29 March 2003 - Spending Saturday

Isaac and Miette

After breakfast on Saturday, Isaac and Miette went out. They were planning on spending the whole day out and they didn't realyl care what they did as long as they were together. Isn't that sweet?

They went to the park again and then headed to the local shopping centre. They windows shopped for a bit and then had lunch. Lunch was followed by a movie, and then they looked around the shops some more.

"Say," a girl said, approaching them, "are you Isaac Hanson?"

"No," Isaac replied in a fake English accent. "But I get mistaken for him a lot.

The girl gave him a weird look.

"Aren't the Hanson's in America?" Miette asked her. "What would they be doing here?"

The girl shrugged and walked off. Miette giggled.

"Oh man... Ike... that was just..."

"What?"

"I'm sorry, sweetie, but your rendition of a British accents sucks."

Isaac grinned and shrugged.

Soon it was time for them to return home and Isaac insisted on Rowena having a break while he cooked the family dinner.

"Why are you cooking dinner?" Duke asked him. "That's girl's work!"

"Says who?" Isaac asked.

"Says everybody."

"Oh really? Well, I'll have you know that a lot of men cook. In fact there are some men who can cook even better than women."

"I don't believe you."

"You don't have to believe me, but it's the truth. And besides, I hear Jason lives somewhere with only male flatmates."

"So?"

"So I bet they all have to cook for themselves sometimes."

Duke scruched up his face, thinking about this. Then he watch Isaac using his telekinesis to use.

"That's really cool!"

"It's a lot of fun too."

"I wish I could do that," Duke sighed. "It's no fair. You have powers and Mi has powers and Oli has powers, and the Morris's all have powers. Why can't I have a power?"

Isaac smiled.

"Ahh, but I hear you do have a power."

"I do?"

"Yes. I hear you like to act and dance and sing."

"Yeah, so? That's not a power."

"Ahh, but being able to entertain people isn't something just anyone can do. Some people get really nervous going on stage."

"I get nervous sometimes."

"But have you ever been so nervous you were too scared to go on out there? Or thrown up on stage when you did?"

"No."

"Do you get great big rounds of applause when you're finished?"

"Yes."

"And I see you've won lots of awards and things."

"Yep! I win lots of stuff!"

"See? You have a fantastic talent there, Duke. Sure there are other people who can do those things, but there are heaps who can't and some that can't do them as good as you can. Just like there are lots of aliens who have these kinds of powers," he gestured to his telekinesis in progress, "but some of us can do things others can't and some can do things better than others."

"Like you can move objects around and Mi can do stuff with light, and Oli can do things with fire?"

"Yep."

"So... I am just like you guys!"

Isaac grinned.

"Yes, in a way, you are."

"Yay!" and Duke bounded off.

"Don't you dare start dancing in the nude!" Rowena warned. "I'll train some modesty into the boy yet. You'd never guess he was 12."

Isaac laughed.

Dinner, as expected, was a huge success and everyone (including Sam, although he chose not to admit it ina nyway) was pleased with the result. Isaac and Miette played a game of scrabble and then they went to bed.
