Rebekah
Rebekah handed her music to the pianist and stood in front of Spike, as the music began to play.
"The French are glad to die for love
A kiss on the hand may be quite continental
But diamonds are a girl's best friend
A kiss may be grand, but it won't pay the rental
On your humble flat, or help you feed your pussycat
Men grow cold as girls grow old
And we all lose our charms in the end
But square-cut or pear-shaped
These rocks don't lose their shape
Diamonds are a girl's best friend..."
Rebekah finished and bowed, and went to collect her music from the pianist.
Vortigern, Mordred and Spike
Spike smiled and made a tick against her name. Yep. She was Satine.
Vortigern got up onto the stage and waited for his music.
"And this one's for you.
And you can tell everybody that this is your song.
It may be quite simple but now that it's done.
I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind.
That I put down in words.
How wonderful life is now your in the world.
Sat on the roof and I kicked of the moss.
Well, some of these verses, well they, they've got me quite cross.
But the sun's been kind, while I wrote this song.
It's for people like you that keep it turned on.
So excuse my forgetting but these things I do.
You see I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue.
And well the things is, what I really mean.
Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen!
And you can tell everybody that this is your song.
It may be quite simple but now that it's done.
Hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind that I put down in words.
How wonderful life is now you're in the world.
Hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind that I put down in words,
how wonderful life is now you're in the world!"
Spike sat there for a moment as Vortigern went down to get his music back. Wow. And no one could say he was giving the role to him just because they shared a bed.
Mordred got up on stage to act the Duke.
"I don't like this ending," Mordred said petulantly.
"Don't like the ending dear Duke?" Spike said, acting Zidler.
"Why would the courtesan choose the penniless sitar player over the Maharaja who is offering a lifetime of security? That's real love. Once the sitar player has satisfied his lust, he will leave the courtesan with nothing. I suggest in the end that courtesan choose the Maharaja," Mordred said, folding his arms.
"But-but sorry. But that ending does not uphold the Bohemian ideas of truth, beauty, freedom . . ." Spike read for Toulouse.
"I don't care about your ridiculous ideas! Why shouldn't the courtesan choose the Maharaja?" Mordred snarled.
"BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T LOVE YOU! Him, she-she doesn't, she doesn't love him," Spike read Christian's lines.
"Now I see." Mordred's lips went thin. "Monsieur Zidler, this ending will be rewritten. With the courtesan choosing the Maharaja, and without the lovers secret song. It will be rehearsed in the morning ready for the opening tomorrow night."
Mordred hopped off the stage agilely.
Well, he's definetly evil enough...
Spike made a mark.
Bobby
Bobby hopped up on stage and waited for his music.
"She's made it through the wilderness somehow
She made it though
She didn't know how lost she was
Until she found you
She was beat incomplete
She'd been had
She was sad and blue
But you made her feel
Yes you made her feel
Shiny and new
Like a virgin
Touched for the very first time
Like a virgin
When your heart beats close in time..."
He bowed and chuckled as he hopped off the stage, going back to sit with Bek.
"Could you teach me?" he asked suddenly.
"Ah, teach you what?" Rebekah replied, looking startled.
"To do what you do... sing from the heart."
"Ah, it is not hard," Rebekah smiled. "I will help you."
Spike
All the people who were going for the chorus went up and sang the song through individually.
"Voulez vous coucher avec moi? Ce soir? Hey sister, go sister, soul sister, flow sister. Hey sister, go sister, soul sister, flow sister..."
Spike shrugged, and marked all their names down.
Some for individual roles, like Dem for the Green Fairy and Sergei for Chocolat.
But hey, he needed a lot of people. And they all sang tolerably.
Rogue, Julie and Shannon
Rogue and Julie both auditioned. They had attempted to con Shannon into, but she opted to do something backstage after all.
"Won't that be just as difficult?" Julie said. "You'll still have to deal with opposites."
"Used to following instructions. Acting is different."
"Hmm."
Spike
Spike made notes...
Ok, Rogue for Audrey...
And Julie for Nini. He was betting she could pull off the role.
He assigned a lot of other people to the miscallenous roles.
Now to put the cast list up.
