3 May 2003 - Hunted again.

Christina T and Mouse

Christina parked her car in the now habitual spot outside the apartment building. Her target was inside. And she had discovered a whole colony of aliens here. She'd take out this one, and then...she'd go after the rest. Making the world a little bit cleaner for humanity. She cleaned her rifle and waited for the target to show itself.

~*~*~*~

Mouse stepped out of the doors of her apartment, Fafnir glued to her side. "Hey, we haven't seen hide or hair of the woman. I think she left." She ruffled his ears as she took one more step towards the street. A bullet whined through the air and spun off the stone next to her head. Mouse screamed in shock and faded back through the wall. Fafnir whirled and dodged back inside, a bullet zipping away again inches from his shoulder.

Told you. The wolf said almost smugly, and then they both bolted up the stairs as the glass of the door shattered behind them.

~*~*~*~

Christina worked the bolt action of her rifle, mouth set in a grim line. Right. They wanted to play, did they? Well, the Spook would play. She stepped out of the car, and slammed the door shut behind her. Her heels clicked over the pavement as she walked towards the door. Carefully stepping over the glimmering shards of glass, she crunched her way to the stairs.

~*~*~*~

Mouse fled inside her apartment, trying to open the door and let Fafnir in.

~*~*~*~

Christina sighted carefully along the crosshairs of her sniperscope. The wolf again? She took aim.

~*~*~*~

Mouse opened the door and Fafnir flashed inside, yelping as the bullet singed along his hindquarters. You alright?

I'm fine. Quick, ring someone!

Good idea! Mouse locked the door again, and slid the deadlock home. Then she put the lounge against the door.

~*~*~*~

"Jesu Christos!" Christina spat as she reloaded the rifle. "This one has the luck of the devil himself." She stomped up the stairs.

~*~*~*~

"Pick up, pick up, pick up..." Mouse moaned into the phone. "Somebody please pick up." She didn't dare risk calling the police. They couldn't let humans find out about aliens. But someone in the apartment building might ring them. She screamed and ducked as a bullet came through the door.

~*~*~*~

"Open up, Mouse. The cat is at your door," Christina said.

"Go away!"

"Not gonna happen." Christina could hear the aniamls in side howling up a storm.

"I'm calling the police!"

"Oh no, you wouldn't do that. You aliens havta be soooo careful." Christina raised the gun and carefully shot off the lock. She pushed at the door, and cursed when it didn't open.

"Oh, please, someone be home..." Mouse whimpered into the mouthpiece and listened to the phone ring. Sidhe, Neyvn, go! Go find Tay!

C'mon, kitten. Nevyn scampered to the window and let himself down. The cat stared anxiously at Mouse.

Don' wanna.

Go now, baby, please. I don't want you to get hurt.

I'm the only one allowed to kill you, got it, brat?

Dirty stinking canid, stuff it up your nose! Sidhe retorted before leaping for the open window. She never made it. A bullet hit her in the shoulder and she squalled as she dropped to the floor.

"SIDHE!" Mouse shrieked as she felt the flare of surprised and questioning pain, and then the winking out of the kitten's mischeivous mind.

BRAT! WE ARE GONNA KILL YOU NOW! Fafnir howled angrily, and would've flung himself at the door but Mouse grabbed his ruff.

"Not you, not you, I couldn't bear it if you died," she gasped out. Finally someone picked up the phone. "Oh god, Sidhe..." She didn;t notce as she wept heartbrokenly, and then shrieked as another bullet slammed into the wall.

Isaac

"Mouse, is that you?" Isaac asked. "What's going on?"

He was very concerned by the crying and the banging going on.

Taylor

Taylor grabbed onto his chest suddenly and began to choke.

Flavian looked up worriedly, and jumped from the fuzzle's box to the floor.

"Tay-Tay?"

Taylor coughed and spluttered for a moment, holding his chest. He suddenly had the overwhelming urge to cry panic-stricken.

His eyes widened.

"Mouse?" he realized.

Mouse and Christina T

"Ike, oh god, Ike! That hunter, she's back! She shot Sidhe!" Mouse's voice soared upwards in a grief stricken wail, and then another bullet ricochetted inside the room and she cowered back into the wall. Fafnir growled in anger, and bit at the air.

I want to kill her. She shot the little brat. Another bullet whizzed in over their heads and Fafnir yelped and dropped closer to the floor.

"Come on out, Mouse. The cat's at the hole, and you have to come out soon." Christina's mocking voice drifted in through the gaps in the door.

Isaac

"Oh gosh... don't worry Mouse, help is on the way!"

Isaac hang up and started towards the front door, then he paused and headed to Taylor's room.

"Tay! Mouse is in trouble! Alien hunter at her door. Sidhe's been shot."

MOuse and Christina T

Christina shoved at the door with her shoulder. It moved. "Finally, some progress." Mouse could only watch in fear as the lounge moved in jerks away from thre door, the mancing barrel of the rifle a good reason for not moving. But if she stayed here, Christina would be able to shoot her. Mouse froze.

Taylor

Taylor looked up at the door, cringing at the pain in his chest.

"I know," he said finally, trying to catch his breath, "please, help her!"

Mouse and Christina T

"You are by far the most difficult target I have encountered," Christina said almost chattily.

"I hope I am! Come in here and die, bitch!" Mouse retorted bravely. The lounge slid forward a bit more.

"I think it will be you that's dying today. You filthy alien."

Fafnir's head went up slightly. She's a hybrid. Why is she trying to kill you, if she's hybrid?

"What?" Mouse's eyes widened. "My wolf says you're a hybrid. Means you got a bit of that filthy alien in you too."

"Shut your face!" Christina snarled. Mouse started calculating her chances of survival if she climbed out the window and jumped. But she couldn't leave Fafnir.

Isaac

Isaac hesitated.

"Okay Tay," and he ran down the hallway.

Isaac would have liked for Taylor to come with him. Surely he cared about Mouse enough to get out of his room? But then he supposed, Taylor sounded pretty bad, and there probably wasn't a lot he could do against an alien hunter.

Dang alien hunters. Why were they always -

Enough!

He raced out to his car and drove towards Mouse's house. There was a familar car out the from - the one from the other day - and the same woman was at the door. Isaac reached out telekinetically for her. He couldn't quite see the gun enough to take it from her, so he pulled the whole woman from the door instead, and gun along with her.

Christina T and Mouse

Christina yelped as she flew backwards. "Goddamn filthy aliens," She gritted out from between her teeth as she got back to her feet. "I'll deal with you, later." She ran back to the door and kicked it in before he could react, getting out of his range of sight. She shot the wolf calmly and he went down with a yelp.

"FAFNIR!" Mouse screamed, then looked up. "I can't believe how much I'm gonna kill you." She dove at the older woman, hissing and biting, basically making sure she couldn't use her gun as Mouse kicked and scratched.

Christina slammed the smaller girl in the gut, and shook her off. "Now, you got someone coming to save you. Damn. I'll have to contine this later. Hardest target ever. I wonder if this is what some big game hunters get when they hunt the same animal for years..." Mouse glared at her from the floor. "Oh, don't glare so, alien. The wolf ain't dead. Wounded, but not dead. Not yet."

Isaac

"Dang it," Isaac muttered.

He got out of the car and ran towards the house. He was almost through the door when he got a horrible sense of deja vu:

Isaac ran through the door and saw the smirking man and Myra, tied to a chair and gagged..

"So," said the alien hunter, "the alien finally arrives."

Isaac was too shocked to say anything. Oh gosh... an alien hunter. He had been found out by an alien hunter!

"Your kind of filth should not be permitted to exist on this planet!" the man declared. "And humans like her are not worthy of our race. She has been defiled by you, and now she's a sympathiser, and for that... she must die..."

"Noooo!" he cried.

But it was too late... the man had whipped out his gun and shot Myra, point blank, before he could do a thing.

Isaac crumpled on the ground.

Christina T and Mouse

Christina stared at Ike on the floor in surprise. "Well...that was surprsingly anitclimatic."

"Shut up."

Christina kicked Fafnir hard in the side, and both Mouse and the wolf yelped in pain. "Now, isn't this interesting?"

"You're a hybrid. What are you doing hunting your own kind?" Christina booted the wolf in the side viciously. Mouse cried out.

"You shut up, filth."

Isaac

Isaac had tears running down his cheeks, and he shook himself. The flashback lingered and he had problems... he saw Myra superimposed on Mouse and that alien hunter on this one.

But the gun was a gun.

He reached out and grabbed it telekinetically, and then lifted Christina in the air.

"You people are all the same," he sobbed. "You're always after me and my friends. Always. Why can't you leave them alone? Why can't you leave me alone? You took her from me! You and your kind! You took Myra from me!"

He was practically screaming now.

"Why? What the heck did I ever do to you? What did we ever do to you? Myra didn't even know! She didn't even know about aliens and you killed her! Cold blood! No reason, no reason at all!"

Christina T and Mouse

Christina hovered in the air. "Why do you think? This is our planet, and you oughtta just go back to yours. And I *never* hunt humans. Ever. My only targets are the filthy alien scum. Look at you, so brave. Holding me all the way up here." She twisted in midair, and cursed. "Aliens only. I know some hunters think humans can be infected," here Christina spat, "but no. Humans can always be redeemed. Aliens never can."

Mouse crawled over the floor to Fafnir and he whimpered. "Why did you havta shoot them though?" Sidhe was a pathetic crumpled heap on the floor, her white patches of fur slowly turning red.

"I didn't mean to shoot the cat. And the wolf would've ripped my throat out. I don't plan on dying yet." While she was talking, Christina slid her hand down the small of her back. Dexterously, she threw the knife she had secreted there for precisely this reason, at Ike's leg. The knife went in and Christina dropped to the floor, she rolled, and then dove for the window. "See ya round." Mouse heard her hit the fire escape stairs and run.

"Ike! Ike, are you ok?"

Isaac

Isaac stared at the knife protruding from his leg. He knew it hurt but he couldn't really feel it. Like life was just a distant memory. He moved his gaze up to Mouse and frowned.

"Myra? No... no you're... you're Mouse. Myra is gone. Forever gone."

He look back at his leg.

"I think... I need... a healer..."

And he collapsed.

Christina T and Mouse

"Oh god, oh god, oh god. I don't know what to do..." Mouse moaned, then she doev for the phone. Ambulance first, figure out how to answer why everyone's bleeding later. 911. "Oh god, someone tried to break into my apartment. Yes, they shot my dog, and they stabbed my boyyfriend's brother. There's blood, and she shot my cat! Uh huh..." Mouse gave her details. "Oh, please hurry! What should I do about my dog? You know a vet? Can you get them to come to the hospital. Thanks." She hung up the phone. "We'll be alright. Everything will be...fine. Ike? Ike, can you hear me? Oh, please don't die."

~*~*~*~

Christina ran, wiping off the stock of her rifle as she ran. She was really gonna miss this one...she dumped it and kept going.

Isaac

When Isaac came to he was in a hospital room. He was confused for a moment, not really remembering what happened. It was all a blur.

"I... I was stabbed..." he frowned.

Christina T and Mouse

Christina stood outside the hospital, and cursed before turning on her heel and stalking away. Damn aliens. And she'd lost her car too. Well, any good hunter knows when to get out. She'd leave this here for now...but she would be back. Any good hunter never gives up, either.

~*~*~*~

Mouse had been sedated because she wouldn't stop screaming for Sidhe. She slept uneasily now, one hand laced into Fafnir's ruff. The doctors had tried to remove the wolf, but they weren't game. Fafnir was dangerous, even with a bullet wound in him. Fafnir growled softly, on gaurd even among all the people in the hospital. Maybe more so because of all the people in the hospital.

Taylor

Taylor heard a scratching from his window sill and looked up.

"Nevyn?"

"Two-legger," Nevyn returned, jumping down onto Taylor's desk.

"Mouse needs you."

"Ike's gone to help already," Taylor had finally caught his breath.

Nevyn watched him for a moment.

"Nev'... Sidhe was shot."

The rat froze.

"Sidhe... was right behind..."

"No," Taylor shook his head, "she never made it out the window. The damn hunter shot her."

Taylor put his hand over his eyes.

"Oh man... and something's happened to Ike. And Fafnir. I can tell."

Mouse

No. She was...oh poor little kitten. Poor little brat. Fafnir will hunt the woman down and rip her throat out./ Nevyn seemed to hunch down into himself, and he cleaned his whiskers briskly. /Fafnir got singed by a bullet when I left. I don't know if anything else happened. Poor, poor Mouse. She takes it so hard when one of her special ones die...

~*~*~*~

Mouse moaned in her hospital bed, hand burying deeper into Fafnir's fur. The wolf watched the door. Where was Pack? When Pack got hurt, other Pack should come running. He whined deep in his throat and huddled closer to Mouse. Things didn't make sense...

Taylor

"Yeah well, I kinda hope Fafnir does get hold of her," Taylor agreed, hugging his knees in to his chest, "just as long as she isn't armed at the time. This is the second time he's been hit."

He buried his face into his arms.

"They're at a hospital Nev'. Maybe... You should go, make sure they're ok."

Nevyn

Fafnir's tough. Wolves are. Cats...aren't. Nevyn sniffled for a moment. Poor little one. Will you come? Can you?

Taylor

"Sidhe never had a chance," Taylor shook his head, tears coming to his eyes.

"I... I can't come. It's too early, up here," he tapped his head, "please, make sure they're ok. Let me know."

The Folk

Of course. Maybe...you'll need to tell your parents anyway. When they come home. I think I should go back, see what happened. If... Nevyn took a breath then continued, if anyone's dead, or wounded, the authorites will call. At the very least. Or Mouse will. If she can. I'll go. He clambered up to the window and then slowly and carefully made his way down.

~*~*~*~

Fafnir lifted his head and snarled at the unfortunate nurse. She left again quickly.
