16 February 2003 - Anything goes Challenge

11:00am

Ashley cracked his knuckles as he waited in line. He'd never been the first enterant, and he wasn't going to start this year. But he was only third in line.

It was normally only the first day he was shy. His first day had been the day before, so now he stood proud with a grin on his face. He'd been practicing again the night before, and found he could now go just under 5 seconds for that road train. He was definately going to use that.

He watched as the first two contestants made their way onstage, the timer started, and they began to 'show off'. He shrugged inwardly to himself. Nothing he couldn't handle. The first person was pretty slow as far as he could tell. The second was a little faster, but not as fast as him. Apart from newbies, Ashley had only two others to watch out for... and they were brothers, older than him.

Finally, it was his turn. He made his way up onto the stage, and looked to the judges for the signal. It came, and the timer started.

Taking a quick breath, he began to focus on the road train. It wasn't as good as earlier, but still under five seconds. As soon as it was formed, he shifted into a motorhome. It wasn't much smaller than the road train, but he added a trailer with two dirtbikes. Four seconds. He decided he was doing ok. From there, he began to shift down into a small volkswagon. This took longer, as it was smaller and needed some detail. Seven seconds.

For his last shape, he shifted carefully down into a small jewel case. He'd decided to vary the size, hoping to keep up speed as well - knowing the judges would take into consideration the size and shape of each object/vehicle. Placed in the case, was a diamond ring, with a more complicated structure than any human jeweller could manage. Six seconds.

He waited for a moment, to show he was finished, then slowly shifted back into himself. With a grin, he nodded to the judges, waved to the watching crowd as they gave an applause, and left the stage.

Rachel

Rachel was psyched. She'd been practicing morphing with Cassie, and had gotten unbelievably good. The only downfall was that she had to return to herself each time, and nobody else there had to, but hopefully that would add to her mystique. Taking a deep breath she began.

Concentrating, she morphed into an elephant, in 8 second, then returned to herself in 5 seconds, returning was always easy. Almost instantly, she began to shrink down to a house cat, which took about 4 seconds, and then back to herself, which took the same, and then up to a lion. The lion took about 5 seconds, then she returned to herself in 4 seconds, and then, for her last trick, she shiften into an ant, which took about 6 seconds. Returning to herself, she curtseyed, and then let the next contestant go.
