Faith
Faith's hand hovered above her phone. She shook her head and picked it up, dialling in Zac's number as she lay against her bed, her muscles aching. In a good way, from all the training, but she was sore and tired, all the same.
"Zac?"
Zac
Zac answered his phone.
"Faith! Hey!" He greeted cheerfully.
Faith
Faith smiled.
"Hiya. How are ya?"
She bit her lip slightly.
Zac
"Hey, I'm great, how are you?"
Man, it felt so good to hear her voice. Now if only Zac could get the gut to tell her how he really felt.
Faith
"Tired, spent most of... ok, spent all of today training for the rescue mission."
Faith sighed.
"That's kinda why I'm calling. The thing is... it's gonna be kinda dangerous and I... I might not, you know... survive."
Zac
Zac was silent for a moment.
"I... I... Faith..." he stammered for a moment. "Hey, promise me you won't get yourself killed, okay? I..."
Faith
"Zac, I'm not going to get myself killed. If I can help it."
Faith sighed and closed her eyes briefly.
"But if I do... I just don't want to," she swallowed. "Die, without you knowing that I do still and I will always lo - "
She frowned.
"Hello?"
Zac
"Hello?" Zac asked. "Oh damn it! Stupid battery! Why'd ya have to cut out now?"
He growled in annoyance.
"Ike! Can I use your phone?" Zac asked, then, without bothering to wait for a reply, snatched it up and dialed.
Faith
"That's just..."
Faith was hurt.
He'd hung up on her!
She picked up her phone and switched it off, then headed down to the kitchens for a late snack before bed.
Zac
"Damn it!" Zac exclaimed, getting her voice mail.
He waited for the beep.
"Faith? This is Zac. Sorry about before - my stupid battery died," he sighed. "Please, take care of yourself okay? I don't want anything to happen to you. I... and there's something really important I need to tell you but I need to do it face to face, okay? Because leaving it on voice mail is just wrong. Talk to you soon."
He slowly hung up.
