Oliver
Oliver rubbed his hands together nervously and chewed his bottom lip. He waited for the signal from the judges and started focusing on the piece of metal he was to heat.
"Breathe, breathe," he said to himself. "Slowly, slowly."
A fire sparked beneath the metal. In a few more seconds it was a little bigger.
This was insane! He had only just begun being able to control his pyrokinesis and he had entered a competition that required a great deal of control! What had he been thinking?
He shook these thought from his mind. He had to concentrate.
The fire grew. The temperature heated. It got harder to stay in control.
"Ahh!" Oliver yelped as control got away from him.
He fell to his knees and the fire flared, sadly managaing to melt the metal. Disapointed he doused the flames, nodded to the judges and walked off to the sides.
Clark
Clark was a little nervous heading into this contest. He'd only managed to melt or freeze metal before, never stop right before. But he was going to give it a try. Concentrating, he stared at the metal, and 'turned on' his heat vision. He watched, and sensed as the metal started to glow red-hot, but did not melt. Just as the metal was beginning to soften, he shut his eyes. He suddenly wondered if he should have done cold instead. Taking a deep breath, he breathed out icy breath and watched the metal get colder and colder, until it was just about to freeze. Honestly, Clark couldn't tell if it was frozen or not. Truthfully, Clark wasn't expecting to win this one, and so, he smiled, and looked at the judges who nodded and told him to sit down.
Zac
There were a couple more contestants before it was Zac's turn. When it was, he stretched his arms over his head, and stuck out his tongue in concentration. He wished he knew what type of metal it was - then he would have looked up the melting point on the internet. But he didn't know, so he had to improvise.
He increased the temperature. Looked fine to him, so he increased it some more. Still it looked okay, so he increased some more. And so the pattern went, the amount he increased by getting smaller and smaller until he decided that it wasn't worth trying to heat it up any further.
Zac stepped back, gave the judges a triuphant grin and departed to the sides.
Extremes ended soon thereafter.
