21 May 2003 - First Dates

Orlando

Orlando and Demetria got out of the cab at the movie theatre, bought their tickets, and then walked across the street to a little diner to get a bite to eat. Orlando ordered a fish fry, and when nobody was looking, poured salt into his water.

"it's better this way," he smiled at her.

Demetria

"For you, maybe. I'll stick with my unsalted water." Demetria grinned. She had ordered a small Ceaser salad with chicken in it. "I haven't really had a chance to get outside the mansion, so this is a nice change."

Orlando

He cut into the fish and took a bite. "Too bad it's cooked, it really does ruin it," he grinned.

"So, fromn what I understand, your life in confusing. You have a twin brother who is now youre twin sister?" he asked, still amused.

Demetria

"Yep. Me and Dawnie worked a spell." Demetria was a bit proud of her newly learnt magical prowess. "He was being a brat, not that he still isn't being a brat, just in a female way. Diana turned him into a girl for us."

Orlando

"Oh, Diana, now that's a fickle one." he smiled. They ate up and then went over to watch the movie.

Demetria

"Yeah, Dawn said. I'm not doing spells on my own yet. I'm not quite game enough." They got in the line to enter the movie theater, shwoing their tickets and going in quickly.

Orlando

"Harry Potter looks like it'll be good, and Lord of the Rings, too. Do you want any snacks for the movie? IMy treat,"

he smiled.

Demetria

"Coke, and maybe some popcorn?" Demetria smiled. "The movies look like they'll be good."

Orlando

"Definitely popcorn, and candy too, of course. Besides, we need things to chuck at the couples who make out during the movie," he laughed. "Do you like Goobers?"

Demetria

"Oh yes, darrrrling. This brings back all kind of memories, this does. Tav and I were evicted from a movie theatre back home once, becuase we threw things at the people who were making out. Don't know why, exactly. It's their own fault." Demetria smiled mischevously.

Orlando

Orlando bought the snacks and they made their way into thee movie, sitting in the back.

"Hmm," he said after Dem took a bite of some popcirn. "Do you taste like popcorn now?"

Demetria

"I don't know," Demetria said thoughtfully. "Do you want to help me find out?" The corners of her mouth curved up slightly. Flirting was fun.

Orlando

He leaned over and kisdsed her. "Delicious," he said, smiling. "But we;d better watch the movie, or people might chuck things at us instead," he laughed.

Demetria

"Good point." Demetria nodded and settled back to watch the movie. The spiders in the Forbidden Forest made her mover closer to Orlando with a shudder. Dear lord, but she detested spiders. They were all crawly and furry and ugh!

Orlando

Orlandol put his arm around Dem. "Spiders. Yech. So glad they don't live underwater." When LotR started, they snuggled closer together, but Orlando had to speak up at the meeting of the Ents.

"I'm sorry, but they are not speaking Entish. I don't know who decided to make up that language, why didn't they just aske the real ents?"

Demetria

"I don't think Tolkien thought they were real." Demetria giggled. "And now I've met Elves too. They don't look *anything* like that. And they wear a lot less clothes. Vort and Mordred's littlest sister talks to Mab a lot, so we've had the Fey and other varieties of Gentle Folk up at the school. And Theresa has her Will o' the Wisps, of course."

Orlando

"All plants, all living things can speak. Even rocks have a language of their own. It all depends on how you speak to them. Did you know that there's Dryad in the school courtyard?"

Demetria

"Really? How very intriguing. How do you talk to Dryads?"

Orlando

"Well, you can either speak Oak, since this one is an oak tree, or you can speak English. Occasionaly, if you address a dryad directly, he'll answer you." Orlando esxplained. "I'll introduce you to him when we get back to the school. People with magick=trained eyes can often spot them right away, but not always. I can, because I'm used to it. There's an island where the mermaids sun themselves, called Dryad Island, in the Bermuda Triangle, it's all plan-people and tree-people. That's where I learned tro walk. Well, there and on Dad's boat. The difference between dryads and ents arethat Dryads are rooted, though they CAN move, it's just very, very difficult, and takes them a long time. I noticed the dryad on my way into the school today, though." He smiled at her.

Demetria

"Exciting. Since I can't speak Oak, I'll have to go with the English." Demetria's eyes drifted back to the screen. Just in time to see Haldir die. "Oh, that wasn't part of the book!" She said quietly but in an irritated fashion. "I *liked* Haldir."

Orlando

"Aw," Orli said, kissing Dem's temple. "I liked Haldir too. Very annoying these moviemakers are. And Tolkein went to all this trouble in create an elvish language, when he coulda just asked the real elves."

When the movie ended they both clapped, and got up.

"What did you think, Dem?"

Demetria

"I thought it was a good movie, but they changed it. A lot." Demetria pouted. "And Elvish, this type and the real one are pretty." They started to make their way out of the cinema.

Orlando

They took a cab back to the mansion. As they were walking through the grounds under the stars, Orlando spoke up.

"Forgive me for speaking so candidly, Dem," he began, "But I must say this. My people, the Mer, are very strong believers in love at first sight. In fact, we are told, since childhood, that when you meet the person you're destined to be with, at the first touch of tails, you'll know." he chuckled. "Of course, touching tails is the mer equivalent of a french kiss." He set his hands on her shoulders and looked down into her eyes. "Demetria, what I'm trying to say is, though I've known you less than a day, when we kissed, I knew." he smiled. "I suppose it sounds silly to you, but I'm falling in love with you."

Demetria

Demetria blinked. "I don't know anything about love...but I'm willing to see where this will go. Is that alright?" She smiled slightly. "Love at first sight has never really been my thing...but I do prefer long relationships to short ones. I could fall in love with you. Would that be enough?"

Orlando

"I don't want you to feel obligated, and I never expected reciprocation, I just wanted you to know what was in my heart. That would be more than enough for me Dem." he smiled, and the leaned down and kissed her.

Demetria

"You really are a sweet boy," Demetria sighed. "Just hold me, please?"

Orlando

"I will hold you forever," he promised. "Oh, would you like to meet the oak tree?"

Demetria

"Why not?" Demetria said and they made their way over to it. "Never thought there'd be so much magic in the world. Mutants, aliens, yes. Magic? No."

Orlando

Orlando took Dem's hand and they walked up to the large old oak tree. Orlando spoke a few words in Oak, and then switched to English.

"Good evening, sir dryad, may we enquire of your health and your name?" He asked, politely. Two eyes, hidden behind knotholes opened and the tree spoke aloud.

"I was wondering with all the magic around if anybody would think to notice me," he answered. "I am Dran,. and I am doing quite well, though several others around here are not. You children should remmeber that trees are alive as well before you excercise your powers at us," he scolded.

"I am very sorry, Dran, I will spread the word around. my name is Orlando, and this is Demetria. I was not expecting to see a dyrad outside of Dryad island, and I am pleased to make your acquaintance." Dran smiled a leafy grin.

"You've been to the island? You're not human, then," he said, surprised.

"Half human," Orli explained. "Half mer. I learned to walk there. Your people are very kind. SO many people don't understand how kinds trees are."

Demetria

"How utterly intriguing," Dmemetria breathed, eyes wide. "I have never had the honour to meet a Dryad before. Or I probably did, and just didn't know it. Pleased to meet you, Dran. My name is Demetria Juno. Mutant."

Orlando

"It is nice to meet you, miss," Dran said, lowering a branch and setting it gently on her shoulder."

"I would love to stay and chat, Dran, but we should probably get inside," Orli said to both him and Dem. "It's rather late, and I need a swim before I go to bed."

Demetria

"Quite. Good night, Dran, Orlando." Demetria kissed Orlando on the cheek. "Thank you for a perfectly wonderful night."

Orlando

"Thank you for the date, Dem, I will see you tomorrow." he kissed her hand and then headed off to the pool for a good soaking.
