Faith
Faith and Angel sat on the rooftop of the Hyperion Hotel. The scene felt familiar to Faith, seeing as their last heartfelt talk had been up there. But it was up there, away from the real world, where they both felt the most comfortable. Gazing down, Faith was itching to go patrolling, but she and Angel had agreed to talk as soon as the sun went down and then patrol together.
"So how was it when you went back, last time?" Angel asked, leaning back from the edge.
Faith shrugged. "I guess it was ok. Apparently someone broke up with Zac, and she looked like me. Or something. It's all very confusing. But Zac and I worked it out, thankfully."
"That's good. And the Ball?"
"Last night. And Zac and I fought in the Challenge before it, as well. Did I tell you about that thing?"
"Yeah, you mentioned it. Once or twice." Angel grinned at the dark haired Slayer.
There was a long comfortable silence between them, broken only by the faint sounds of traffic from the world below. Faith glanced over at Angel, she looked away quickly.
"So everything's good?"
"Yeah, five by five."
"Faith..." that was all Angel had to say and Faith felt her resolve crumbling.
"How do you do that?"
"Do what?" Angel looked innocent. Kinda like... an angel.
"You do that tone of voice and I wanna tell you everything."
"Oh you ain't seen nothing yet." Angel smiled and ruffled Faith's hair. She smiled back at him and shivered in the cold.
"You wanna patrol. But you can only do that if you talk. So what brings you to LA?" Angel asked.
Faith shrugged again. "I don't know. I guess I was just bored in Tulsa. Plus, I wanted to see how my sponsor was."
"You're scared. But why?"
"Man, you read my mind. How did you know?"
"You're scared because you think the end of days is coming. And you're not sure what side you'll be on."
Faith looked confused then she realised. "Orpheus."
"Yeah. Thanks to that, we have a connection."
"But I can't get into your mind. Again."
"Like the mirror. The thoughts are there but they cast no reflection."
"Ohh."
"But close your eyes. In the back of your mind, you should feel me there. You'll feel me if I'm in pain."
Faith closed her eyes, searching in her mind, wondering what he was talking about. Angel grabbed the knife out of Faith's pocket and lightly slit his arm. Faith opened her eyes.
"I felt that." Faith looked confused and then glanced at Angel for a second, smiled then looked downcast.
"You're worried because I can feel when you hurt?"
"Yeah. And stop that."
Angel grinned. "Well, it doesn't matter to me. I like having the connection with you. It means we can always keep in touch. A telepathic link is forming."
"But you can't..."
"I can project telepathic conversation. Just you can't search around my mind. It has to be voluntary."
"Weird."
"I know. Want to patrol now?"
"Yep."
Faith and Angel got up and climbed the stairs down from the roof and out onto the streets of LA ready to patrol.
