17 October 2003 - Off to the flicks

Tegan and Michelle

Jono

Jonothon sat on his bed and laced his combat boots up. Angelo sat in his computer chair and flicked through a magazine.

"So. Rogue."

Yeah. Rogue. Wot about it, mate? Jonothon stood and slid his arms into his black trench coat.

"Nothing, nothing..."

Obviously summat, mate. Spit it out. Jonothon looked in the small mirror on his wardrobe door.

"Jono, don't worry about it. Go have fun."

Jonothon sketched a salute with his hand as he left. Don't break anything.

He clattered down the stairs and knocked on Rogue's door.

Rogue

Rogue zipped up her bag and opened the door.

"Hey," she said shyly, slingling her bag over her shoulder.

Jono

Hey...you look great.

Jonothon tilted his head slightly.

And I'm not just saying that. You look...wow. So, ya wanna 'ead off?

Rogue

Rogue smiled.

"Thanks," she said, stepping out of them room. "Yep, ready to go."

Jono

Ok then.

The two of them headed down to the garage. Jonothon put a helmet on his head and tossed one to Rogue.

Here. Should fit ya.

Rogue

"'kay," Rogue replied.

She put on the helmet and waited for Jono to get on the motorcycle before she got on behind him.

Jono

Jonothon grabbed the keys to the bike and got on.

Hop on the back and 'old on tight.

He turned his head to look at her as the door to the garage opened.

I drive pretty fast. But I do drive safe. Never gone arse over tip yet, anyway.

Rogue

Rogue got on and put her arms around Jono's waist, holding on tightly.

"That's good to know," Rogue grinned.

Jono

Jonothon turned back to face the front, kicking the bike's stand and revving it so they shot out the door.

Fun, innit?

The gates creaked open to let them pass and Jonothon zipped the bike between them, their legs only centimetres away from the sides of the gates.

Rogue

"Cool," Rogue answered, hopefully loud enough for him to hear her.

Okay she needed to ride motorcycles more often. This was great.

Jono

Jonothon laughed.

Then you'll love this.

He hit the overdrive button and they almost flew.

Nyx made more then a few adjustments to 'er bike. Probably not 'xactly kosher, but fun.

Soon, they were close to the city limits and Jonothon turned it off.

'Ave to play it by the rules now. Don't fancy a fine.

Rogue

"'Kay."

Rogue looked around as they went down the street, towards the cinema.

Jono

Jonothon pulled the bike up in front of the cinema and kicked the bike stand down.

When we go in...you'll 'avta buy the tickets. People don't like telepaths, and since that's the only way I can talk...

Rogue

Rogue got up and pulled her helmet off.

"No problem," she replied.

Jono

Jonothon took his own helmet off and locked it to the bike. He took hers off her as well and did the same.

It's why I don't like to go out in public often...

He took her hand as they walked inside.

Don't worry about the bike. The crim who can take Nyx's bike 'asn't yet been born.

Rogue

Rogue chuckled, then squeezed his hand.

"Their loss," she said.

They joined the queue (which was fortunately short) and were soon at the head.

"Two for the League of Extarodinary Gentlemen," Rogue requested.

She passed across the money, and collected the tickets.

Jono

Want anything to eat? Jonothon asked her, pausing near the snackbar.

I've got the dosh for it, if you want something...

Rogue

"No, Ah'm fine," Rogue smiled. "Thanks for the offer though. Shall we go in?"

Jono

Yeah, let's.

Jonothon ignored the looks that people gave him as they walked down to where the theaters were and showed their tickets. He was used to it. Didn't mean he liked it, but he was used to it. He could hear their thoughts and that was more then annoyment enough.

(Did you see that guy? Ohmigod...)

(Freak...)

(Wonder what happened to him?)

(What the hell is a chick like that doing with that, that...)

Rogue

Rogue, however, noticed the looks. She gave Jono a sympathetic smile and squeezed his hand affectionately as they walked in.

"Sooooo... where do you wanna sit?"

Jono

Jonothon shrugged.

Somewhere we can see the screen. In the middle somewhere?

Rogue

Rogue grinned.

"Works for me," she said, walking towards the middle of the cinema.

Jono

They found two unoccupied seats and sat down.

This is good... Jonothon almost murmured as the beginning ads started.

Except sometimes, I really wonder where the 'ell the blokes who do the ads find their ideas...

Rogue

Rogue giggled.

"Yeah, they can get really bizarre sometimes, huh? Ooooh, trailers!"

Jono

Some of those look good. Jonothon noted.

Maybe when they come out, we could go see them...?

Rogue

"That would be great," Rogue smiled.

She moved up close to him as the lights dimmed further and the movie began.

Jono

Jonothon put his arm around her shoulders as they settled down to watch the movie.

He blinked slightly when a futuristic armoured tank broke into the Bank of England to steal DaVinci's plans for the foundations of Venice.

Well.

Rogue

Rogue laid her head on Jono's shoulder and snickered.

Jono

They watched the movie through and then got up afterwards to go out.

Good movie. The comic is better though. Jonothon commented.

Notice how the comics or wotever the movie is based on usually are?

Rogue

"Yeah," Rogue nodded. "It's usually the way. Sooo..."

She stopped and put her arms around his neck.

"Whatcha wanna do next?"

Jono

Wanna just walk around for a bit? Jonothon asked, putting his hands on her hips.

"What type of girl goes out with a freak like that?"

"He's probably paying her."

"Yo!" A wolf whistle. "How much would it take for you to come over and go out with me and my friend here?"

Jonothon's back stiffened slightly as he took Rogue by the hand and led her away.

Ignore them.

Rogue

"That was the plan," Rogue muttered. "As if I could be paid to date someone. Bastards."

Jono

They kept walking down the street.

I'm sorry bout that.

Jonothon squeezed her hand lightly.

Rogue

Rogue sighed.

"It's okay, not you're fault they're so... judgemental of appearences."

Jono

Shoulda known summat like that would happen...

Jonothon shook his head.

I'm so sorry Rogue...

Rogue

"Jono... don't blame yourself, okay? It's not your fault and Ah'll get over it."

Rogue brought his hand to her lips and kissed it.

"Ah'd rather deal with that with you, than not deal with it without you."

Jono

Jonothon brushed his fingertips across her lips.

Yeah, I just...bloody hell.

Rogue

"They're not worth it," Rogue said. "C'mon. Wanna go to the park?"

Jono

Jonothon put his arm around her waist and hugged her close for a moment.

Yeah, that sounds like a brill idea.

They started walking in the direction of the park.

Rogue

"Thanks," Rogue replied.

She sighed happily.

"It's really beautiful here," she said as they entered the park.

Jono

Yeah, New York ain't that bad...

Jonothon was thoughtful.

I'd love to show you Lunnon though. Got more history then here...

Rogue

Rogue smiled.

"And Ah'd love to be there with you."

She spotted the little bridge and shuddered unthinkingly.

Jono

Wot's the matter? Jonothon asked her.

He hugged her comfortingly.

Rogue

Rogue pointed.

"That's... that's the spot where Calvin... attacked me and I absorbed him to death."

She gulped and chewed her lip.

Jono

Do you want to go somewhere else? Jonothon inquired gently.

We can go back to the mansion if you want...

Rogue

"No, no... it's okay," Rogue replied. "Maybe if we go to another part of the park though."

She realised this had been the first time she had been back here since Calvin.

Jono

Ok, pet.

Jonothon led her away from the bridge.

Rogue

"You probably think Ah'm being silly, huh?" Rogue murmered.

Jono

Not at all. Jonothon said gently.

There's a few places I can live happily without seeing h'again...

Like his family's house in London.

Like the London hospital.

Like the place where he'd crippled Gail...

Rogue

Rogue smiled at Jono.

"Thank you, for being so understanding."

She squeezed his hand gently.

Jono

S'alright.

Jonothon shrugged, slightly uncomfortable.

We're a lot alike...means I understand where ya coming from...

Rogue

"Hmmm... still..."

Rogue didn't even try to finish the sentance. Just walked close to Jono quietly.

Jono

Some places have bad memories attached to them.

Jonothon ran his hand through her hair for a moment.

Sometimes ya just don't want to be reminded...

Rogue

"Yeah..."

Rogue smiled at his touch.

"Today has been a good day, huh?"

Jono

The concert was fun.

The corners of Jonothon's eyes creased in his grin.

Stupid Russian...his fingers were bleeding from the guita strings. I asked him after the seventh song, but no. He had to have the great big nads to keep going anyway, didn't 'e? Idiot.

Rogue

Rogue looked at Jono in concerned alarm.

"Oh gosh, is he okay?"

Jono

Yeah, yeah. He'll be fine.

Jonothon shrugged slightly.

And next time, he'll say something, won't he? It'll help build up callouses at least...

Rogue

Rogue nodded.

"Well, that's good. I really enjoyed the concert by the way."

Jono

That's good to know.

Jonothon squeezed her hand lightly.

Not much point in performing if your audience doesn't like it. Which song did you like best?

Rogue

"True," Rogue smiled. "Well, Ah liked all of them, but Ah have ta say, Ah took a liking to 'Collared Lady'."

Jono

Jonothon blushed slightly.

Good to hear...

Rogue

"It was really very sweet of you," Rogue went on.

She smiled at him.

Jono

Sometimes songs just need to be written...

Jonothon shrugged faintly.

I only write about wot I feel, and wot I think...song's no good if there's nothing behind it.

Rogue

"Mmm..."

Then she paused, thinking about some of the other songs.

"Ah shouldn't be concerned, should Ah? Considering other songs you wrote that were played today..."

Jono

Nah, not really. That's past now. Still good songs though.

Jonothon looked distant for a moment.

Rogue

Rogue watched him.

"One of those places you can do without ever returning to?" she asked quietly.

Jono

Yeah...

Jonothon turned his face away and closed his eyes for a moment.

Really well wivvout going back to...

Rogue

Rogue touched his head gently.

"It's getting late. We should probably get back."

Jono

Yeah...

Jonothon looked back at her.

Ignore me if I start to brood. It's the best thing, really.

They started to walk back slowly to where they'd left the bike.

Rogue

Rogue patted his shoulder softly.

"It's okay," she said.

Jono

Yeah...I don't ever have to go back.

They arrived at the motor bike and Jonothon handed her the helmet she'd worn as he slipped his own on over his head.

Rogue

Rogue put the helmet on and got on the bike after Jono did.

"Ready when you are," she said.

Jono

Jonothon wheeled the bike and enetered the stream of city traffic.

They were soon speeding down the highway back to the school.

So, have fun?

Rogue

"Yep!" Rogue replied, her arms tight around his waist. "And you?"

Jono

Yeah...it was great.

They entered the mansion grounds and Jonothon pulled up in the garage.

I'll see you tomorrow?

Rogue

Rogue smiled at him as she got off the bike and pulled off the helmet.

"Sure thing," she said.

Jono

Yeah.

Jonothon took his own helmet off and removed the keys from the ignition.

Tonight was great.

Rogue

Rogue nodded.

"We should do this again sometime," she smiled.

Jono

That would be nice.

Jonothon smiled at her with his eyes, then started to pack up the bike and the equipment.

This is gonna take a bit. I'll see ya in the morning?

Rogue

"Okay, bye," Rogue said.

And she left the garage.
