Diana
Diana was doing the grocery shopping. Grocery shopping for nine people was no mean feat. Although it could be a meat feast... erm, yes well, moving right along.
Diana was walking down the asiles with her shopping trolley, picking off what she needed off the shelves when her eye caught a familar face.
Faith.
Faith
Faith was browsing around by herself, wondering where Paige had run off to. They were meant to be shopping for basic party supplies for Piper who was organising another party at P3.
She looked around when she suddenly saw Diana.
"Oh hell..." Faith mumbled under her breath.
Diana
Diana's lips pressed tightly together in a thin line as she saw what Faith was wearing. Tight black pants. A black bra showing through her white shirt. A tattoo! One thing was for sure, she was glad she put a stop to Zac's relationship with her.
Diana knew that Faith had seen her. She could feel the change of emotion coming from her.
"Good day Faith," Diana said pleasently.
Faith
Faith caught Diana checking out her outfit and she tossed her hair back.
"Well, hi there Mrs Hanson. Nice day, isn't it?"
Faith wanted to leave... either that or just punch the wall, but she thought this probably wasn't the best way to get to know Diana.
Diana
"Yes it is," Diana replied. "My, you're looking a little skinny, Faith. I think you need a bit more meat on those bones. Too little food and too much, ahem, exercise isn't good for you, you know."
Faith
Faith smiled sweetly. "Well, the training and the slaying keeps me pretty fit."
She glanced around on the shelves, feigning disinterest. "How's everyone been?"
Diana
"Everyone's fine," Diana answered. "Did you hear, Zac has a new girlfriend now. Lovely girl, by the name of Caitlin."
Faith
"Really? Wow, that's mighty interestin. Good for him and all that." Faith was groaning inwardly, she was struggling to keep the truth hidden.
Diana
"Yes, indeed. And I would thank you not to provide him with any..." Diana looked her up and down, "distractions."
Faith
Faith cracked her knuckles, still itching to hit the wall. She sighed.
"Look, I'm not going to hurt... you know what? Never mind. It doesn't matter, coz you're never going to accept me. I'm not seeing Zac, ok? I'm glad he has Caitlin, I really am."
Diana
Diana nodded. What with the level of hostility coming from her, she was glad she had put a stop to this.
"Good, I'm glad to hear it," she said. "Good day, Faith."
And Diana went on her merry way.
Faith
Faith rolled her eyes. She knew she had to work this thing out, otherwise she'd never be allowed near Zac. Well... even more.
She followed Diana and met her face to face.
"Ok, I have to know, what did you mean when you said I'd cause 'distractions'? What do you find so offensive about me?"
Diana
Diana considered the emotions coming from Faith.
"Faith. I'm sure you're a nice girl, but let's face it, you go around killing vampires for a living. What kind of job secuirity is that? And what's more I imagine the risk it quite high. I'd hate for Zac to fall in love with you, and then for you to die on him. And of course, anyone being in a relationship with you must make them a target for anyone with a grudge against you. Which I imagine would mean the entire vampire community. Besides, I know a slut what I see - and sense - one. He's a sensitive boy. He doesn't need you cheating and he certainly doesn't need your influence! It's bad enough he got Julie pregnant, he doens't need you getting him into bad habits again. Do you want me to go on?"
Faith
Faith paused. She knew that most of what Diana said made sense, but she needed a chance to defend herself.
"First of all, killing vampires for a living? Hardly, it's destiny, so getting a job is very high on the priority list. And secondly, so what? Yeah, I kill vampires, but that makes life safer for everyone, and I've saved the world, so doesn't that put me in the plus column? Thirdly, aren't we all going to die anyway? Taking an existential look of life, aren't we born to die? Honestly, one of Zac's other girlfriends might die too, so it's not just me. And I can protect Zac, ok? I wouldn't let him be a target, and if it came down to that, I would die saving his life, because that is what I do. I know it's not the ideal job, but isn't it worth something?"
Faith took a deep breath before starting again.
"Ok, so maybe you have a point about the slut thing. But honestly, I'm not that bad, ok? I had some bad breaks in my life, and as a result, yeah, turned to short term, rather than long term relationships, but if I was with someone like Zac, I wouldn't cheat. I'm not that sort of person. I'm not going to get him in trouble, ok? I respect him, and I respect your family."
Faith stepped back slightly. "Maybe, yeah, I'm not the best choice for Zac. But I never said I was. There are probably lots of girls out there who would be a better match with Zac and..." Faith stopped mid sentence and realised that what she was saying was true. She shouldn't be with Zac. He was just going to get hurt.
"Look, I'm sorry I even brought it up. You don't have to worry, I'm not going to see Zac anyway."
Diana
Diana nodded. She tentatively put a hand on Faith's shoulder.
"I'm sorry, Faith, but we both know that Zac can do better. And besides, he's still young. With his whole life ahead of him..." Diana trailed off, feeling nothing more neede to be said. "Good bye, Faith, and have a lovely day."
Diana pushed the trolley into the next aisle and went on with her shopping.
Faith
Faith nodded, feeling tears well up in her eyes as she realised she had to stay away from Zac. As much as it hurt, it was for the best, because otherwise he'd be drawn into her world of pain and hate.
She couldn't stand the thought of never seeing him again, but the realist in her tended to know it was the best thing and it had to be done.
