6 Novemer 2003 - Buying a ring

Michelle and Nessa

Zac

"Okay," Zac said upon arrival at the shopping centre.

His hand was firmly set in Faith's.

"Where do we want to begin our quest for the ultimate engagement ring?"

Faith

Faith raised an eyebrow.

"The ultimate engagement ring?"

She giggled.

"It's not going to fight battles, just sit on my hand."

Zac

"Yes, and what a lovely hand it is too," Zac grinned. "I refuse to marr it with something less than ultimate."

He scanned the plaza.

"There's a jeweller."

Faith

Faith shook her head and kissed Zac's cheek.

"You know you're insane, right?"

They headed off in the direction of the jeweller.

Zac

"Yes," Zac replied. "But you wouldn't want me any other way."

He walked with her through the door.

"Sooo... what would you like?"

Faith

"I spose..." Faith said, raising an eyebrow.

She looked around.

"Something small."

She glanced at him.

"Because I won't be able to fight with it on."

Zac

"Good point," Zac replied.

"Can I help you?" asked the sales assistant.

"We're after an engagement ring. Small but sexy," Zac grinned.

Faith

Faith smiled. He was adorable. An idiot sometimes, but lovable.

"Idiot," she said quietly.

She looked through the glass counter at the rings.

Zac

Zac shrugged.

"Well, perhaps you'd like one of these," said the assistant, indicating a tray.

"Is this the part where someone says 'ooh, shiny'?" Zac asked. "Okay, I'll stop being silly now... Maybe."

Faith

"I'll say it... ooh, shiny."

Faith squeezed Zac's hand lightly.

"I'm not particularly fussed. It'll need to go nicely on my finger, and on a necklace... for, when, I can't wear it on my hand," she said, noting the assistant's strange look. "Oh, I work with my hands, and I can't... um... break it..."

"Note to self, come up with a better excuse for being a Slayer..."

Zac

"Plus, I don't think any of your martial arts students would like a ring cut across their face or anything," Zac grinned. "Hmm..."

He inspected the rings closely.

"Well, I have to say... I have no idea."

Faith chuckled.

"That one's alright..."

She vaguely pointed at a small gold ring with a small diamond stud in the band.

Zac

Zac inspected it critically.

"Alright? I don't think you should settle for alright. I think you should only accept perfect," he said finally.

Faith

Faith smiled.

"It really doesn't bother me. The rings not important."

The assistant pulled a ring from the tray and held it up for Zac and Faith's inspection. It was a silver band, with two small diamonds encrusted in the band.

Zac

Zac gave a small smile.

"Yeah, I know. But y'know... I just want you to have something special."

His smile became a cheeky grin.

"Other than me. You like this one?"

Faith

"Totally up yourself, part of why I love you," Faith grinned.

She looked closely at the ring.

"Yeah, I do actually. Silver is more me. Whoa, that sounded really girly."

Zac

Zac chuckled.

"The fact that you're female is something I find highly attractive about you," he grinned. "Okay, we'll take that one - ooooh, want it engraved Faithy?"

Faith

Faith shrugged.

"Surprise me."

She grinned cheekily.

"So, I guess I should stay a girl, right? Not try and change... on... Friday."

Zac

Zac chuckled.

"Yeah, stay just the way you are," he smiled. "Well, I can't think of anything cool to engrave on it, so we'll get it as is."

The shop assistant rang it up and as they walked out of the store, Zac lifted Faith's hand and put the ring on.

"There. As it should be."

Faith

Faith leaned over and kissed Zac gently.

"Thank you."

Zac

Zac smiled and kissed her back.

" 'S okay," he replied.
