'd planted on the wolf. He was making better time then she'd expected. She sipped from her cup of coffee, then looked at another screen to check on Mouse. Still asleep. Well, with that amount of tranquilisers coursing through her system, she'd have to have the constitution of an ox to even move slightly. All in all, a good day's work.
