10 March - A Night of Change

Kirk

Kirk had managed to find a small amount of black hair dye that a mate had given him some time ago, and now stood in front of a broken mirror in a public bathroom holding it in his hand.

Setting it on the sink, he grabbed a razor.

"See ya soon mate," he grinned, shaving off his moahwak - bar the very front.

The fuschia colour of it was getting annoying. Running his fingers over his mostly bald head, he grabbed the dye and proceeded to die the front part of his hair black.

After the process and finally rinsing his hair out, he shook his head splattering water everywhere and checked that no one was around. Pulling the hair over his face, he placed the tips of his fingers at the roots of his hair. With a grin, he slowly began to run them down the centre of his head, feeling the hair duplicate and embed in his skin.

When he'd finished, he now had a new black mohawk... though not standing up. Looking in the mirror and moving his head side to side, he considered the new style.

"Nah..."

Carefully, he replaced his fingers on his head and traced them over the bald sides. Hair finally grew over his whole head. Once he'd done that, he stopped again to admire his work. A grin grew on his face. He certainly looked different. He just had an urge to change his appearance every now and then.

Putting a finger to his eyebrow, he flinched as he duplicated his eyebrow ring. He already had enough earrings covering his ears, and rings on his fingers.

He threw the rest of the dye in the nearby bin, grabbed his trench coat, and left the bathroom.

On his way outside, he bumped into someone.

"Hey! Watch where you're going, punk," the guy glared.

"Sorry," Kirk apologized.

He'd touched and duplicated one of the guys' large gold necklaces. Probably real gold too. As the guy went into the bathroon, Kirk grinned and slipped the necklace over his head.

Then he checked both ways down the street before putting his coat on and making his way across the road.

Faith

Faith had been walking around for the last hour. After the ordeal at The Spider's, she needed to be alone. She'd lost it again, but why? Something inside her had snapped, she'd felt it, and she'd felt her sense of reason disappearing from her body.

As she rounded the corner, she thought she heard something and was about to dismiss it when she realised she was sensing a vampire. Faith grinned savagely. She was going to beat the hell out of it and work through some issues.

Kirk

Kirk made his way down a dark alley between two brick buildings. The moon never found it's way into the alley, so he knew he had to be careful. But living on the streets for so long gave him a keen sense of hearing and scent... as opposed to sight.

It was his ears that picked up on the intruder first. Freezing, he moved his nostrils to get a better scent. Damn vampires. They were so annoying.

Hearing the vampire breathing a few feet behind him, he spun around and knocked it's feet out from underneath it.

Amazingly, he didn't have a stake on him at the time...

Faith

Faith saw someone fighting the vampire and she rushed in, worried that the person didn't know of their kind. She got there just as the vampire stood up, and the guy was backing away. The vampire looked at her and cocked her head.

"Slayer."

"Vampire." Faith charged at it, knocking it around some on the ground. The vampire got the upperhand and rolled on top of Faith. She struggled to get the stake out but she finally did and staked it, standing up, brushing the dirt off her pants.

Kirk

Kirk raised his eyebrows as he stood and dusted himself off.

"Well... you certainly seem to know what you're doing around a vamp," he chuckled, "especially for a girl."

Then he cursed as he felt where his hand had landed on a piece of glass from a broken window.

"Lucky me didn't have a damn stake. I shoulda known better," he went on, shaking his hand and letting the blood splatter.

Faith

Faith raised her eyebrows at the girl comment. She noticed his blood and ripped the bottom of her t-shirt.

"Here." She wrapped the makeshift bandage around his hand.

"I do alright... for a girl. I'm a vampire Slayer."

Kirk

"Slayer?" he raised his eyebrows.

"What, there's a ctually a job going for people who kill the bastards? How much are they paying ya?"

He flinched as she pulled the bandage tight.

"And I'm guessing you're not from around here. I know these streets pretty well and I haven't seen you before."

Faith

"Yeah. Well I'm not getting paid actually Which kinda sucks. It's more a destiny thing. Chosen one and all that."

Seeing Kirk's expression she thought she better do the whole speel.

"One girl born in all the world with the strength and the skill to hunt the vampires, to stop their evil spread, blah blah. Wasn't so keen on it before, but you get used to it."

Faith finished the bandage. "There. And no, I'm not from around here. I just sensed the vamp and followed it."

Kirk

"One?" Kirk couldn't help snorting a bit, "betcha couldn't handle twenty of the beggars at once."

He rubbed his hand a little.

"Name's Steel," he introduced himself, holding out his other hand to shake hers, "born in Tulsa and have always been in Tulsa. Since you know about vamps I guess you know about Daths."

Faith

"Well, actually there's more than one of us now. But anyway. And yeah, I do know about them."

Faith looked the guy up and down, trying to decide whether she liked him enough to keep talking to him. Or to bed him. Either way. She wasn't sure.

Kirk

"Good. I'm a hybrid Dath. Duplicator."

He reached out to her hand and tapped her bracelet.

The replica fell from his palm and he caught it neatly. Then he lifted it to what little light there was and studied it.

"Nice," he nodded, "where'd you get it?"

Faith

Faith paused for a second. She'd taken to just putting the bracelet on, forgetting where she got it. But the question brought the tears back to her eyes and she wiped them away, hoping he wouldn't notice.

"A friend who died. She gave it to me. Or left it to me."

Kirk

"Oh," Kirk didn't know what to say.

Then he shrugged and slid it onto his left wrist to join a gazillion other bracelets.

"Well that's kinda nice. I 'aint got no more friends. Everywhere I go trouble follows me. Just happened to be in a car crash last month with a friggin' pop star leaving me carless. My best bud became a vampire few years ago, that's how I know about 'em. Tried to get me he did. Staked him right in the heart and carried one round ever since."

He looked up for a moment, then continued looking the bracelet over.

"Oh by the way, vamp six o'clock."

Faith

Faith turned and caught the vampire's arm and snapped it back. She brought her leg up in a backwards kick and pulled away and brought her stake out, plunging it into his chest.

The vampire turned to dust and disappeared. Faith sighed and looked back at Kirk.

"You were saying?"

Kirk

He shrugged.

"Story over. That's my life. Well, the vamp side anyway. Got myself into a bit of trouble duplicating too."

He couldn't help but think of Taylor and Mouse and he pursed his lips.

"Kinda looking for someone. But I'll find them. No need to worry you're pretty little head over that one girlie."

She looked younger than him anyway. About 20?

"Where do you come from anyway?"

Faith

Faith was a bit taken aback by his attitude towards her. "Girlie has a name. I'm Faith. Who the hell are you?" She felt her defences going up because she was feeling irritated.

"I'm from Sunnydale. Well I was, when it existed. Now I'm staying here for awhile, and after this, I have no idea."

Kirk

"Told ya. Name's Steel."

He nodded a little.

"Nice name. Faith. Guess it would kinda suit a slayer because of destiny and stuff. I have no idea where Sunnydale is... was," he amended, "and vampire at 6 o'clock again."

Faith

Faith turned and simply staked it this time. She was tired of this guys company.

"Here, you finish them off."

She tossed Kirk her stake and walked away, heading towards the Manor, annoyed at this new person she'd just met.

Kirk

Kirk caught the stake after watching her and just shrugged.

"Thanks lovey," he called after her with a grin, thrusting the stake backwards catching a vamp who was about to jump him.

He pulled the stake out as it turned to dust, then continued on his way down the alleyway.

Faith

Faith stalked off, muttering under her breath. Technically he didn't count as a bad guy, so she couldn't kill him. She shouldn't kill him.

As she saw the Manor looming in front of her, she felt slightly better.
