3 April 2003 - First day of school

Martha and Becky

Martha and Becky chattered happily in Dutch as they walked into kitchen. Putting on their aprons, they got to work.

"Martha, I honestly don't know how these people survived, nobody can cook here. I've been cooking foreverybody, but it will go faster with you here to help."

"Oh yes, Becky, many hands make light work."

"And how is Oma, is her rheumatism flaring up?"

"It was, but her tea helps,"

"Oh, I've been making the tea for a man here, who has been very sick. He won't let anybody heal him, even though he is in great pain, so I've been making him willowbark tea for the pain."

"Oh yes. When is our first class?"

"It's at 8:00, so we still have several hours. I do not know how anybody can sleep so late. They get up at 7, or 7:30, and they complain about it being too early, while we are all out of bed and dressed at 5."

"We must cut them some slack, Becky, they are not used to life as we are. Those girls, cutting their hair, and leaving it down, can you believe it? Although, now that we are here, and taking our fling, I think I may uncover my hair." Martha said, seriously. Becky looked hesitant.

"I know that I would like to, and maybe dress English, but I am not sure. Let's think about it." They continued preparing food for the day, and then went up to class, where they sat down in the back and continued to speak Amish.
