24 April 2003 - Avoidance...

Faith

Faith lay on her bed, unable to move without pain. After her confrontation with Diana, she went out hunting, found some demons and let them beat the hell out of her.

Hey, it was easier than being sad.

The only problem now was, staying away from Zac. Without him knowing that was what she was doing.

Zac

Zac knocked on the door of the mansion. He had been duly informed that Faith had gotten a beating yesterday, so he wanted to come over and see if he could do something to make her feel better.

He tapped his foot and knocked again, waiting for a reply.

Faith

Faith got up and looked out her window.

It was Zac at the door.

She knew it was now or never, so she went downstairs, hoping that maybe he would be disgusted by her bruises and cuts and want to leave of his own free will. She was going to have to be coolly detatched, but it just seemed to hard.

Faith took a deep breath and willed her tears away. When she was certain she was composed, she opened the door, turning her emotions off, like she'd done a thousand times before.

"Hi."

Zac

"Hi Faithy!" Zac said cheerfully. "I heard you had a rough time last night... and I can see it wasn't a rumour... are you okay?"

Faith

Faith nodded, ready to close the door.

"Yeah, it was great and all that. I better get goin, so..."

Zac

"Getting beat up was great?" Zac asked confused.

He paused.

"Well, I came over to see if you were okay... Umm... sorry if I disturbed you..."

Faith

Faith could feel herself crumbling, she was going to have to hurt him.

"Yeah, you kinda did."

She hardened the shell around her heart and straightened up.

"Look, the last couple days, they've been real fun and all, but I was thinking maybe it was time we, you know, gave it up."

Zac

Zac stared at her, the colour draining from his face.

"I... I umm..." he gulped. "You... you sure? Because I thought..."

Faith

Faith blinked her tears away, knowing that this was best. His mom was right, she was going to end up hurting him.

"Yeah, look, we had a blast, you know? But, I think..." Faith cursed inside as a tear trickled down her cheek. She moved her hand up and brushed it away impatiently. "I think it's time we called it quits."

Oh god, why did this hurt so much?

Zac

Zac chewed his lip. He didn't say anything in reply - he was a little afraid of what he might say. He simply nodded, dug his hands in his pockets and walked slowly back to the van, his head bowed. Though he tried to fight them he could feel tears pricking at his eyes.

Faith

Faith closed the door after watching Zac leave. She ran down to the basement and began to punch and kick the crap out of her punching bag.

"Goddammit, why the hell does this hurt so much?!"
