Astrid and Sigurd
Astrid stepped out onto the walls of Asgard. Sigurd came up behind her and put his arm around her waist as he kissed her cheek.
"We won."
"Well, we didn't. But the Light triumphed."
"And that is all that matters."
Inside the hall of Valhalla and the Great Hall of the Aesir, the celevrations continued.
Suddenly, Astrid gasped and fell to her knees slightly.
Sigurd dropped to his knees beside her.
"Love, what is it?"
"You have to go. Now."
"Why? What's wrong, my heart?"
Astrid didn't answer him as she felt the darkness inside her swell upwards.
"You have to promise me...you'll stay here. Don't come after me."
"What? Why?"
"I can't stay here. I can't. I'll hurt you, and betray my honour."
She looked at him.
"Promise me if you come after me, you'll kill me. No questions asked."
His eyes widened in shock.
"Astrid, darling of my life, I could not do that."
"Then don't. Follow. Me."
She rose to her feet and dived off the walls.
"ASTRID!" Sigurd yelled as she tumbled down past Bifrost and through Yggsdrail's branches.
Before she reached earth, she spread black wings.
Red eyes opened to observe the swirling clouds as she dropped to the surface of the ocean and hovered there. She caressed the hilt of her sword, the fletchings on her arrows melting into ebony feathers bound with red threads.
Astrid looked at herself and smiled.
"Free again."
She winged her way to that troublesome Seer. This time, she wouldn't blind him. She'd kill him. Slowly.
