Nathan, Chelsea and Cain

Nathan had taken Chelsea into the city, to teach her, to hone her gift. Show her the colours that flooded their senses. How to ride them. How to control them, a little so you see what you want, not what you're forced to. Good people, bad people. Mutants. An occasional flicker he'd found meant alien. Demons. Humans. All of them just people. Sunlight. Central Park. They did the tourist thing. The art galleries were something spectacular when seen through their eyes. Light glimmering and shards of prismatic rainbows dancing through the paint. Feelings linked to the paintings and other artworks, from audiences and from the artists. Chelsea watched in wonder.

Nathan grinned. He liked this. This was good. As always, his hands were occupied with his pack of cards, shuffling and sliding. He saw people's futures flicker around them and didn't say a word. It wasn't his place to tell, and they probably wouldn't want to know. He just shuffled his cards and smiled enigmatically while Chelsea chattered away beside him. He liked listening to her voice. It was soothing. They got smiles back too, the small man who kept his face hidden except for an occasional flashing smile and the young red haired girl at his side.

"So, what next? This is so cool!" Chelsea said happily. "I liked LA, but I love New York. Can we do lessons like this some more?"

"You like this?"

"Yeah, it's pretty cool, Nathan."

"Good." They walked on in silence. "You hungry? Mind's walker gave me some money, little red."

"Why do you call everyone by different names? You call the Llewlyns Castor and Pollux, the Edgerton-Smythes blondie and princess, Nyx is cat, Logan is warrior, Scott is the annoyance, Jean is the snoop, Professor Xavier is prof or something about his telepathy, I'm little red...why don't you call us by our names?"

"I do. Names that describe. I think different, you know that."

"Yeah." They made their way through the crowds. "Somehow I have noticed that fact, yes."

Nathan chuckled. "I am insane, little red."

"And somehow, I managed to notice that too."

Nathan laughed loudly. Somehow she managed to make him feel normal. "You're good for me."

"Glad to hear it." Chelsea smiled up at him. They disappeared into the flow of the city's pedestrian traffic, not sensing the eyes that glared beams of hatred at their backs.

Why do you hate them so? Cain was getting used to Loki talking to him at odd moments.

"I hate them because I can. Do I need a reason? Because they're there. Becuase they breathe. Becuase they aren't in pain."

You are very amusing.

"So happy to help."

Why don't you attack again?

"Not in the mood. Need to do a bit more work."

Do you need more of my help?

"I think you've done enough, really. I have enough magic, it's the other side that's taking a bit longer." Cain ran his hand pver his chin. "Need a few more guns. Got a few things coming in. I'm about ready though. I intend to cause more death this time round."

I await your reappearance with bated breath. Cain felt Loki leave with a sense of relief. Sharing your mind with someone else, especially when that someone was a god, was disturbing.
