Taylor
Taylor breathed evenly as he gazed out across the suburb. It had been his only view since he'd first been brought here, after the fire. After Christian had taken over.
Leaning his folded arms on the railing, he leant his chin on his arms. He tried not to think. Thinking only led him into either anger or sadness - neither being appropriate for his position. He'd learnt that the hard way of course.
Closing his eyes for a moment, he imagined being home. At this time he and his brothers would probably have band practice, being mid- afternoon. Either that or going out with friends, or just generally hanging out.
He remembered beginning to teach Avery the harmonica. Where was she now? He could only guess that since Christian was in his place she'd be safe at home. Hopefully with nothing to worry about on her mind. He hoped that Jess would be awake by now too. The sisters could probably look after each other then.
And of course he wondered if Zac had told Julie what he had to or not.
With a sigh, he buried his face in his arms. He'd give almost anything to be anywhere but where he was.
The Eye
He watched Taylor. Was now the time? He hoped so.
The Eye had before him a piece of paper, and on it was written the inscription that had been on the thunder box. Whatever it said, the Eye did not know. Whatever had possessed the Spider to put it on the thunder box was anyone's guess. But now he would find out.
"Taylor? Can you come over here please. I have something I would like you to interpret."
Taylor
Taylor didn't hear the voice at first, but something itched the back of his mind that made him look up and turn around. He saw the man watching him, and thought he must have called.
Taking one last look out at the view he'd come to know so well, he turned and made his way inside - careful not to look him in the eyes.
The Eye
"I know your power allows you to interpret anything. Interpret this," The Eye said, handing him the paper.
Then he sat back in his chair and simply watched.
Taylor
Taylor glanced up at him again, his fingers quivering as he held the sheet.
As he looked at the sheet of paper, he saw a number of symbols before they dissolved into plain English, including a diagram or two. His eyes scanned the paper as he read it over.
When he reached about halfway, he dropped it and backed off.
"N-no," he shook his head, eyes wide, "oh man... no, no..."
The Eye
"What?" The Eye demanded. "What does it say?"
He stood up.
"Tell me!"
Taylor
Taylor stepped backwards and in his rush tripped over the small coffee table.
"N-no! I can't! I can't..." he shook his head, retreating to the wall where he closed his eyes and cringed, afraid of being hit.
The Eye
"You have to tell me!" The Eye yelled. "I have to know! Tell me!"
No, no, no, no, no, no, no. he hadn't waited this long for it to be denied him now!
Taylor
"I CAN'T!" Taylor cried desperately, trying to quickly erase the thought from his mind.
He put his hands over his eyes and rocked back and forth, trying to block everything out. He needed out. He needed people he knew. He needed to be home. Not here. Not doing this...
The Eye
The Eye grabbed Taylor by the shoulders and shook him.
"Stop it!" He yelled. "Tell me, Taylor, tell me!"
This was not happening. It had been years and this was the closest he had been. He was not going to miss out now!
"Tell me!"
Taylor
Taylor couldn't stop the tears forming in his eyes as he shook his head.
He realized he had to tell someone. But that someone would have to be someone he trusted well enough to do the right thing. Who knew what this guy would do with the information?
He needed to warn the YIRAAS. He needed to warn his family. Anyone. Anyone on the 'right side'.
The Eye
"I hear you," The Eye growlled. "Understand? I hear you!"
He slapped Taylor acroos the face.
"You aren't going to get to YIRAAS! You have to go through me!"
Taylor
"Oh GOD!" Taylor cried, cringing from the hit.
He held his face as he looked away, squeezing his eyes shut. The use of telepathy on him was giving him a headache again, and if that wasn't bad enough the Eye was practically in his face.
He tried to edge away, desperate to get away. There was no way he could tell, and he could only hope he'd almost forgotten what was on there. He thanked his lucky stars he'd only read about half.
The Eye
The Eye growled and cursed himself. He knew his telepathy had been bady abusing Taylor's mind. He had to be careful or Taylor wouldn't have a mind left and he would be right back where he started again.
He had to know what it said!
He picked Taylor up and threw him into his room.
"In here you stay. No food, no water, no nothing, until you're willing to talk."
He locked the door.
Taylor
Taylor gulped and closed his eyes, just glad to be away from him.
He backed into the corner farthest from the door, brought his knees in to his chest, and hugged his legs buring his face in his arms.
"Go away... Go away..." he softly willed both the pain and the memory.
He quickly calculated in his head. He could last maybe five days without water.
That was if he didn't kill himself first.
The Eye
The Eye scrowled. He glared at the room, picked up a glass and threw it against the wall. So close! He was so close! He needed to come up with a new plan.
And fast.
