Faith
Faith was bored. She hadn't run into any vampires all night, so at this rate, she was gonna go home without fighting anything. Which of course would just leave her excited. And Zac wasn't home. Damn.
A rustling in the bush to her right jolted her from her thoughts. A guy came charging out followed closely by a vampire.
"Ah lucky night."
Faith grabbed the vampire and sent it flying with a right hook. It got up again and she went a few rounds with it. Not sexually, that was reserved for Zac. She beat it up before finally raising her stake and dusting it.
"Faith?"
Faith blinked. She turned around and saw...
"Kenny?"
"Hey!" He hugged her and she shrugged him off awkwardly.
"Hi."
"Wanna go for a walk."
"Why not... come on."
"I missed you." Kenny reached for her hand but she pulled away.
"What are you doing here?"
"Had some free time... heard you were here these days, thought I might look ya up."
Faith gave a fake smile. "Wow, that's a real nice story, hits the heart, you know? What do you want?"
"I thought maybe, you know, we could work things out."
"Kenny, you're an idiot. It's been... it's been way to long and do you remember why I broke up with you in the first place?"
"Coz I was a drummer." Kenny looked confused.
"Oh yeah... well it was more that you were creepy. Coz I'm dating a drummer now, but no way I'm breaking up with him. Again."
"Oh. You're dating again."
"Yeah. Why?"
"I was just... you know, I really did miss you. Not just coz of the sex. I missed our talks."
"Yeah, coz the screaming at each other... real heartwarming."
"You're different."
"Yeah, I am."
"Who's your boyfriend?"
"None of your goddamn business, Kenny, I swear, if you don't go away, I'll have to whoop you."
"Faith." Kenny's tone became dangerously calm as he moved and whispered in her ear. "I've changed too." He stared into her eyes and collected the thoughts he needed from her head. "Thanks for letting me poke round, Faithy."
Faith shook her head, feeling weird. "What did you do?"
"Just took some information. Don't worry about... Zac, is it? Well, he'll be fine..." With a laugh, Kenny left.
Faith swore and pulled out her cell phone. She dialled Zac's number. Damn, voicemail. "Zac, it's Faith. Look, can you please stay home tonight? I'm coming over to watch your house. Don't worry."
Faith hung up and sighed, pulling her jacket tighter around her body, shuddering in the sudden cold.
She never knew that Kenny could do what he did, but now that she knew he'd taken information about Zac from her brain, she was on hyper alert. She wasn't going to let anything happen to him.
As she neared the Hansons house, she pulled her phone out again and tried Zac again.
"Zac, come on, pick up man..."
Zac
Zac was just coming into his room when he heard his phone ring. He trotted over to where it was sitting and picked it up, recognising Faith's number.
"Faithy!" he greeted. "You have no idea how good it is to hear from you. I was just getting another sex lecture from Mom. Argh. She gave it to me after Julie, and now that she knows I'm dating you - and don't care what she thinks - she's given it to me again. Argh. Once a lifetime is more than enough. Now I've had it, like, three freaking times!"
Faith
"Zac, can you promise me that you won't leave your house, no matter what you see or you hear tonight?"
Faith was sitting out the front of his house, hiding, watching for Kenny. She saw him saunter up and stand on the path.
"Zac, I gotta go babe. I'll explain this all later. I promise."
Faith hung up and tucked her phone away. She stood up from where she was hiding.
"What the hell are you doing here?"
"Just thought I'd pop in on your boyfriend... 17... a bit young, don't you think, Faithy?"
"He can hold his own."
"I'm sure, and I'm sure he holds yours too."
"That's really none of your business."
"Isn't it?" Kenny stepped closer to Faith. "You're scared."
"Not of you." Faith roundhouse kicked and Kenny fell to the ground. He jumped back onto his feet.
"That wasn't very nice." He kicked her in the stomach and she went flying back.
"Neither was that... my turn." Faith grabbed his arm and snapped it back before elbowing him in the face.
"I don't wanna fight you, Faith."
"But you will, right?" Faith ducked his next punch.
"I'm more interested in your boy."
"You stay away from him. I mean it, if you touch one hair on his head, I'll - "
"You'll kill me? Like you killed all those other people? Oh yeah, Faith, I know all about it. Besides, I thought you were working for redemption?"
Faith snarled. "I'll make an exception. You touch Zac, then I'll kill you. I don't care. Times up, the rules have changed."
"Yeah, they have, and you know what?" Kenny kicked Faith back so she was lying in the Hanson's front yard. "Looks like I got the upper hand."
Faith weakly got up. "You're not going to get him."
"Maybe not tonight... but you can't watch over him all the time." Kenny gave a salute and left. Faith swore and pulled her phone out again.
"Zac? Me again..."
Zac
"Hey, Faithy, what can I do for ya? And why the interest in me not leaving the house?" Zac asked.
Faith
"Well... ok, don't panic." Faith looked around again and held her ribs gingerly. Damn, broken again. And Paige had just healed them too. She felt her blood dripping down the side of her head.
"This guy, I know, Kenny, I used to go out with him... he's turned up and it looks as though he's an alien, because he managed to steal information about you from my mind. So he's after you, because he wants me back, and that's not gonna happen. I fought him tonight, and he's gone for now. But I'm gonna watch your house tonight, so you're safe, because I'm not gonna let him hurt you." Faith drew in a long pained breath. "And I'm also gonna call for Paige in a second."
Faith's head began to ache and she dropped the phone and fainted.
Zac
"Faith? Faith?" Zac called into the phone worriedly.
He ran upstairs, and peered through the window, trying to spot Faith. Not seeing her, he flung open the front door and ran outside to look for her.
Faith and Kenny
Kenny grinned as he watched Faith fall. His smile grew wider as he watched Zac come out of the house.
Stepping out of the shadows, he stood over Faith's body. He looked down at her then up at Zac.
"Well, you must be Faith's new lover. You're a drummer right? She dumped me coz I was a drummer, so I'd watch out..." Kenny bent down and slapped Faith hard. "Wake up, come on girlie."
"Wha?" Faith opened her eyes and looked around. She saw Kenny then saw Zac.
"Zac go back inside!" Faith got up slowly and she begged Zac with her eyes to go inside. "Please, go."
"No, stay out and play... or is it past your bedtime?" Kenny grinned evilly, before kicking Faith across the street. Her back slammed into the street light. She lay in a crumpled heap on the ground, before getting up and spitting ot some blood.
"Remember, touch him, and you die."
Zac
"Hmm, I'm getting the impression this is the guy you're worried about," Zac said drly.
He turned to Kenny.
"I don't appreciate people who hurt people I love. But I have a perfect way of dealing with the likes of you."
And on that he cryogenicially froze Kenny. Satisfied, he ran over to Faith.
"Are you okay? Well, I suppose that's a stupid question..."
Faith
Faith hugged Zac, then playfully punched him.
"I told you not to come outside."
She kissed him softly.
"I love you, baby. Go inside, I'll take him away and dump him somewhere. And I'll give you a call tomorrow."
Faith caught the look on Zac's face. "Don't worry, baby, I'll be ok. No aruging."
Zac
Zac kissed her, and then sighed.
"Fine," he said. "But, some warning here, once I'm out of range, he's going to melt. And he'll be alive and everything okay? So please be careful. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if anything happened to you."
Faith and Kenny
Faith kissed him again.
"Hey, that's my job. Keeping life safe for you. I'll be ok, I will call you tomorrow, ok? I love you."
Faith waited until Zac was through his front door then turned her attention back to Kenny. He was already thawing. Better get him out of here then. She lay him on the ground, and dragged him along by his legs.
When they were a block away, she felt a tug. Faith turned around to see Kenny standing on his feet.
"Oh jeez."
"That's right. And for that little trick, you're in trouble." Kenny kicked Faith against a fence and kicked her legs out from under her, before slamming her head in the ground, knocking her out.
