26 February 2003 - Waking Up Jess

Avery

"Ahh!"

Avery's eyes opened and she sat up, feeling like something was very wrong. She glanced at her clock, it was 8:30am. She lay back down, but then realised that she was never going to be able to sleep until she found out why she felt like this, so she got up and padded to the kitchen.

"Hmm... juice, juice, juice." She poured herself a glass and leaned against the kitchen bench, still worried. Avery put the glass down and decided to get Jess. Maybe she'd know why her dream hadn't been so good last night.

Avery made her way to Jessica's room. She knocked lightly on the door. Getting no answer, she decided that maybe she was listening to music in her headphones, so she opened the door and went inside.

Jess was lying on the bed, looking like she was still asleep. Avery wondered whether she should wake her or not, but decided that Jess had never minded before when she woke her up about her nightmares. She went to Jessica's side and shook her gently.

"Jess... Jess?" Avery frowned, Jessica was never hard to wake up. Usually you just had to walk past her door and she'd say you were making too much noise. She shook her harder this time. Still nothing. "Jess!"

Something was terribly wrong.

"MOM, DAD!"

Walker and Taylor

Walker awoke instantly, and jumped out of bed, Diana following.

Taylor heard the shouts and sat up, putting his lamp on. He heard his mother and father's footsteps running down the hall to Jess's room, glanced at Flavian, and got up himself.

Walker threw the door open to see Avie distressed, and Jess shaking in her sleep.

"What's going on?" he demanded, as Diana pushed past and ran to Jess's side.

Avery

Avery felt tears of desperation running down her cheeks.

"Oh Gosh, what's happening, mom! Dad! She's not waking up... Jess, she's lying there, help!"

Avery fell to the floor, still unsure of what was happening. All she knew is that her sister wasn't alright.

Walker and Taylor

Diana placed her hand on Jessica's forehead and looked up at her husband.

"It's something to do with dream walking, I just know it," he said quietly.

Taylor appeared at the doorway.

"What's going on?" he frowned, then spotted Jess.

"Oh my God."

He rushed over to her, and grabbed her hand.

"JESS?!" he exclaimed.

"Maybe we should get Isabel... or someone from the council?" Diana suggested softly.

"No one on the council is a dream walker," Walker shook his head, and looked to Taylor.

"Tay, can you get Isabel Evans on the phone, pronto?"

Taylor just nodded, keeping his eyes on Jess until he left the room. He ran for the phone, and dialed her number.

Avery

"Mom, Dad, what's happening to her? Is she hurt?"

Avery knelt beside her sister, slowly brushing her hair out of her eyes.

"She's going to be alright, right?"

Isabel

Isabel Evans stretched as she heard the phone ring. Stupid phone, waking her up, but luckily she had been awoken from a bad dream. She had dreamed about some really nasty guy hurting Jessica Hanson.

"Mmm, hello?" sh e said, still trying to shake the sleep out of her head.

Taylor

"Isabel!" he exclaimed, "thank God! Listen, we need your help. Something happened to Jess... in, in dream walking. We can't wake her up or anything. She's shaking and everything and Avie's going nuts. Can... can you get over here or something? It's Taylor..."

Isabel

"Oh my God, seriously? I had a dream that somebody kidanpped her last night, and I've been having bad dreams for a few days. Okay, there's a guy down the street who's a teleporter. I'll go over there as soon as I can, see if he can get me there today. I'll be there as soon as possible, okay?"

Taylor and Walker

"Thank you! Thank you so much!" Taylor rushed, before hanging up.

He paused to run his fingers through his hair, before going upstairs to Jess's room again. He saw his father still standing in the doorway.

"Did you get in touch with her?" he frowned, turning around.

"Yeah," Taylor nodded quickly, "she's... she's going over to a teleporter... um, now. She's gonna try and get here as soon as she can."

Walker nodded, putting a hand on his shoulder.

"Calm down Taylor... we can't be frantic in this sort of situation."

"Yeah I know," Taylor nodded, "I think... I'm gonna get Ike and Zac."

Walker nodded, before Taylor made his way to Ike's room to wake him up. Walker turned back to Diana.

"Isabel's coming," he informed her, "she's being assisted by a teleporter."

"Thank goodness," Diana bit her lip, her hand still on Jess's forehead.

Isabel

It was about an hour before Isabel was able to get over to Mark's house. He was still in his pajamas when he answered the door.

"Hey Mark."

"Isabel, what's wrong?"

"THere's an emergency. Jessica Hanson's been attacked in the dream realm, and I need to get to her ASAP, can you teleport me to Tulsa?"

"Well, Oklahoma's a bit out of my range, so it'll take about 3 jumps, but I can get you there. Just give me a chance to get dressed." Before long, they landed in Jessi's bedroom.

"Hey everybody, this is Mark, he's Dathrian, as well. Okay, so what's going on?"

Taylor and Walker

"Hello Mark," Walker shook the teleporter's hand before turning to Isabel.

"Avery found Jessica like this just over an hour ago, and we still can't wake her up. I'm hoping you can help us..."

He glanced at Taylor in the doorway.

"Diana's downstairs at the moment. I hope you don't mind me joining her. She's a little shaken."

"Don't worry about them Dad, I'll stay here," Taylor offered quietly.

Walker nodded to Isabel and Mark, before leaving the room. Taylor crouched by the doorway.

"So... do you have any idea of what's happening?" he asked worriedly.

Zac and Isaac

Isaac and Zac appeared at the doorway of Jess's room.

"Hey, Izzy," Zac said worriedly. "Is she going to be okay?"

Avery

Avery quickly dressed and found her father.

"Dad... I need to tell you something, I wasn't meant to tell you, because Jess didn't want anyone to get worried, but I wanted to tell... she's been having trouble sleeping and she said on my birthday that there was this other dreamwalker who was hurting her in her sleep. She said she was stronger but... I don't know."

Avery looked down at her feet, tears welling in her eyes. "I'm such an idiot for not telling you."

Walker

Walker hesitated, his brain ticking over.

"Ok. Thank you for telling me," he nodded, "could you please run up and let Isabel know? She's here to help your sister."

He glanced at his worried wife.

"If there is another dream walker, I would caution Isabel against getting too involved. Especially if he is an older, more experienced walker. If Isabel finds this to be true, I'll contact the council."

Avery

Avery ran up the stairs, her mind racing through a million thoughts a second. She approached Jessica's room and slowed down, took a deep breath and entered.

"Isabel? A few days ago, Jess told me that there had been another dreamwalker that was hurting her in her sleep... she thought she was stronger. Dad just told me you should know."

Isabel

"Well, if my dream was accurate, and they usually are, because most dreamwalkers are linked on a psychic level, then Jessi's been kidnapped while opn the dream plane." Isabel heard Diana gasp, ansd the rest of the Hansons look afraid. "Now, I'm gonna need you all to either leave the room or be very, very quet, 'cause I'm going to try and find her on the dream plane. Everybody left the room except Diana and Taylor. The rest of the family was trying to calm down Avery.

Izzy sat at the foot of Jessi's bed, cross-legged, and held onto Jessi's feet. It would be easier to find her if she had physical contact. Taking deep breaths, she willed the orbs to come to her. Looking around, she found Jess. The poor girl's consciousness was being held prisoner in a dream orb. Isabel ran to her.

"Jess? Jessi, are you okay?" She had been gagged so thatt she couldn't call any other orbs to her. Jessi's eyes widened, and she tried top yell "behind you!" but it only came out as "Mmhmm!" But Isabel saw the look of fear in her eyes, so she whipped around, and there he waws.

"Isabel Evans, I should have known they'd bring you in. Well, they can't have he r back, but you won't be able to tell them that." He lunged at her, and she dodged out of the way, wiulling herself to wake up. Isabel suddenly shot up straight, and screamed.

Isabel tried to calm down. "Yeha, I know. I just saw him, when I went into Jessie's dream. And I recognized him. It was Owen Nelson. The Dreamwalker who was kicked out of YIRAAS a couple of years ago, for misusing his powers." She looked at Diana. "Remember? He would go into women's dreams and convince them that they were in love with him, and he would also go into the dreams of wealthy people, and convince them to give him money. You see, people are the easiest to manipulate when they're asleep. That's when we're at our most vulnerable."
