Madison and Chrissy
Madison looked up as she heard the key turning in the door. She felt her heart start to thud a little heavier in her ribcage, her hands sweating, and an overwhelming feeling of dread coming over her.
"Madison?" Chrissy's voice was quiet, and shaking.
Madison cleared her throat and sat up a little straighter.
"Yes?"
Chrissy walked through the door and closed it behind her. She walked slowly over to Madison, hands fidgeting nervously, eyes darting around wildly, her appearance haggard.
"What happened to you?" Madison asked, her face free of emotion, her voice devoid of any concern.
"I don't know..." Chrissy shivered slightly. "But... I came to... I came to..."
"You came to what?" Madison asked.
Chrissy opened her mouth, then paused. What was she expecting anyway? She knew that what she'd done to Isaac and Madison was horrible, even dragging Faith and Zac into the mess, just to hurt them more.
"Well?" Madison said, impatiently tapping her foot and raising an eyebrow.
"I came to say sorry," Chrissy replied lamely.
"Oh, I see. Well, you can save it, because I don't want to hear it."
"Mad, please..."
"Please what? Wait for you to go psycho again and try to kill me?" Madison stood up, folding her arms across her chest.
"I didn't know what I was doing!" Chrissy turned desperate eyes onto her sister.
"Chrissy, you knew exactly what you were doing, so don't pretend like you didn't, ok? You never were very good at lying, so don't think I can't see right through you."
"I... you have every right to be angry at me," Chrissy said, looking at the ground.
"Gee, thanks for your permission," Madison replied sarcastically.
"I'm sorry, I really am! Do you know what I've been through over the last month?"
"No, and interestingly enough, I don't care."
"People used me, and they hurt me, and took advantage of - "
"Chrissy, I don't care! And I don't see why I should have to, ok? Yeah, ok, you had a rough time by yourself, well boo freaking hoo! You deserve that and more for what you put me through, so take your sob story elsewhere, save it for Ricki Lake, because I, do not give a flying - "
"I'm sorry!" Chrissy cried, a single tear rolling down her cheek.
"Sorry is just another word, it doesn't make everything better. You know? It doesn't take away everything you did, it doesn't change the fact that..." Madison closed her eyes briefly and took a deep breath. "That you hurt me... not just physically, but... I thought we were best friends... but obviously not."
"I reacted badly, I know this!"
"You think?"
"What can I do to make it better again? There has to be something!" Chrissy pleaded.
Madison turned away from her. "Just go away."
"I can't... Mad, please, can you just..."
"No, I can't 'just'! I don't see why I should forgive you!"
"Please... I'm sorry, I really am, I... oh God, please, I am so sorry, sorry, so sorry!"
"Stop it! Stop saying it, because it doesn't mean anything! It doesn't change anything, and I don't want to hear it!" Madison faced her again, her eyes cold.
"I - "
"Don't. There's nothing that you can say or do to make this better... you made your choice when you went down that path. And now, you have to live with it."
"Madison - "
"Just go."
"I..." Chrissy turned around sadly, and walked to the door. She reached out with a quivering hand and opened it, turning around and staring at Madison again.
"What?"
"I am sorry." Chrissy turned and left.
Madison closed her eyes as the door closed.
"I am too..."
