Dawn
Dawn looked around the room. Not a bad turnout. Although, she WAS surprised when Octavian showed up. Jean had given her a room in the mansion to use, and she had turned it into a sacred space, a sanctuary room, with cabinets of spices and potion ingredients next to a stove in a corner, and her Book of Shadows in another corner. The symbol of the coven was the Triple Crescent, and she'd made silver necklaces for the members.
"Blessed Be," Dawn said, greeting each person who entered the room with a kiss on the cheek.
Demetria and Octavian
Octavian dodged the kiss.
"I'm doing this as a favour to Dem, I still don't like you overly much."
"Do hush, Tavvie." Demetria looked at Dawn. "Blessed be, Dawn."
Dawn
Dawn looked up as a ball of bluish white lights started gleaming around.
"Tara!" she shrieked, and she ran to hug her. Tara had only told her she was their whitelighter a few days ago.
"Um, everybody, this is Tara. She's mine & Dem's whitelighter, a sort of guardian angel of sorts for witches. If you decide to truly be a member of this coven, she will be here to guide and protect us all."
"Hi," Tara said, waving. There was a jingle noise and she looked up. "Darn, the Elders are calling. I shall return," she said, orbing out.
"Okay," Dawn said. "I guess I'll begin with the basics. This is the Book of Shadows. IT has a lot of really old spells, and some that aren't so old, and some that are brand new, that Willow, Tara, and even I have added. If you write a spell, and you think it will be useful in the future, you can add it to the book. Over there is the little kitchenette for making potions. Just, be really careful with anything there, some of the ingredients are volatile." Dawn cringed as she remembered picking exploded mandrake root out of her hair. "ANybody have any questions?"
Octavian and Demetria
"No." Octavian studied his nails. "Sounds simple enough. Don't mess with the Book, and don't play around with the ingredients."
"Quite," Demetria said dryly.
Dawn and Jessica
"I have one," Jess said. "What exactly does it mean to be a witch? It's not a Satan-worshipping and hexing people, is it?"
"Not at all," Dawn said. "We're mainly about peace and light, but we also kick some demon ass. We practice good magick. Evil magick wants to destroy good magick. That includes demons, who want to kill us, warlocks, who want to steal our powers, vampires, who are just evil, except for a few special ones. There's also sorcerers, alchemists, and a lot of other nasties. But, if you study magick hard enough, you'll learn how to protect yourself and how to fight evil. It's also a lot of fun," Dawn said, grinning.
Octavian and Demetria
Octavian and Demetria shared a covert glance.
They still had those Gems...
"Sounds fun. But...if you're only meant to use your powers for good..." Octavian lifted an eyebrow. "How did you manage to get away with some of the things you do? Because obviously, I'm not a force of evil."
Demetria slapped his shoulder.
"Hush, Tavvie!"
"No, I reallly want to hear Dawn's justification." He gave her a regal glare. "I'm sure she can manage to make it sound nice."
Dawn
Dawn grinned. "I'm made from Chaos. I'm not good nor evil, so I can get away with it. We're not the Charmed Ones, I don;t really have to worry about the personal gain consequences. Besides, it helps being on the good side of several dieties."
Octavian and Demetria
"Nyx loves me," Octavian said cheerfully.
"It's true, she loves all the Mavericks." Demetria smiled. "Cos we're so delightfully wicked."
"Not so sure she likes the Summers though."
"Hush, Tav. Dawn's descent in status is no affair of ours. Ignore him, do. I find it usually works."
Dawn
Dawn glared. "Nyx loves me, and so do Priss and Sabre. Willow and Tara basically became my mothers after my mom died. And, of course, Janusz is my true parent, and Dagon sees me as his child as well. Diana dotes on me, probably a little too much, and Hecate finds me amusing. At least, this is what Willow said."
Octavian and Demetria
Octavian whistled slightly, and grinned back.
"Quite. Whatever makes you feel better, Dawn."
Any of his normal endearments were quite lacking.
"Oh! Which does remind me. A girl named Mouse rang the other day, in case we'd heard from Nyx. We got to chatting...you know she's been to Olympus? Not that she sounded overly impressed..." Demetria frowned slightly. "Tavvie, we should try and contact the Roman gods."
"Yes, why not?" Octavian shrugged slightly.
"It might be good to have a wide base of deities to call upon..."
"Varian for instance, is a hybrid. His, her...it's so hard to tell with Varian... T'ien Lung aspect is sacred to the Chinese gods. The guardians of heaven."
Dawn
"Groovy," Dawn said. "But I was just reminded. If we're going to be a coven, we need to not argue, or fight. Any pettiness, and we will break apart. And if we use our powers on each other, we will lose them until we make up. It's a thing that the Elders do to make us all get along."
Octavian and Demetria
"Fine. But can you manage that degree of self control, Dawn?" Octavian asked her. "You seem to so delight in causing other's trouble with your magic..."
"I'm sure we all have at least a little maturity," Demetria demurred, then looked at Octavian. "Except possobly you."
"So amusing, Demetria." Octavian smiled at her. "I have quite a lot of maturity, I'll have you know."
"Where? I can't see it."
"Oh, hush."
Dawn
"Hey, I have no problem putting out differences aside. I'd LIKE to be your friend, Tav," Dawn said quietly, before turning around, not waiting to hear his answer. She walked over to Kitty, Theresa, Jess and Adam, and started teaching them how to create a protective circle, that would keep out all evil.
Demetria and Octavian
Demetria hit him lightly.
"Be nice."
"Darrrling, that was nice."
"You're being a brat."
"And she isn't? Anyway. Let's get started on this magic thing."
The twins made their way over.
Dawn
"OKay. You cut an apple this way, to show the pentacle, and then you lay a laurel leaf, which is the same thing as a bay leaf, over the star, and put the apple together again. This blocks the path of evil," Dawn demonstrated.
Octavian and Demetria
Octavian watched carefully.
"Got it all memorised?" Demetria asked him.
"It's not exactly something I can turn off...so, what's next?"
Dawn and Theresa
Dawn showed them several different herbs, spells and rituals for protection. While she was mixing some stuff in a bowl, she accidentally knocked the bowl onto the floor, making a big mess.
"Ooops, but now I can teach you all, like, the best spell I've ever learned. Willow taught it to me. 'Let the object of objection become but a dream, as I cause the seen to be unseen.'" she recited the vanishing spell and the mess disappeared.
"That was really cool," Theresa said.
Octavian and Demetria
Octavian nodded thoughtfully.
Demetria clapped her hands.
"Oh, this is so exciting!"
Dawn
Dawn grinned. "OKay, now the fun stuff. This is, like, one of the first things I learned how to float a pencil, but we're going to do it with a rose." She directed everyone to sit in a circle andd hold hands. They placed the rose in the center, and concentrated. THe rose levitated, and slowly turned, as each petal dropped off one by one.
"Okay, now, you all know what that felt like, you should practice it by yourself. Once you all get immersed in magick, you'll discover that we can communicate telepathically, as well as becoming somewhat telekinetic."
Octavian adnd Demetria
"NOt that different from my levitation," Demetria whispered to Octavian.
"We learn and then we...use it for our own purposes," Octavian murmured back.
"Wasn't that always the plan? But let us continue." Demetria looked at Dawn. "Is that enough for today?"
