Displaced
Sergei stepped up to the mike, electric guitar slung across his body and tapped the mike.
"One, two, two, two, three...ok. It works."
He grinned at the somewhat surprised students outside as The Displaced set up on the basketball courts.
"Hey...since our last performance got, ah, disrupted..."
Nearly everyone laughed.
"We're back again..."
"Because we know you love us, and you want us...baaaaaaaaddddd," Octavian drawled.
"So here we are, ready to play. And please, don't scare the children. Ok, Jono...adapted this song. Thank you to the original band. This is Then, Sounds of Mutant High."
Angelo tapped out the beat on the drums and Jonothon and Sergei started to play as Sergei took in a deep breath and sang.
"I think I hear the sounds of then,
And people screaming,
The scenes recalled, by minute movement,
And things we've done, inside the rec room.
That certain texture, that certain smell,
To lie in sweat, on familiar seats,
In tangled limbs and sweat drenched hair.
In a room, of remembered kisses
That certain texture, that certain smell,
Brings home the happy days,
Brings home the day time heat,
Out on the couch, we'd sit,
And the sexual tension, we'd feel
We'd watch Julie tease all the guys
Laugh and think, this is Mutant High.
The talking's awkward - we remember too,
Long silences, and glancing from you.
And in the distance, we know we'll remember this,
But we'll never tell anyone who wasn't there.
That certain texture, that certain beat,
Brings forth the day time heat.
Out on the floor we'd sit,
And the tensions rise again,
We'd watch Vort and Spike suck face; good, Vort's breathing
Laugh and think that this is Mutant High.
To lie in wait, in familair halls,
Waiting for that one person to notice you.
In a place full of teens you can't help but notice
That certain texture, that certain smell,
Brings forth the happy days,
Brings forth the night time sweats
Out on the poolside we'd sit,
And the tensions would rise,
We'd watch the girls swim, in their bikinis
Laugh and think, this is Mutant High.
Inside the classrooms, we'd sit,
And the teaching, we'd try to get through,
We'd pretend we were actually listening
Laugh and think, this is Mutant High.
This is Mutant High, this is Mutant High, this is Mutant High..."
BObby and Rebekah
Rebekah clapped, dancing with Bobby and a few other students.
"They are good, oui?" she said.
"Yeah, really good," Bobby agreed.
JUlie and Rogue
Julie giggled, hearing her name in the song.
"Yeah that sounds like you," Rogue grinned.
"I've never been in a song before. Cooooool."
Displaced
"Ok, and we hope Mama Cass forgives us for this one..." Sergei blew a kiss in the direction of the sky.
"California Dreaming...with it's very own Displaced twist...
"All the leaves are brown
And the sky is grey
I've been for a walk
On a winter's day
I'd be safe and warm
If I was in L.A.
California dreaming
On such a winter's day
Stopped into a church
I passed along the way
Well, I got down on my knees
And I pretend to pray
You know the preacher like the cold
He knows I'm gonna stay
All the leaves are brown
And the sky is grey
I've been for a walk
On a winter's day
If I didn't tell her
I could leave today..."
The song was punk'd up and fast beat as Sergei howled out the lyrics and Angelo and Octavian backed him.
OOC: California Dreaming by the Mamas and the Papas.
Rebekah and Bobby
"I like that song," Bobby mused.
"Oui, agreed," Rebekah said, as they went over to Rogue and Julie. "They are very good, oui?"
Julie and Rogue
"Yes they are," Rogue smiled, then wagged her finger at Julie. "Behave you. We're not havign a repeat of the other night."
Julie pouted playfully.
"Yes Mom," she joked.
Displaced
Sergei cracked his knuckles away from the mike.
"And for Julie...we do love ya. Really we do."
Shut up, Sergei.
A piece of paper hit Sergei in the back of the head and he turned.
"What?"
Don't be rude. Let's play.
"Ok, ok..."
"Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light
Those days are over
You don't have to sell your body to the night
Roxanne
You don't have to wear that dress tonight
Walk the streets for money
You don't care if it's wrong or if it's right
Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light
I loved you since I knew you
I wouldn't talk down to you
I have to tell you just how I feel
I won't share you with another boy
I know my mind is made up
So put away your make up
Told you once I won't tell you again
It's a bad way
Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light
Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light..."
"And he doesn't mean it Julie. Sergei's a slut, just like, well..." Octavian trailed off, grinning.
Sometimes I really can't believe you lot... Jonothon shook his head.
OOC: Roxanne by the Police.
BObby and Rebekah
Bobby laughed and went and put his arms around Julie's waist.
"I think they're hinting something."
"You think?" Rebekah said dryly.
Julie and Rogue
Julie giggled.
"I can laugh at myself. I know I'm a slut."
And she promptly rested her head on Bobby's shoulder. Rogue eyed them warily.
"Be good. If you two spoil this concert I swear, I'll... I'll... I'll absorb you both to death too. No on second thought, I won't. That'll probably just turn me into a slut. Hmm... maybe I'll give Calvin the pleasure of me murdering you in your sleep then."
She glared fiercely.
Displaced
"OK...this goes to the lady who has-" A ball of paper hit the back of Sergei's head. "What?! As I was-" Another ball of paper hit him.
He whirled to glare at Jonothon, who looked innocent.
Wot?
"Ok...anyway, this is Collared Lady, by Jono."
"Ah, ah, ah, lady
I know what you say
Don't always match what you're thinking
Ah, ah, ah, lady,
It doesn't worry me
No, no, it don't worry me
Collared Lady
Wish you could be free
Ah, lady
Wish you could be free
Ah, ah, ah, lady
Does it hold your throat tight?
Don't you ever get that feeling
Like you're just gonna scream?
Scream until the walls fall down
Scream until the end of life
Cos a collar never meant to be on your neck
You were meant to be free
Meant to be free
But I say
Don't worry me
What's inside your head
I got my demons too
Watch my sleep
And I'll watch your back
And together we'll get through..."
Rebekah and Bobby
"Awww," Rebekah said, amplifying the happy emotions in the room.
Bobby swayed with Julie, and kissed her neck, then moving so he was behind her and rested his head on her shoulder.
"That was kinda nice, hmm, Rogue?" Bobby asked.
Julie and Rogue
Rogue chewed her bottom lip, an unmistakable smile on her face. She nodded.
"It was very nice," she replied, wiping a tear from her eye.
"So sweet," Julie grinned.
Displaced
Sergei bent and picked up a bottle of water. He drank a few gulps then put it back down.
"Ok, another one of Jono's...isn't he talented?"
Sergei this time ducked the ball of paper.
"HA! Missed!"
Wotcher, mate.
"Just Another Day, and Jono, don't you dare throw anything else at me."
Jonothon grinned, and strummed his guitar quickly, entering into an almost upbeat melody. It made the words kind of a shock.
"It's another day
I wake up and go out the door
Because it's just another day.
There's blood on the shower floor
And shattered glass near the door
But it's just another day.
Spilled whisky stains the carpet
And I know you didn't mean it
I hide the bruises
Hide the pain
When the people ask, I say
Fell into the door again.
Smile, shrug, and keep on walking,
Because,
It's just another day.
When the coppers come
It's always too late
And I shrug,
Cos damn, it's just another day
Kid crying in his bed upstairs
And I'm sorry, I'm sorry
Oh god, god, I'm sorry
Please..." Sergei whispered into the mike.
"But hey
It's just another day!
So up I get
Out the door I walk
But I always come back, I always do
Because this is what life is
This is what love is
He loves me, I know
Cos he tells me so
As the blood runs down my lip
And the bones break and the bruises form
And it's just another day..."
Jonothon bowed his head for a moment in a pretence of tuning his guitar.
Bobby and Rebekah
Bobby spun Julie around, dancing up close with her as he listened to the band.
Rebekah rolled her eyes at the display. "Sergei is... he sings from the heart. It's refreshing."
Rogue and Julie
Julie smiled as she danced with Bobby.
"Yeah..." Rogue agreed, wondering briefly if there were more to that song that met the eye, ear?
She caught Rebekah's gaze.
"At least they're not groping," she whispered.
Displaced
"Ok, this is some Aussie band that Jono managed to get a CD of...so I don't think anyone here would have heard it."
Sergei cleared his throat as he and Jonothon started to play.
"Go!!
So 1,2,3, take my hand and come with me
because you look so fine
and i really wanna make you mine.
I say you look so fine
that I really wanna make you mine.
Oh, 4,5,6 c'mon and get your kicks
now you dont need that money
when you look like that, do ya honey.
Big black boots,
long brown hair,
she's so sweet
with her get back stare.
Well I could see,
you home with me,
that you were with another man, yea!
I know we,
ain't got much to say,
before I let you get away, yea!
I said, are you gonna be my girl?
Well, so 1,2,3, take my hand and come with me
because you look so fine
and i really wanna make you mine.
I say you look so fine
that I really wanna make you mine.
Oh, 4,5,6 c'mon and get your kicks
now you dont need that money
with a face like that, do ya.
Big black boots,
long brown hair,
she's so sweet
with her get back stare.
Well I could see,
you home with me,
that you were with another man, yea!
I know we,
ain't got much to say,
before I let you get away, yea!
I said, are you gonna be my girl?
Oh yea. Oh yea. C'mon!
I could see,
you home with me,
that you were with another man, yea!
I know we,
ain't got much to say,
before I let you get away, yea!
Uh, be my girl.
Be my girl.
Are you gonna be my girl?! Yea..."

Bobby and Rebakah
Bobby grinned as he spun Julie again.
Rebekah clapped and danced around by herself, revelling in the emotions of the room.
"Yes, it's is good they aren't doing that," Rebekah said to Rogue.
Julie and Rogue
Julie giggled, whirling around.
"You silly," she grinned.
Rogue smiled, happy just to sit and listen.
Displaced
"OK, another song by Jono...he writes a lot of them. Doesn't sleep, ya know. Means he has a lot of...time on his hands." Sergei grinned. "So here we are. It's called What did I do?"
They swung into it. It had a hard kinda punk sound, with a lot of drums and wailing guitar riffs.
"Lonely days and lonelier nights
Lying here thinking of you
Smelling your perfume
I lay and wonder
How it all fell down
I don't see why
The screams don't stop
It's the,
Blood trickling down my wrists.
It's the,
Sting of the pills as I swallow.
It's the,
End of life without you
And I wanna know
Oh, goddamn do I wanna know
What did I do?
WHAT DID I DO?!
I WANNA KNOW!
Just one more time
Before I die
Talking on the phone with you
What did I do, bitch, what did I do?
Harsh caress of hemp around my neck
Reminds me of your hands
You held me once
I remember that
Soft kisses, whispered words
And all those goddamn 'I love you's
What are they worth now?
What are they worth now, as the pain recedes
And the darkness comes
Tell me, what are they worth to you?
They meant a great deal to me
And I wanna know
Oh, goddamn do I wanna know
What did I do?
WHAT DID I DO?!
I WANNA KNOW!
Just one more time
Before I die
Talking on the phone with you
What did I do, bitch, what did I do?
You're scared now
You're crying
Hoping that I just go away
I'm going
I'm leaving with the angels
Or maybe it's demons
I don't know, I can't tell
Where's heaven and where's hell
It's the,
Darkness pressing in on me
It's the,
Pain that screams for release
And you know?
You brought me to this.
And I wanna know
Oh, goddamn do I wanna know
What did I do?
WHAT DID I DO?!
I WANNA KNOW!
Just one more time
Before I die
Talking on the phone with you
What did I do, bitch, what did I do?
Oh, oh, oh, what did I do?
Tell me, love, pet, darling, sweetheart,
My one, my only
Angel, beautiful, cherie, amoure,
WHAT DID I DO?!"
Jonothon finished the song with a crashing guitar riff and Sergei panted slightly, throat hoarse from nearly screaming. He picked up the water bottle and drank deeply.
Angelo massaged his wrists and poured some water over his head, letting it trickle down into his hair.
Rogue and Julie
Eh, maybe Rogue was reading too much into that other song - she doubted this one came from experience.
Julie gave a wolfwhistle and grinned at Angelo.
Displaced
Angelo shook his head, and Octavian protested.
"Hey, careful! Electric equipment!"
"It'll be fine. So, what's next?" Angelo looked at Jonothon, who was massaging his hands.
A cover. Pearl Jam?
"Sounds cool to me." Sergei shrugged.
"Don't you think you oughtta rest?
Don't you think you oughtta lay you head down?
Don't you think you want to sleep?
Don't you think you oughtta lay your head down tonight?
Don't you think you've done enough?
Oh don't you think you've got enough well maybe..
You don't think there's time to stop
There's time enough for you to lay your head down tonight tonight
Let it wash away
All those yesterdays
What are you running from?
Taking pills to get along
Creating walls to call your own
So no one catches you? drifting off and
Doing all the things that we all do
Let them wash away
All those yesterdays
All those yesterdays
All those paper plates
You've got time, you've got time to escape
There's still time, it's no crime to escape
It's no crime to escape, it's no crime to escape
There's still time, so escape
It's no crime, crime..
All those yesterdays
All those yesterdays
All those yesterdays
All those yesterdays
All those yesterdays
All those yesterdays
All those yesterdays
All those yesterdays
All those yesterdays..."
OOC: All those yesterdays by Pearl Jam
Bobby and Rebekah
"Yeah!" Bobby cried, before grabbing Julie again and spinning her around.
Rebekah shook her head. "Oui, you are insane."
"Thank you."
Rogue and Julie
Julie giggled.
"Insane is good. Insane is always good."
Rogue looked at Rebekah and sighed.
Displaced
Jonothon looked at Sergei in concern. Are you alright?
"Fine, I'm fine. What song next?"
Smells like teen spirit by Nirvana.
"Gotcha."
"Load up on guns and
Bring your friends
It's fun to lose
And to pretend
She's over bored
And self assured
Oh no, I know
A dirty word
hello, how low? (repeat)
With the lights out it's less dangerous
Here we are now
Entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now
Entertain us
A mulatto
An albino
A mosquito
My Libido
Yeah
I'm worse at what I do best
And for this gift I feel blessed
Our little group has always been
And always will until the end
hello, how low? (x bunch of times)
With the lights out it's less dangerous
Here we are now
Entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now
Entertain us
A mulatto
An albino
A mosquito
My Libido
Yeah
And I forget
Just why I taste
Oh yeah, I guess it makes me smile
I found it hard
It was hard to find
Oh well, whatever, nevermind
hello, how low? (x bunch of times)
With the lights out it's less dangerous
Here we are now
Entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now
Entertain us
A mulatto
An albino
A mosquito
My Libido
Yeah, a denial
A denial
A denial..."
Rogue and Julie
"Umm, Julie?" Rogue said. "B'Elanna's crying."
"Dang, I was having fun," Julie said. "Might be too loud - oh wait... no she's probably hungry."
She picked up her daughter.
"That's it isn't it sweetie?"
She settled down to breastfeed, but on this occasion was unusually modest about the task.
Bobby and Rebekah
Bobby raised an eyebrow, and pouted playfully.
"Awwww, we don't get to see this time?"
Rebekah shook her head.
"You are officially too far gone to be saved."
Julie and Rogue
"Well, I could let you, but I think if everyone saw what my boobs look like after their treatment from you last night, they might think I was in an abusive relationship or something," Julie replied coyly.
"I did not need to hear that," Rogue replied.
Displaced You sure your throat's alright? What about your hands? Jonothon asked Sergei privately.
"I'm *fine*, Jono! Let's play."
"You sure?" Octavian inquired anxiously.
"Yes, borzhemoi! I'm fine!"
"Hang out my window and over your head
Stare at your feelings to see where they end
You're waiting here for someone else to break you
From the inside
You've been so composed
We all know...
There's always something tearing you apart
It's always so much longer than you counted on
And it hits you so much harder than you thought
But you don't worry, you don't worry
Cause you've got soul
You're so heavy
You're so misunderstood
And I spent all my wishes
Wishing times were good
When I still could
Waited around here for someone else to take me
Past the good side
You've been here so long now
We all know...
There's always something tearing you apart
It's always so much longer than you counted on
And it hits you so much harder than you thought
But you don't worry, you don't worry
Cause you've got soul
Darling, you've got so much soul
There's always something tearing you apart
It's always so much longer than you counted on
And it hits you so much harder than you thought
But you don't worry, you don't worry
Cause you've got soul
You don't worry, you don't worry
You don't worry, you don't worry
Cause you've got soul..."

BObby and Rebekah
Bobby grinned.
"What did I do?"
Rebekah covered her ears.
"Please, I'm with Rogue, I don't want to know."
Julie and Rogue
"The love bits for a start," Julie began.
"Noooooo... I don't wanna know..." Rogue complained.
"And there are some bruises too. It's actually rather painful to feed B'Elanna at the moment."
Displaced
"Right, what next?" Angelo asked Jonothon.
"You're so real?"
Yeah, that'll do.
"Yes, I am
I hope you think you beat me
Hope I start talking crazy
Before you understand me
Are we through?
You think that I'm beneath you
But you like the things that I do
Wrap 'em up and take 'em with you
I'm alright
I hope I can sleep for one night
If not to cool my insides
Maybe to calm my backside
Rain on me
I've got a weakness in me
I think that weakness feeds me
I don't think you think you need me
Sunshine, you're the best time I ever, ever had
But I think I made you feel bad
A black fly on your necktie, time after time
But when the sun starts sinking on your beautiful soul
Make you cry, cry baby, make you feel so cold
Don't you know, it's alright
Sometimes you've just got to show how you feel
Cause that's just you, baby
Hell, you're so real
Run this 'round
In your head like you don't know what's on the inside
You don't know me too well
You ain't seen my badside
Shame on me
Shame on the things that I'd be
If you could complicate me
If you could get inside me
Sometimes, you're the best time I've ever, ever known
Pretty girl with a wicked smile on
But I've cried for the last time
Something just don't feel right
But when the sun starts sinking on your beautiful soul
Make you cry, cry baby, make you feel so cold
Don't you know, it's alright
Sometimes you've just got to show how you feel
Cause that's just you, baby
Hell, you're so real
You always know just who you are
You never needed someone else
To realize yourself
But when the sun starts sinking on your beautiful soul
Make you cry, cry baby, make you feel so cold
Don't you know, it's alright
Sometimes you've just got to show how you feel
Cause that's just you, baby
Hell, you're so real
Yeah, baby, you're so real
Yeah, baby, you're so real
So real, so real
Oh God, yeah
Yeah, yeah..."
Bobby and Rebekah
"Oh mon dieu, a fermé vers le haut!" Rebekah said, but she was smiling. (Oh my god, shut up!)
Bobby grinned.
"Hmmm, so, seems I've made my mark on you, Julie. Fun."
Julie and Rogue
"Yes, yes you have," Julie replied. "Hope you're happy."
"Can you guys just shush and listen to the music?" Rogue asked.
Displaced
"Ok, guys, I'm afraid this is our last song," Sergei said.
Yeah, don't particularily feel like having bleeding fingers. Jonothon looked at Sergei sternly.
"So, we're up for one more, and then we're packing up."
"Why does it feel like night today?
Something in here's not right today.
Why am I so uptight today?
Paranoia's all I got left
I don't know what stressed me first
Or how the pressure was fed
But I know just what it feels like
To have a voice in the back of my head
It's like a face that I hold inside
A face that awakes when I close my eyes
A face watches every time I lie
A face that laughs every time I fall
(And watches everything)
So I know that when it's time to sink or swim
That the face inside is hearing me
Right underneath my skin
It's like I'm paranoid lookin' over my back
It's like a whirlwind inside of my head
It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within
It's like the face inside is right beneath my skin
I know I've got a face in me
Points out all my mistakes to me
You've got a face on the inside too and
Your paranoia's probably worse
I don't know what set me off first but I know what I can't stand
Everybody acts like the fact of the matter is
I can't add up to what you can but
Everybody has a face that they hold inside
A face that awakes when I close my eyes
A face watches every time they lie
A face that laughs every time they fall
(And watches everything)
So you know that when it's time to sink or swim
That the face inside is watching you too
Right inside your skin
It's like I'm paranoid lookin' over my back
It's like a whirlwind inside of my head
It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within
It's like the face inside is right beneath my skin
The face inside is right beneath your skin
The face inside is right beneath your skin
The face inside is right beneath your skin
The sun goes down
I feel the light betray me (Repeat until end)
It's like I'm paranoid lookin' over my back
It's like a whirlwind inside of my head
It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within
It's like the face inside is right beneath my skin
The sun goes down
I feel the light betray me
It's like I'm paranoid lookin' over my back
It's like a whirlwind inside of my head
It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within
It's like the face inside is right beneath my skin..."

Bobby and Rebekah
"Very happy," Bobby grinned.
"Je suis d'accord avec Rogue..." Rebekah said quietly, then noticed Bobby peering at her. "I said I agree with Rogue."
She and Bobby clapped as the band finished.
Julie and Rogue
Rogue joined in on the applause - Julie would have too but her hands were slightly full.
"I bet you're not the least bit sore," Julie went on. "I should try to bruise you next time. See how you like it."
Displaced
The Displaced took their bows, and then started to pack up.
Sergei went to the mike again.
"Any strong males in the audience...or chicks, we're all for sexual equality, who wants to lend us a hand in getting the stuff back inside, you're very welcome to."
He disconnected the mike and started winding the cord up.
Faith
Faith came out to hear the tail end of the concert, and shook her head, but went to help put the stuff away.
"Need a hand?" she asked.
Displaced
"Da, please," Sergei said as he looked up from putting away some of the more fragile sound equipment. "If you could help one of the guys take the amps back inside..."
Jonothon went inside with his two guitars slung over his back, and one of Angelo's snares in his hands.
Octavian came back out from taking his keyboard inside.
"Yes, if you could just give me a hand, Faith..."
Faith
Faith smiled wickedly.
"Oh I'll give you a hand."
She shrugged.
"Where do you want me?"
Displaced
"Over here," Octavoan said, smiling slightly as he walked over to one of the big outdoor amps. "IT'll be easier with two of us, that's for sure..."
"Sergei, give me a hand with this?" Angelo asked as he packed up his drumkit.
"Right after I return the mikes," Sergei said as he walked inside.
I'll do it. Jonothon went over to help Angelo.
Faith
Faith followed him and lifted her side.
"Where does it go?" she asked as they walked inside.
Octavian
"Store room, this way."
They walked through the halls to the store room and set it inside carefully.
"My deepest thanks to you, dear lady."
Octavian smiled at her.
"And now I better go see what else needs doing."
Faith
Faith smiled back.
"Not a problem. I should go do some training..."
She headed off.
"Catch ya later."
Displaced
With their usual amicable bickering, The Displaced packed up from their concert.
"Well, that was fun," Angelo said.
"Da!"
"Quite."
Yeah. We'll do it again some time.
