Zac and Shannon
There was no denying that Zac was worried. Faith didn't come home at all that night. Where could she be?
"Zac?"
Zac looked up.
"Oh, hi Shannon," Zac said. "I don't suppose you know where Faith is?"
"No, sorry," Shannon replied, nodding her head.
Zac sighed.
"I, uhh, I wanted to thank you."
"For what?"
"For... helping me get out of my bethrothal."
Zac shrugged.
"No problem. It worked then, I suppose?"
"Yes. I'm officially an outcast."
"Wow, you make it sound so bad."
Shannon laughed.
"I am... glad it is over. I know not how long I will live, being a hybrid, but elves are immortal, and I would have spent the rest of my life with that.. that..."
"And eternity is a long time, huh?"
"Very long. So I am very grateful," and on that Shannon pulled out a small box. "I wanted to give you this."
Zac took the box curiously.
"You didn't need to..."
"As we just said... eternity is a long time."
Zac gave a wry smile and opened the box.
"A pendant?"
"It's what most would call a good luck charm. Most advanced magic I know."
"I... I, well... thanks..." Zac said.
Shannon smiled and Zac closed the box.
"I... don't be offended if you don't see me wearing it," Zac went on seriously. "I think I'd feel weird wearing something given to me by another woman when I'm engaged, under these circumstances anyway. But rest assured, it's not going to sit in this box and gather dust or anything. It will be used."
Shannon nodded.
"It is fine," she said.
Zac smiled.
"And you're doing much better with the whole opposites thing too."
"I know. Thank you."
"No, thank you."
