2 November 2003 - Damn Scientists Running Out of Money

Talitha

Druella

"Oh but I was so close! What do you mean my contract is 'revoked'?" Druella hissed slaming her fist onto the paper strewn table in front of her.

"It's just that, he doesn't have any money you see. Government has shut down the labs, that means no funding, no funding means no extra money in the kitty, that means no job. Sorry luv, that's just the way the world goes." The hapless man behind the desk lent back slightly.

"Oh, you can be so damn philosophical about it. You have a damn job that pays every month!"

"Don't worry. Got you another one. Name of Vulpe Rossinni. The Red Fox. Might 'ave heard of her, she's a thief. Daughter of the now, dead, patriach of the thieves guild in Rome. She's a bounty, but a very worthwhile bounty."

"Don't do bounties." She snapped.

"Not even for US$1.5 billion? Lotsa people want this girl dead. You deliver her hide, you get the dosh. Oh, and by the way, she's a mutant."

"Is that supposed to make a difference? Lots of people are mutants."

"Nothing fancy, not pathic, not a porter, not kinetic. But she's fast and she's stronger. You can deal with that?"

"I can deal with anything."

"Oh, she's been taken in by Le Beau."

"So it's a home job?"

"We're not exactly sure where she is, that's your job to find her. But she's very distinctive. Red-black eyes, fur, tail. She looks like a fox on hind legs. Good thief though. Just pissed off one too many of the wrong kinda people."

"Don't they all?" Druella rolled her eyes in contempt.

"That's my girl. Here's the contract and folio. Go kill her. Tally- ho and onwards for the fox hunt."

"Do I get to keep the skin? Weirdo..." She muttered the last part under her breath.

"Oi, no need for unpleasantness."

"Ok, I'm leaving, and I'll get you your vixen. Loser." This time she kept the unpleasentness obvious.

Druella turned on her heel and stalked out of the building. 'I don't care if he isn't my real father, he is still my father and he shouldn't stuff my jobs around. And why does he hire idiots who have no clue about actually being an assassin? Stupid, paid job, grrr...'
