Jono
Jonothon looked up as Rebekah walked past.
Hey, Bek.
He strummed his fingers across the strings if his guitar, creating a sound that was angry yet sad.
How's life?
Rebekah
"Hey Jono..."
Rebekah set her guitar case down.
"Not bad... how are you doing?"
She sat down next to him and pulled her guitar out.
Jono
Alright...
Jonothon looked thoughtful.
Can't wait to get back so I can practise these songs for real.
Rebekah
"Yeah, I wanna go into my friends studio and do a recording of the new songs," Rebekah replied.
She strummed out a softer version of the tune he was playing.
Jono
Yeah? We need to send off a few demo cd's. Jonothon said.
Actually work at getting a recording contract. Or some gigs.
He strummed a few more chords.
The life, the loneliness
The...something...of the world alone...
Rebekah
Rebekah thought for a second, and then, she strummed a softer version of what he'd just done, and sang softly.
"The life, the loneliness
The pain in a world all alone..."
She paused.
"Sorry, I changed it a bit..."
Jono
S'ok, I like that better, actually.
Jonothon rippled a few more chords, trying out her alteration.
The life, the loneliness
The pain in a world all alone
The wondering eyes of a child
In a world where trust is gone...
Rebekah
Rebekah changed the chords to go a bit higher for her, and thought for a moment.
"But no one stops to listen
And no one seems to care
It seems we're battling all alone
Because kindness is so rare..."
Jono
Jonothon nodded.
Yeah, I like that.
He sang what they had again, then started in on a new verse.
A flame in the darkness
A brief flickering light
Before the crimson tides drown it
Oh, peace is so hard to find...
Rebekah
Rebekah smiled.
"Oui."
She strummed out the tune a few times while thinking.
"But what else is there for you to take?
You've ripped away my soul
Replaced it with this emptiness
The darkness swallows us whole..."
Jono
I said I'd hold you till you died
Guess what? We're still alive
We're still alive but I think I'm dead inside
See what you've done to me now...
Jonothon made his guitar almost wail.
Rebekah
"Take my heart and rip it up
Spread the pieces round the world
Promise you can dance on my grave
I'll hide what I've become..."
Rebekah's melody could make anyone cry.
Jono
The life, the loneliness
The pain in a world all alone
The wondering eyes of a child
In a world where trust is gone
But no one stops to listen
And no one seems to care
It seems we're battling all alone
Because kindness is so rare
A flame in the darkness
A brief flickering light
Before the crimson tides drown it
Oh, peace is so hard to find
But what else is there for you to take?
You've ripped away my soul
Replaced it with this emptiness
The darkness swallows us whole
I said I'd hold you till you died
Guess what? We're still alive
We're still alive but I think I'm dead inside
See what you've done to me now
Take my heart and rip it up
Spread the pieces round the world
Promise you can dance on my grave
I'll hide what I've become
A loner and a weeper
A hider in the dark
Live your life in the light
I know what you are, and one day you'll join me
Deep in the dark...
Jonothon frowned thoughtfully, then replayed what he had just done.
Actually, that fire verse doesn't quite fit now.
Rebekah
Rebekah thought for a long second.
"Hmmm... maybe... yeah, it doesn't fit with the darkness thing... but it can be altered, I guess..."
"Somewhere in the darkness
I can sense the light
Calling me to save me
I'm all alone again tonight..."
Jono
You left me lonely and wanting again
Why do I put up with this?
I'm bleeding and battered all for your love
But it's worth it, it has to be...
Jonothon looked at Bek quizzicaly.
Rebekah
Rebekah nodded.
"Oui... zat actually reminds me of Mordred and Gwen, when zey are not so 'appy."
"You left me in the darkness
But I know I'll never learn
I'll follow you to hell and back
Because it's worth it..."
Jono
Usually they're all sweetness and light, but it's dark, underneath. Mordred's not called Wolf for nothing.
Jonothon nodded, looking solemn.
I'm almost certain he's killed someone for her at one point...but he can block me easy.
Jonothon bent his head back to what they were doing.
Blood stains my hands
So you can keep clean
Death around me and inside me
I kill for you, I bleed for you, it's all for you...
Rebekah
Rebekah nodded.
"I think zat one could be left zere..."
She paused, and strummed out a funky little ending for the song, then scribbled the notes down.
"Per'aps we could write their story into a song..."
Jono
Yeah, something like that. We'd have to talk to some of the students who'd been here for longer. Tav, maybe. Nyx if we can catch her.
Jonothon rested his head in his hand.
Now, that, was a bad thing.
Rebekah
"Oui, there is something strange about those two..."
Rebekah shook her head.
"When zey are together, I feel the strangest things, like... their love comes through very strongly, but there's fear, and pain underneath it all too."
Jono
I'm glad I can't get in their minds. Spike and Vort think healthier then they do, and Spike's a sodding demon!
Jonothon ran his hand through his hair.
Mordred really does scare me sometimes. He gets this look, you know? Like the only thing that's holding him back from killing everyone is that Gwen and Vort might care.
Rebekah
Rebekah nodded.
"He scares me too... it's almost really nervous being around Gwen, in fear of Mordred thinking you're hurting her..."
She frowned slightly.
"I can always feel how worried they are together... it's very odd."
Jono
Blood stains my hands
So you can keep clean
Death around me and inside me
I kill for you, I bleed for you, it's all for you...
Jonothon sang again.
It's all for her. Everything he does. I think she has more of a hold over him then Vort does.
Rebekah
"Which is... nice... in a psychopathic way."
Rebekah strummed her guitar lazily.
"Zey have a dark history together, from what Bobby's told me."
Jono
Yeah, Bobby would know more of it.
Jonothon strummed the chords of the song again.
I can say they scare me. They scare me a lot. I *like* them, but they still scare me.
Rebekah
Rebekah nodded.
"Agreed... from what I've been told... there isn't much he wouldn't do for her... actually, that he hasn't already done for her."
Jono
Twisted, it's just twisted.
Jonothon scratched his bandages.
They fit that song I was singing yesterday as well.
He strummed the guitar again.
Oh, oh, we belong here
Put your bloodstained hand in mine
Leave the knife there, wipe it clean on the grass
Bloodbound, bloodlust, blood, baby, blood...
Rebekah
Rebekah nodded.
"But when they're nice, it's nice."
She strummed out a new tune on her guitar, a slow, mournful tune.
"Sometimes it gets so hard to breathe
I need you right here by my side
You're the one who can make me feel
I'm living and breathing for you..."
Jono
When they're nice, it's nice. But when they're bad, it's bloody.
Jonothon picked up her tune.
Brought me out of my darkness
You make me feel like I can live again
Oh darling, how I love you
You save me from the nothing within...
Rebekah
"Please don't leave me love
I'm hurting without you
When we're apart I almost die
It rips apart my soul..."
Rebekah nodded her head slightly.
Jono
You're a lifeline in my wanderings
An anchor in my storm
You'll never know what I'd do for you
To keep you safe from harm...
Rebekah
"There's been so much pain between us
And everyday that we're apart
I feel it deep inside of me
Darling boy, I love you..."
Rebekah frowned slightly.
Jono
Mmm...doesn't *quite* scan right. Jonothon said.
There's been so much pain between us
And everyday that we're apart
I feel it deep inside of me
A tearing in my heart...
Rebekah
Rebekah nodded. "Oui, I like."
She played it over and sang it.
"They won't kill us for this, will they?"
Jono
Not if they don't know we're singing about them. Jonothon pointed out.
We can fudge it enough, I'm sure.
He strummed a slight alteration to their previous chords.
Hold me tighter, lover
I need to know you're there
Love me always, leave me never
I can't take it when you're not there...
Rebekah
Rebekah strummed her guitar gently.
"Good point..."
She let the woeful tune sound again.
"Time will pass and things will change
But I need to ask you this
Will you always feel the same
Because I fear that you will drift..."
Jono
I watch you with jealous eyes
A fear deep within my heart
Oh, don't leave me, don't leave me
I'm dead and lost within, without, without you...
Jonothon let his guitar die out gradually, then strummed a bridge.
Oh, don't leave me, don't leave me
I'm dead and lost within, without, without you...
Rebekah
Rebekah closed her eyes and listened to the tune and smiled faintly.
"A world of pain without you love
Without you, I fall to pieces
Please don't leave me, my darling love..."
Jono
Don't leave me, don't leave me
Don't leave me in the dark
Don't leave me, darlin', don't leave me
Now I've known your love...
Jonothon sighed slightly.
Think that's it?
Rebekah
Rebekah nodded.
"Yeah, I like it... I just hope they do not realise..."
JOno
Mordred's a 'path, but he can be awful dense somtimes. Long as we stay away from words like wolf, storm and lightning, he probably won't realise. Vortigern *thinks* in symbols, cos he's an artist. But he doesn't think in words as terms of symbols, ya see?
Jonothon looked at her, tilting his head slightly.
Gwen's probably the one we really have to be careful of. But I don't *think* she'll take offense.
Rebekah
Rebekah nodded.
"Well... hopefully they won't find out. I don't fancy having them angry at us."
Jono
All too true
Jonothon nodded.
I like being in one piece, ta muchly.
He strummed a more upbeat melody on his guitar.
Anyway. Nuff said bout the bedbugs in our midst. Think we can actually manage to write a, gasp, cheerful song?
Rebekah
Rebekah smiled.
"I think I could manage that."
She copied his melody, but altered it slightly, but so it fit in with the original tune.
Jono
Nah nah nah ni nah
Nah nah nah ni nah
Nah nah nah ni nah
Can you see that girl there?
Oh yeah, I'm talking bout that one
Skirt high up her legs and hands above her head
Whoa, whoa, girls watch your man when she's around...
Jonothon smiled slightly and raised an eyebrow at Bek.
Rebekah
Rebekah smiled.
"I don't think I could sing that though... unless..."
She strummed her guitar and joined in.
"But can you see that guy out there?
You know the one I mean
Flirting with trouble with his every word
Don't get sucked into his little games..."
Jono
Nah nah nah ni nah
Nah nah nah ni nah
Nah nah nah ni nah
Oh, dance with me, baby
Tell me that you love me
I'll pretend I believe you tonight
And say I love you too...
Jonthon riffed his guitar, notes strummed hard and quick, sounding playful and a bit cynical.
Rebekah
"Coz it's easy to pretend with you
And I wanna believe you tonight
So lie to me with your ten cent words
And I'll lap it up so faithfully..."
Rebekah mimicked his tune.
Jono
Whoa oh, it's so easy to play around
My girlfriend's nowhere to be found
And I'm playing it up, I'm playing the crowd
Hey, dance baby, dance...
Jonothon was having fun. It wasn't often he could actually do this, just play off someone.
Rebekah
Rebekah grinned and changed it into mock rap style.
"But don't you think that I can't see through you
I know what you're doing behind my back
Where you go when you disappear
Don't think I won't get you back, baby boy..."
Jono
Hey baby girl, you know the way works
Keep my attention or lose me
It's a sparkling, glittering world
So play it up, dance it up
Nah nah nah ni nah
Nah nah nah ni nah
Nah nah nah ni nah...
Rebekah
Rebekah giggled.
"You'll be sorry now I'm gone
Two can play at this game, baby
And I'll play harder than you would think
I won't lose out to you..."
Jono
Jonothon slid his fingers across the frets of his guitar.
The love we shared
Is shattered on the dance floor
So live it up, baby
Dance a little more...
Rebekah
Rebekah bobbed her head slightly.
"I'll crush your heart
The way you did mine
No time for regrets
We'll be better off alone..."
Jono
Nameless strangers, kisses in the dark
Don't get attached, don't love
We're better off alone
No strings attached...
Rebekah
"Don't judge me now
You missed your chance
So get over it, baby
You gave me up..."
Jono
We're over now, it's plain to see
Devoting our lives to our ex's misery
Love's a bitch when it all goes wrong
Guess that's why we wrote the song...
Rebekah
Rebekah smiled and stopped playing her guitar.
"That was fun."
Jono
Was, rather.
Jonothon wrote down what they had done.
I'll see you round, Bek.
Rebekah
"See ya," Rebekah said, getting up heading back to her tent.
