Mouse, Priss, Nyx and Logan
Mouse wrapped her arms around her legs, hiding her face against her knees. Priss and Nyx were quietly chanting and the scent of incense filled the living room. Fafnir whined quietly and pressed his muzzle against her legs. The emotions in the house were choking and she just had to get out. She got aprubtly to her feet, lacing her sneakers up and grabbing her coat, checking for the mobile in the pocket. "I, I got to go. If," she took a deep breath, "you find anything, grab me."
Priss looked up, quiet understanding in her face. "If anything happens, I wilt send thee with them, however much it takes."
"Thanks, Priss." Mouse closed her eyes against the hot tears and fled from the house. She started to dial for a cab, and then Logan was at her side, guiding her towards a black motorcycle on the curb. "Wha, what?"
"Nyx said to drive you wherever you wanna go," he said gruffly. "Doesn't want you taking a cab, in case you can't get back easy." Fafnir growled softly at Logan as he straddled the bike. "Your wolf coming?"
"He'll catch us up," Mouse said softly as she swung on behind him. Logan nodded and kick started the motor as Mouse hid her head against his back. With a roar, they were off and Mouse tried to keep the tears behind her eyelids. Had it really been that long ago when Taylor had taken her out for lunch and they had ridden on one of the Hanson's bikes? It didn't seem like it. Logan drove in silence while she cried into his top, until they got far out of Tulsa, to a very deserted place. She got off the bike and stood there, waiting. In about five minutes, Fafnir came loping up. She took off her coat and breathed deeply.
"I'll wait here for you then?" Logan said, lighting one of his ciagrs.
"That'd be good," she said, smiling at him before putting her hands on Fafnir's head.
Pack.
Pack.
We hunt? Fafnir's thought were filled with glee.
We hunt. Mouse agreed.
Not right. Pack leader gone. A howl burst from both their lips.
But we still hunt. We are Pack. The two took off running, Mouse's mind firmly ensconced in Fafnir's so she didn't feel the prey they hunted.
A few hours later, they padded back. Blood stained Fafnir's muzzle and Mouse's hands. Logan forbore to comment as he and Mouse got back on the bike and headed back to town, although he stopped off in a public park so she could clean up. "Thanks." Mouse's voice was hoarse.
"No problem." She nodded and disappeared into the house. Logan watched her go; more then a bit worried. She was losing it fast.
Nyx looked up briefly and patted the ground next to her. "Have a nice scream out?"
"Yeah." Nyx patted Mouse's hand as the girl sat beside her.
"We'll get him back."
"Yeah." Mouse curled up in a ball and laid her head against Nyx's leg as she fell into sleep. Fafnir soon came in and wriggled his way under her arm. Nyx gave him a serious look.
"Did you have to run her so hard?"
She needs to get outside her head. Make her body hurt so her head doesn't. I'm glad I'm not a human or an alien. The wolf licked the side of Mouse's face and she sighed in her sleep.
"You and me both, wolf. You and me both." Nyx bent back to her seraching.
