11 October 2003 - Just a small town game

Spook

Christina had packed most of her stuff into the car the night before and she was sitting at the kitchen table, drinking coffee and studying a map when Christian came in. She looked up.

"This..."

She slid the map over.

"Is Dathton. Highly original name. The town's population of about a hundred or so, is either alien, hybrid or humans married to aliens."

She put a few pages of paper next to the map.

"Names and powers, grouped together by household. I've been wanting to do this for ages...but it is not a one person job."

She grinned.

"We'll do this then head up to Canada. Because, damn. Tanya and Leroy are not going to be happy campers afterwards. I've been working on messing with all the systems in the town...water, phone, electricity, gas, all those things. So when I cut the power entirely...it won't cause a panic."

Christian

Christian rolled the sleeves of his jacket up to his elbows, then shifted the papers in front of him and leant on the table to look them over.

"You won't have to be too prepared," he said finally, "they won't know we're coming. And it doesn't look overly populated... not that everyone will be home at the time."

Spook

"True, but they have their own school," Christina said.

"Accredited by the US government and everything. Most of their own services are taken care of in the town, but quite a number of people work in the next big town over."

She sipped from her coffee.

"Ones marked with a star, to the best of my knowledge work outside the town."

Christian

Christian nodded.

"Most of the active and long-distance powers work out of town then," he observed, "we should probably hit the school first. Round up the children together and get the massacre over with. Call an assembly or something."

He scratched his chin thoughtfully.

"I can do them all at once if we get them together. We just have to make sure we have every one, or a few could slip out and warn the townspeople."

Spook

"Pretend you're a school inspector, call an assembly?" Christina suggested and she sipped from her coffee.

"Get them all together...I blanket everyone except you, and you kill them all. I make sure everyone did go. I can...feel where someone with power is. Kinda like an itch in the back of my head."

She studied the map again.

"Then we start hitting the houses?"

Christian

"I'm not too good an actor," Christian chuckled, "easiest way is to go straight to the reception. Block all their powers, and get some to use to PA to call an assembly."

He took a deep breath.

"Then hit the houses. Might be easier to start from this side of town," he pointed to it, "because it's closer to the city. In an evacuation, that's where they'd all go."

Spook

"Oh yes, I like that idea."

Christina grinned.

"It's gonna be like shooting fish in a barrel."

Christian

"Kinda boring when you think about it, really," Christian shrugged.

"But I don't doubt there will be some quirks. Planned or not."

He looked up.

"When do you want to do this?"

Spook

"Tomorrow, maybe?" Christina suggested.

"It's a bit late to head up there now."

Christian

"No problem," Christian shrugged and turned away.

He grabbed a nearby chair and sat down heavily, a thoughtful look on his face.

What was the date? 11th. So... 23 days to go.

Spook

Christina finished her coffee, then went to go and wash up her coffee mug.

"I'm going to go work out. Welcome to join."

She disappeared down the stairs and went into a stretching routine.

RK sauntered in and brushed against Christian's legs before going to his foodbowl.

Christian

Christian watched the cat, wondering why he liked him so much.

He wondered why Christina liked him so. And even Tanya. No one else seemed to...

Well, there was Tate. And Chloe. But they were different. And Steel only liked him because he had to.

With a sigh, he got up and followed Christina.

Spook

Christina opened her eyes to see Christian come down the stairs.

Well, good for him.

She descended back into her fighting routine, generally beating the hell out of the punching bag she had chained up in a corner.
