14 March 2003 - Strange Days at Mutant High

Dawn, Kitty, Theresa, Rachel, Ducky and Scott

It was a Friday. Fridays always take forever to get through, because the weekend fast approaches. Dawn Summers found that after, about 3 weeks, she was finally starting to fit in at 'Mutant High.' Plus, Fridays, always a plus, because it meant that Clark would be coming up for a visit after school. Since it was still winter, there was too much snow to allow for many chores, so Johnathon had given him permission to come visit on weekends, once his homework was finished. Dawn tried to concentrate on Chemistry, but it just wasn't working.

"Dawn? Do you know the answer?" Dr. Hank McCoy, AKA the Beast, asked, gently skaing her out of her daydream.

"Um, I think it's H2So4."

'"Yes, that would be correct, you may go back to your daydream now," Dawn blushed, and Kitty giggled. She was also expecting a male visitor this weekend. Lance was coming in from the city and taking her out on a real date. After some time to heal, they decided t hat they wanted to try again, only more slowly this time.

Theresa sighed, trying to pay attention. All of her friends had dates this weekend. Rogue was probably going to the movies with Bobby, Jubillee and St. John were going to 'train.' Dawn was spending the weekend with Clark, and Kitty had a date with Lance. That left just her. She thought that there might be something between her and Sabre, but when she tried to talk to him, when he first came back, he said that he and Dru were going away for a while. Theresa knew it was for the best, none of them were really safe with an insane vampiress around, and the new girl, Chelsea, seemed to be like catnip for the woman. But still, it stung. Wasn't she going to get a chance?

-----

Rachel Evan hesitated as she walked up the front steps of the large mansion, a red-tailed hawk flying beside her.

*It's just a visit, Rachel, just to see if we like it,* Tobias said in her head. She had been having so much trouble at the Catholic school recently, and she'd just been so stressed out.

"Right, just a visit, don't have to come if I don't want." Rachel tried to reassure her. Looking out of the corner of her eye, she say a flighty-looking girl, with large wings darting behind pillars trying to get a good look at them, without behing spotted.

*Rachel, somebody's speaking Hawk language to me, and I think it's that girl.*

{HI, my name is Tobias,} he said in Hawk, PWill you come out long enough for my friend and I to meet you?} Taking a deep breath, Ducky walked out from behind the pillar.

"HI I'm Daphne, you can call me Ducky, though, everybody does. I don't trust very well, Professor says it's 'cause ducks don't trust, and he's right, I also don't think I talk right, but that's 'cause I was raised by ducks. You're a bird, but you're not a bird, Somebody told me about you, you're animorphs right?" Ducky chattered, the way one would expect a bird to do. She hardly seemed 22 sometimes. She had just been so mentally and emotionally scarred in her past.

"Hi Ducky, I'm Rachel. Yeah, we're animorphs. Tobias is a nothlit now, stuck as a bird, he's gotten used to it now. Do you go to school here?"

"I did, I'm almost done now. I had a lot of catching up to do, 'cause I never went to school, and even though I'm 22 I'm still nearly done with high school. Grew up in the woods, didn't have a lot of science class on the lake. I'm not really a bird, though, I'm half Dathrian and half 3rd-generation mutant. Sorry I babble so much, I think that's the gulls influence," she laughed, nervoulsy, her eyes darting from side to side.

"Would you like to meet the Professor now?" She asked them.

"Yes, please, " Rachel said, and Tobias nodded, as he perched on his ex-girlfriend's shoulder. Ducky led the way, chattering thoughout the entire walk.

Scott tried to focus as he taught some of the younger students how a carbuerator works. He was somehwhat glad that Sabre and Dru were leaving. As much as Dawn cared for them, they made him feel uneasy, and he felt that he was the one who should be watching after his cousin. Now if only he could get rid of Spike, however souled vampires seemed to be very intent on keeping promises they made to Buffy. And if Spike promised that he's watch over her until he became dust, then he would. Scott had to give the vampire props for loyalty. Some things would never make sense to him.

Nathan and Chelsea

Nathan yawned, head drooping down onto his chest as he watched Chelsea from under lowering eyelids. He wasn't getting much sleep staying here, and even though the professor insisted, he'd havta go and sleep out in the woods. He could dodge whatever it was that had scared the Llwelyns so, he bet. Chelsea was tapping away at a computer in the library, researching. His head snapped up. New people at the Mansion, hey? And all these lovely little pairings off. He was just glad Drusilla had left. Man, he detested vampires. Even Spike ensouled made him edgy. Wrong. The demons screamed wrongness and blood. He coughed, the constant hacking that seemed to stay with him no matter what medicines he took. Chelsea looked up. "Work. I'm fine."

"So you say...but you can't fool me. I can see it, running through your body."

"Yeah, I'll teach you and then I'll probably die." He got his cards out of his pocket and started to shuffle them, eyes unfocusing. "Looking forward to it, point of fact. Seems I'll go easier then Oracle. Vampire bite is just nasty."

"I don't know..."

"Vampire equals bad," Nathan snapped, then softened his tone. "Look, I'm sorry. I just..."

"You don't like people, I know. I can see it on you, and maybe you should really think about that." Chelsea turned back to her computer and tapped furiously at the keys. Nathan sighed then stood.

"I need to get out. Too many people. Hurts my eyes, even just them," he said and nodded over at the few students in the study room. "Flicker. That's why I stay away from mutants. We're just so much brighter, the talents, you know." Nathan started towards the door, cards sliding from one hand to another in ceaseless motion. Chelsea grabbed her bag and walked next to him. He looked down and smiled.

"I need to get away myself. What was that thing you were showing me yesterday?"

"Need to refocus your eyes and look beyond it. And learning to identify will help a lot too. Once you know what it is yo're seeing, it becomes a bit easier..." Nathan continued his teaching as they walked towards the outside.

Clark

Clark Kent smiled as he set down in the courtyard of the mansion. Dawn wasn't expecting him for hours, but he was hoping to surprise her. School had been cancelled due to snow, so he finished his homework, and set on for the Mansion. He decided to fly, since the cloud cover would stop him from being spotted, and it was faster. Looking around, he realized he hadn't yet spotted anyone he knew, so he headed to go inside.

Nyx

Nyx was humming talking to the twins and Logan when she 'heard' Clark fly in. She craned her head out the window and waved enthuastically. "Hey, electric boy! Why are you here so early?"

Clark

"Snow day," he replied, grinning. "Is Dawn about? I wanted to surprise her, she's not expecting me for hours."

Nyx, Vortigern and Mordred

"She's around. Bouncing and giggling. That's Clark," Nyx informed the twins.

"Lucky guy," Mordred said. "Dawn's sweet." Vortigern leant out of the window and looked down.

"Hello! Come up and talk, once you've said hi to your girl."

"Oh, do! Bring Dawnie too!" Nyx called down.

Dawn and Clark

Clark wandered about aimlessly until he saw Dawn looking bored out of her mind in chemistry class. Knocking on the door, he stuck his head in.

"Hi, I'm Clark Kent, I was wondering if I could join this class for a bit?"

"CLARK!" Dawn yelped, jumping up and running to him, throwing her arms around him. Hank McCoy looked quite amused at the display.

"Yes, Mr. Kent, you may join the class, if, uh, you and Miss Summers can behave yourselves." Ignoring the snickers, they sat down. Before too long, class was over, and Dawn and Clark headed out to the rec room to meet up with Nyx and the twins.

Nyx, Vortigern and Mordred

Nyx leapt to her feet and hugged Dawn hard. "Dawnie! And hey, Clark." Mordred and Vortigern were cuddled up on the couch together while Mordred watched Vortigern draw. They looked up.

"Hi. We're sorta new." Vortigern smiled. "I'm Vortigern, or Vort, and this is my twin, Mordred."

"Hey." Mordred nodded at Clark.

"Man of many silences, he thankfuly is."

"Grrrr..."

"You know you don't do that anywhere near as well as Spike does." Mordred just lifted his upper lip in a silent snarl. "That neither. I think it's to do woth the fact that you don't have fangs."

"Oh, forgot to ask! When are Mary and Siobhan coming over?" Nyx asked.

"This afternoon hopefully. And I swear to God, if that git has touched either one of them, I will teleport his head from his body. Evil stepfather," Mordred explained briefly. Nyx nodded and then jumped onto the couch.

"See, twins! I got twins. Aren't they just nummy?" Nyx leant her head aainst Vortigern's cheek and grinned. They ignored her, having gotten a bit used to it.

Clark

Clark smiled his greatest grin. "So, Dawn, which one am I supposed to kill for hitting on you?" He said, first in a deadpan, but then he burst out laughing. "Truth be told, I'd like to be able to spar with somebody who I could actually hit without killing."

Nyx, Vortigern and Mordred

"Not me. Still of the walking wounded." Vortigern stretched his arms. Go for Nyx. She's the spar master."

"You say the nicest things!" Nyx purred. "But shouldn't that be mistress?"

"Mistress Nyx. Spar mistress of the dojo." The twins snickered, and Nyx pouted. "Mistress of pain!" Vortigern added before whooping with laughter.

"Been there, done that," Nyx chirped. "Mwahahaha! I am the mistress of the world! No, scratch that. Mistress of the coffee!" She started to bounce around the room, and the twins regarded her with fear.

"Who gave her coffee? Who was the stupid, stupid person who let her near the coffee pot without supervision?" Mordred asked, and Nyx laughed evilly again.

Kitty, Theresa and Clark

Theresa and Kitty wandered into the rec room, and notice Nyx boucning around, "Oh dear Mab, who gave her coffee?" Theresa asked groaning. Kitty scooped uo Lockeed, who was trailing behind her.

"Clark, like, have you met Lockheed yet? He's an alien too!" Kitty handed the dragon to Clark, wo tentatively picked him up. Lockheed gleefully attacked Clark, nuzzling his face and licking him.

"Um, interesting pet you got there Kitty," Clark said, trying to detatch Lockheed from his face, as the girls all giggled. Suddenly, Lockheed pounced on Vortigern, sticking his pointed mouth in Vort's ear.

Nyc, Vortigern and Mordred

"Gah! Very, very disgusting," Vortgen told the dragon firmly as he detached it from his head. Mordred snickered, and Vortigern glared at him.

"Someone's got an admirer..." Mordred sing songed.

"Sod off."

"Ah ha! I knew I'd get you one day." Mordred said gleefully. "Corrupted you, I have."

"Come to the Dark Side of the Force, my son!" Nyx giggled and clappe her hands. "Funniest movie, ever."

Theresa and Kitty

'Dude, like, Star Wars, not funny, bnut very wonderful. Like, the funniest movie eve4r is the parody. Haven't you ever seen Spaceballs?" Kitty asked, and she and Theresa began to giggle. "May the Schwartz be with you!" they sang at the same time.
