8 February 2003 - A Present For Faith

Haliiwells and Faith

Paige orbed Faith back to the Manor, Faith still alive from patrolling.

"We kinda have a present for you."

"Oh... ok?" Faith and Paige walked into the kitchen to see Piper and Phoebe standing around the table, looking suspicious.

"What's going on?"

"Ok, so we know that this was a present from someone from a long time ago and it was almost like a symbollic thing... but we found it, because no matter what, you're a true warrior and no weapon can change that. Ok?" Phoebe said, rushing it out in one breath.

"You found my knife?" Faith was unsure how she felt, whether she was ready or not to touch it again, to hold it, to use it.

"Yeah. We did some looking around, and turns out Buffy kept it for you. She sent it off with Xander, who promised to give it back to you." Piper watched Faith's expression change.

"I... thank you." Faith took the Jackal and slipped her thumb into its hole, remembering the painful memories from years before.

"We thought you might like to have it for the hunt." Paige chimed in, looking left out.

"I'm going to go to bed guys. It's been a long night." Faith started to leave, still holding the knife. She climbed the stairs to her room and closed her door behind her. She placed the knife gently on the dresser, staring at it for awhile, before she had the courage to touch it again. In the solitude of her room, she let her tears fall, tears she'd never dared to let herself cry. Pictures and memories of the Mayor, her hurting people, Buffy dying, Angel biting her, flew through her head at a million miles per minute. Then it was over. Her life for the past few years was full of pain. Scratch that, her whole life was pain.

Faith pulled her pyjamas on and got into bed, her eyes hardly moving from the knife. Once the light was off, she could still see it glinting in the moonlight that shone through her window. She finally gave in and picked it up again, before putting it down, remembering Phoebe's words that a knife didn't reflect who or what she had been.
